i've still no idea what this entry is oops.

Stop Swimming?

anyway you really should send that song from the guy who sounds like he's a star wars character, I'd be surprised if Stop Swimming is even better than that

I'm a swimming pool? Swim? Oooooh! Fast Lane?

Either way sounds interesting, hyping the hype there Bre :party2:

previous hype abandoned (maybe another day)

LXX for reals is something much more inspired. I'm not even gonna do a teaser for it to keep it a surprise but be prepared for something hauntingly beautiful <3

(okay you do get a teaser in the subtitle but Googling that doesn't even give you the song so it remains shrouded in mystery)

As much as I loved your previous choice, I am pretty hyped for this which sounds like it could be a great winner to see the year out.

Very high expectations to live up to there. Oops. (Kinda my fault for hyping it but w/e). I really have no idea how it will do but it's up there with my favourite entries already so I hope at least a few more will love it too :o Otherwise I am gonna make this my DJ Kent.

Fura chase a full year of final appearances for Persephonia

As briefly announced earlier today before technical difficulties demanded the withdrawal of the semi-finals until further notice, Persephonia's entrant to BJSC LXX in Altyr Muunilinst (and also apparently Aquafina and Elëdan) is the Icelandic/Faroese trio Fura with their debut single 'Demons' which popped up on the Internet in September of last year but has remained under the radar since - until now, as it rises onto the radar of a select number of niche forumers.

Fura is a side project of Hallur Jónsson and Janus Rasmussen from electronic group Bloodgroup, alongside vocalist Björt Sigfinnsdóttir. Rasmussen has previously appeared in BJSC not only with Bloodgroup (who represented Terra Avium earlier this year with the Girl Unit remix of 'Cut Out Your Tongue') but also as one half of BYRTA who, after being rejected by the Persephonian BJSC Committee in favour of compatriots Orphic Oxtra, were entered by Elëdan with the incredible 'Andvekur'. We weren't going to make the same mistake and let him be stolen from us again.

If this track qualifies it'll mark a full year without missing a BJSC final, and match our previous record of 11 consecutive finals reached. Have a listen to 'Demons' below, we hope some of you love it as much as we do. <3

(edit: old video got removed so replaced with a new one - which is actually a music video! woo)

Liking this on first listen, got the same sort of dark atmospherics/soft vocal disparity as Zola Jesus' "Night". I'm not totally sold on the vocals, but it's an interesting track which I'm sure will do decently for you!

Fura qualify to equal Persephonian record

Fura's 'Demons' made it through the semi-final of BJSC LXX, bringing Persephonia into an eleventh consecutive final. This officially matches the record we set between contests XXIII and XXXIII, which included seven auto-qualifiers (the current streak includes only two auto-qualifiers, one of which would almost certainly have legitimately qualified had semi-finals not been cancelled, the other... definitely needed to be an AQ). We hope to set a new record in the first contest of next year but in the mean time celebrations are ongoing for making it a full year without DNQing.

Daehun and N DNTN also stubbornly refused to DNQ again meaning once again our three nations are joint as the countries with the longest active qualification streaks.

Underwhelming finish to the year with Fura

Fura's 'Demons' didn't do as well as we'd have liked in BJSC LXX, finishing an underwhelming 29th out of 31 songs. It avoided being our least successful entry of the year but was our least successful qualifier, in retrospect we were quite lucky to actually make it through the semi-final. Nonetheless the song attracted 14 voters and a total of 64 points, biggest contributions from Espen and Zechonia (8 points from each), Jukianië (7) and Jamvale and N DNTN (6 each).

Onwards and upwards to the year end competitions - or competition singular as we have no song eligible for The Best of the Rejects VII (#sufferingfromsuccess). Our winner 'Cry For Freedom' qualifies automatically for the final of The Best of BJSC VII while we have high hopes that 'EMPIRE' will do well in the contest and 'Serbia', despite 'only' coming 15th, may benefit from TĀLĀ's newfound popularity to potentially give us 3 songs in at least the semi-finals.

Persephonia finish 6th in 2014 year end chart

We are delighted to announce that after a year of tension Perserphonia were securely within the top 10 nations of the year, with our total of 1,076 points combined from our last 10 entries placing us 6th only behind Aeroche, N DNTN, Daehun, FSR Rontvia and Altyr Muunilinst. Some 40% of our points total came from just two songs (which were, adjusting for number of votes, the third and fourth biggest songs of the entire year across all countries, 'EMPIRE' placing 3rd overall despite not even winning its month) but our mostly quite consistent performance otherwise kept us afloat among the bigger guns. We were also very proud to just barely remain ahead of Fljótavík on the ranking.

LXX final results commentary + Persephonia's televote results

This year's winners have been dominated by two things - male artists and first-time winner nations. LXX is no exception providing the 9th and 7th (respectively) of those this year. Republic of Adonia are still a relatively new country, being on their sixth entry, but they seem to have found a nice rhythm with 3 top 10 finishes to date, the latest being their first winner, Josef Salvat's 'Open Season' which took the crown with 203 points.

It fought off heavy competition from perennial favourites Aeroche who returned to contest domination after two relative off months with Henry Saiz' 'All The Evil Of This World' coming runner-up with 188 points. #00274E also marked a bit of a comeback with the Danny L Harle remix of Billon's 'Special' (feat. Maxine Ashley) coming 3rd with 170 points, marking two months in a row with a Harle production in the top 5 and the first top 10 hit for the nation for 9 contests. FSR Rontvia rounded off another successful year with a fourth placer in WALK THE MOON's 'Shut Up + Dance' (163 points) and D'yermak'er provided VÉRITÉ's second top 10 finisher out of two entries, 5th place for 'Weekend' on 161 points. That's three places higher than previous entry 'Strange Enough' which was Umiiruka's only hit this year.

Ajanaeda got off to a shaky start in BJSC with their first three entries failing to qualify but now have a second top 10 out of the three since, Just Kiddin's 'Thinking About It' giving them a new peak of sixth. The rest of the top 10 have got there considerably more than two times: Altyr Muunilinst's home entry 'Sea Of Voices' by Porter Robinson came 7th, Fljótavík came 8th for a second time in a row with Chløë Black's '27 Club', Trifoski were 9th for a THIRD month in a row (also a fifth consecutive top 10) with 'Drone Logic' by Daniel Avery and Daehun rounded off a year of many top 10s with one last one, Amanda Fondell's 'You Got My Life' in 10th.

There were no debuting countries this month for the first time in a while but there was a welcome comeback from Usfland who unceremoniously dropped out of the contest for unexplained reasons at the end of last year. Comeback entry 'Open' by Cyril Hahn feat. Ryan Ashley qualified for the final but didn't make a massive impact, finishing 28th. One other returning nation made the final this month, after taking a one month break Sandénia's latest 'Crocodile Tears' by Grades came 15th.

Danaelanda set a new personal best but remain doomed to apparently never have a BJSC top 10 hit. Shadow Child and Doorly's 'Climbin' (Piano Weapon)' came 11th for the unlucky nation giving them an eighth top 20, seven of which were top 15. Patvia also continued to scale new heights with a new peak of 13th with Lost Frequencies' 'Are You With Me'. Also, not a comeback, but PRoJ finally made it through a semi-final for the first time in 2014 after eight DNQs and their LXIV entry (when all songs automatically qualified) coming near the bottom of the heap. Urban Cone's 'Sadness Disease' saw them see 2014 out on a massive high, finishing 12th.

Jubirdia nations not already mentioned: Skall were 14th with Korallreven's 'Death Is Not For Us'; Séyetana had their first qualifier-but-not-top-10 for over a year coming 19th with Tei Shi's 'Bassically'; Desbuanda's Mirror Talk came 23rd with 'Too Late To Start'; 25th went to Aquafina with Steve Aoki and Afrojack's 'Afroki' (feat. Bonnie McKee).

The wooden spoon went to Zechonia with Arctic Lake's 'How Long Can You Stare', taking in a still respectable 49 points but getting a bit lost in the final.

Persephonian televote results went thusly:

Séyetana had their first qualifier-but-not-top-10 for over a year coming 19th with Tei Shi's 'Bassically'

How fitting that my last entry of that kind also finished 19th. That's some weird year-long symmetry.

Shame Demons finished so low but I guess I didn't really help its cause at all... sorry. :(

Persephonia will be joining the bandwagon and doing a year end chart SOON. I have a list of 150 songs which I may or may not cut down.

The following songs will NOT feature as much as we love them as we don't really associate them with BJSC. Soz.

Altyr Muunilinst // Blonde - I Loved You (feat. Melissa Steel)

Danaelanda // Ferreck Dawn and Redondo - Love Too Deep (Club Edit)

Ethanola // Oliver $ and Jimi Jules - Pushing On

Harmonica // P-Money - Everything (feat. Vince Harder)

Kluminican Republic // Antonio Vivaldi - Winter I. Allegro Non Molto

Ramrynia // Indiana - Solo Dancing

Skall // Todd Terje - Inspector Norse

Terra di Campioni // Grum - Heartbeats

Trifoski // The Magician - Sunlight (feat. Years & Years)

Yehesi // Watermät - Bullit

I toyed with excluding 'Gecko' too but that WAS a discovery and one that I really loved in the contest itself so it has made it.

Let me keep my mouth shut then

I am expecting a number of songs in your countdown Brayden.

Make it happen. :hitler:

:o

I felt like my support for you was a bit one sided for most of this year so I'm pleasantly surprised by having four here ^_^ Hoping for at least top 40 for what I suspect will be the highest of them anyway.

I do hope you actually finish this ( ) as I sense that we'll share a lot of mutual faves.

:o Four entries for Quintessa, although I have a shrewd idea of the four.
