This is definitely one of the most beautiful songs that Emeli has sung - a cover of Nina Simone's 'I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel to Be Free'. She performed this on her Our Version of Events tour in 2012, and it starts off as a slow piano song before it gradually climbs into such a fun-filled wonderful jive! She definitely has done Nina Simone proud with that cover, because it's just amazing on so many levels. She sings it so genuinely as well, argh, just STUNNING. I think this was the one that surprised me / elated me more than any other songs on the night I saw her (although EVERY song she sung moved me / made me feel happy inside). Anyway, she also recorded an iTunes Session version of the song and it is stunning. So, so good. If you haven't heard yet, I definitely recommend you listen! (feels like an X Factor contestant advertising their videos on YouTube, but if you want to check it out, just CLICK BELOW).

The Vamps are up next with the début single 'Can We Dance' from their as-of-yet untitled début album, coming next year (yahoo!). It's been a long time coming for the boys, but it finally dropped earlier in the year and it is fantastic. Even if I slightly prefer the second single 'Wild Heart' to this now, it's still a fantastic pop song and I'm SO glad that it managed to get as high as it did officially; great start from the boys. Looking forward to seeing what they do with the début album, and hopefully there aren't too many covers on it (if they're going to include any), considering there are some on the EP's they've released so far, lmao. But yeah, such a great discovery from late 2012 / this year, and 2014 is going to be *BIG* for them (already covered).

Union J - Carry You

Union J start off the top five for us, my lovely boys (apart from the Emeli Sandé lookalike in Jaymi. Who even is he? Never heard of him). This is their début single 'Carry You', and their highest charting and highest ranking single both in my chart and here respectively. This was such a good kick-start for the boys, and although it wasn't exactly a smash hit it still did quite well officially to keep them relevant following their earlier-than-should-have-been departure from The X Factor. It serves as a great opening song for their self-titled début album, and I really can't wait for more songs like this to come (there are some on the album though such as 'Save the Last Dance').

Carry You is probably my fave Union J song. I do really like it but kinda expected better.

We're edging ever closer to finding out what the best song of the year is, and just (SADLY) missing out on a spot in the top three are the lovely One Direction boys with the first single from their third album 'Midnight Memories', 'Best Song Ever'. An absolutely amazing song, one that will probably stand the test of time and go down as one of their best, if not THE best, for me. The video is fantastic too, the shirtlessness on the cards, Harry's cuteness, Zayn just being... FABULOUSLY ZAYN (I mean, the amount of beautiful GIFs that have surfaced from the video is just unbelievable. He's perfection). I've basically had this on repeat for a while as well, and it's definitely the one that I revisit the most from this album (although it is filled with LOTS of gems, where Zayn sings a rather lot *.*). [Oh and I see you SEXY Harry in the cap from the video below. Take that shirt off while you're there (and your trousers / boxers if you want x) (Zayn first tho)]

Only two songs remain now as Jennifer Lopez and Pitbull drop out with THE collaboration of the summer (well, before another song came along anyway). 'Live It Up' basically defines the summer. Great track that you can just get up and do shizzle your shit to and just have a bloody great time! Encouraged me to listen to more of J-Lo as well, and her discography is incredible! A lot of her other music is fab, and I rediscovered 'Waiting For Tonight' which is an absolute jem! So thank you very much for releasing this Jennifer. While you're at it, get a move on with releasing your next album, thanks. (definitely looking forward to that, needs to SMASH x)

Well hasn't this been an eventful countdown... Joseph didn't leave much to the imagination by revealing that the top 2 was indeed 'Boomerang' by Nicole Scherzinger and 'Lifted' by both Naughty Boy and Emeli Sandé - but a little bit of teasing kept him wondering (I hope, I hope, I hope, I hope, I hope, I hope, I hope) what one was actually going to come out on top (even though everybody KNOWS that nobody would top Queen Emeli Sandé here). Regardless, both of these songs come from absolute QUEENS (sorry Naughty Boy, but you're ruled out on medical grounds). 'Lifted' is by far and away the track that defines the year for me. Such a brilliant song, Emeli sounds perfect in every note she sings, the production from Naughty Boy is spotless and the whole song just fills me with joy. One I always return to, and the message is so so strong. Can really take it any way you want to, but I know what it means to me personally.
Queen Scherzinger, I certainly was NOT a fan of from August 2012 onwards, but since then she went on to give us this beauty and boy how I have fallen in love with her. Forgive and forget and all that, I mean, it wasn't her fault the producers told her not to put Jake through, but oh well. She got the brunt of it. 'Boomerang' is SUCH a tune. People say it's cheap, tacky, generic, etc. f*** y'all. Amazingness in its true form. Let's hope we get the album from her next year and it includes more of the same (although there's talks of an Adele style album... We can live in hope that this has not just been scrapped and will be billed as a non-album single </3)
