I was quite disappointed they used such a mainstream and radio-friendly RATM track when they've got so much anti-establishment stuff in their discography. "Guerilla Radio" anyone?

Are you crazy ?

It's not like you have a clue about anything else they've done, so who knows?

Is Sam Bailey a man or a woman?

A woman

I want the XF winner to miss out this year, preferably to Leona Lewis! But anything other than another XF Christmas #1 please!

What are the odds on James Arthur going for the Christmas number 1?

It would be hilarious if he went to #1 over the X Factor winner. Although there's zero chance of it actually happening.

I'm in agreement with most people on here, the X Factor winner's single will be this year's Christmas Number 1, although I think Katy Perry could also put up a good fight. No one seems to have mentioned Lily Allen yet but I think that has an outside chance of making the Christmas Top 3.

Mainstream / radio friendly music is Britney Spears, Lady Gaga, Elton John or something like U2, Queen, Oasis. Rage Against The Machine is very far from it. Maybe "Killing In The Name" was the least mainstream top 40 single in last 15 years.

Lily Allen covers Keane in Xmas John Lewis ad

Source: MW

After weeks of rumours, the John Lewis 2013 Christmas ad is today revealed. Its musical centrepiece is Lily Allen covering Keane's Somewhere Only We Know.

The animated ad is based on a short story about the spirit of Christmas dubbed 'The Bear And The Hare', and has been put together by agency Adam&Eve/DDB. You can watch it below.

Somewhere Only We Know is published by Universal Music Publishing, while Lily Allen's label is the now-Warner-owned Parlophone. Her management is handled by Rocket Management. All sides are understood to have been integral in closing the deal with John Lewis. Annie Lennox is also believed to have been in the running to record the ad's soundtrack.

The new John Lewis campaign is reported to have a whopping £7m marketing fund behind it. Such heavy Q4 TV exposure would be perfect timing for the BRIT Award-winning Allen, whose third studio album is due to be released in the new year.

The ad will be shown during the break of this Saturday's X Factor on ITV1.

The magic formula of a young act covering a classic song has been evident in the last four above-the-line John Lewis TV ad campaigns - all of which are known in trade sync circles for setting in motion the "John Lewis effect" of accelerated sales and exposure.

Recent examples have included, Ellie Goulding covering Elton John classic Your Song, taking her new version of the song to the top of the iTunes chart, and Gabrielle Aplin's cover of Frankie Goes To Hollywood's Power Of Love - which went on to become an Official UK No.1 single.

So this will be on itunes on saturday night/Sunday morning. Looking forward to seeing how well it goes, its like a xmas tradition now. Guuted Annie Lennox didnt get it!!

Queen Perry will have this year's 'Paradise'/'What's My Name' with 'Unconditionally'.

Unfortunately, The X Factor dross will be #1. I would be very surprised if any of these contenders makes the top 10 at all (possibly The Big Reunion at a push).

The top ten will probably be littered with tracks from The X Factor final.

I think Katy Perry could have the first #1 of 2014 when the single sales are a bit on the low side, in recent years acts have climbed to #1 Coldplay, will.i.am & Britney in the new year.

Except they will be huge Paradise sold 105k the week it was no1!

As far as rock singles go, I'd say that 'Killing In The Name' is quite radio friendly. It has a catchy guitar riff and is very singalong. Although, in terms of an 'anti X Factor track', I'd say it was the perfect choice not only for that reason, but also because of the obvious message in the song!

How about a XMAS song at no.1 this year, if so would be the first time in about 10 years..
I don't think an ACTUAL Christmas song has been #1 since like 1985?

I consider Mad World to be an xmas classic even if its not about xmas. Same with Stay Another Day.

I dont mind about the number 1 as long as we have a few new xmas songs being play/in the top 40 - like the Killers new xmas song (1/12 is a Sunday this year so it could help them go top 40 for once. Also we have Kelly & Leona (who could have XF performances). Maybe one or two more??

This will be the first year since then thanks to Leona, saviour of Christmas songs at Christmas #1!

Relative to the rest of their back catalogue it's quite catchy.

The progress of 'Unconditionally' so far doesn't suggest to me it's going to be a huge hit... it's already getting at least some airplay (heard it on Capital the other day) but it's nowhere near the top 40 at the moment.
