Like with all collaborations, both artists are partly responsible for its success, but I think it might still be #1 on iTunes if there was a different singer other than Rihanna on it.

Rihanna has such a great recording voice, it is so believable and conveys emotion in almost every genre (which is odd because sometimes Rihanna acts like she has zero passion for anything). I mean Monster just wouldn't work with Britney's child like vocals on it ect.

 

This is part of the reason she can work with whoever and it still seem to work. I really cant think of another female artist who could make good credible songs with Eminem, Coldplay, Drake, Jay Z ect.
