Predictable #1 artist but she has some fantastic material. People should have a listen to her lesser-known stuff since the ones that continually receive boosts are not her best: 'Clown' is boring and 'Read All About It (Part III)' has been destroyed by talent shows. Her involvement on Naughty Boy's album was great!

Let us now take a moment away from the music side of things and avert our attention to some of the best television that has graced our screens in 2013 (totally did inherit this idea from John at all, but nonetheless it's a good idea) [and I'm not that big a film buff so OFF with that]. I fear next to nobody is going to a) have heard of or b) like over 50% of what I deem to be the eight best television shows of the year (some may be filler, some may not be filler; work that one out for yourselves). Before we proceed in this excellent voyage through time and space (hint? :o) though, let's take a moment to once more appreciate George Shelley's fabulosity (is that a word? it is now)...

Time up. Anyway, ahoy with the countdown (starting v soon). I really do know that there are FAR more than eight good television shows from this year; but these are the ones that have interested me the most, and that have *really* grabbed my attention (there are also a fair few one-off dramas or series' that have caught my attention and that I have deemed absolutely beautiful; but I can't for the LIFE of me remember, so make do pls). Joseph will probably know of at least two that will be appearing. Jáhq will probably know for certain one. What could they possibly be?

Atlantis

It was always obvious this was going to turn out to be 'Merlin' but just with a different setting, different characters, different nemeses and what have you; but it's actually turned out to be so unique (in terms of the comparisons that are being drawn between the two shows). It's not the *best* fantasy drama the BBC has produced, and it's certainly not topped 'Merlin' yet, but it's on its way if it keeps going as it is! The thing (or person, rather) that lured me into watching this is Sarah Parish. She is an absolute gem of an actress, and I've caught up with a lot of her work since recognising her from both 'Doctor Who' where she appeared as the Empress of the Racnoss and 'Mistresses' where she played one of four devious women named Katie (they weren't all called Katie). She is so good at playing villains (see also 'Merlin' where she appeared as an evil Queen who was also a troll and wanted to take over Camelot by bringing about the demise of King Uther). I don't know what it is about her, but she's just FABULOUS. She definitely appears to be a much stronger and much more prominent character than some of the leading cast, such as Jack Donnelly who, while he is fantastic, seems to have his good days and bad days. Some of the time the only thing that keeps me watching him is when we get the 'here it comes' (naughty!) moment in each episode where he reveals what is hiding underneath his clothing (a very healthy and sexy body, if I say so). The show definitely has a lot of potential and it can go in so many directions from here. I've yet to finish catching up with all of the episodes that have aired, but what has been already is certainly worth checking out if you haven't already.

Big Brother USA

Can't quite remember if it was Joseph or Jáhq who told me to check this out (feel free to chip in one of you!), but one of them did anyway. And so I watched it. I wasn't overly keen on it to begin with because the format was so drastically different to the UK version that I have loved for many years, but when it really got into it I started to love all of the housemates and love the format and the way that they did things as much as I do BB UK. The tasks are far more brutal on this show, far more about actually testing the stamina, endurance, memory (among others) of the housemates rather than just silly mind games with those in the English house. Elissa Slater was the one who kept me watching the show because she was SUCH a character - gave the show the life and soul that it needed. Since watching (and completing) the fifteenth season of the show, I went back to watch the thirteenth series and I'm still not finished that (despite starting MONTHS ago) - but I'll try and get it done soon; and then I'll hopefully revisit some more seasons before we kick off with the sixteenth season in the Summer of next year. Definitely worth giving a go even if you're a die-hard fan of the UK show; but it seems much more laxed in the sense that anything goes so beware.

Shameless

'Shameless' unfortunately bowed out (but with a bang!) on 28 May this year, airing its final ever episode as the show concluded its eleventh series. I will admit it was a very sad day. Something I had grown up with; something that I had discovered because I just went into HMV (what was it called all those years ago? making myself sound old, lol ~) and picked up the DVD and told my mum that it was the one I was buying - was going off the screens for good, and we were about to lose some of the most wonderful characters British television has created! Not only does the series feature one of the best British actresses Anne-Marie Duff, but it also features a whole host of fit actors such as Elliott Tittensor and... well... actually... that's about it. I'm sure Bal will agree with me when I say 'OOFT'. The show was given such a beautiful ending where it repeated the scene that we had been treated to during the title sequence of the first three series' as its last. 'THEY KNOW HOW TO FUCKING PARTAYYY' - Frank shouts, fag in the mouth, pint in the hand. The show itself kind of wore a bit thin from series 9 to 11, but it did pick up in its final episodes, even if what ruined the show was the growing and continual focus on the Maguire family when this show WAS and IS about the Gallagher family. But, nothing we can do about it now. Even if it's long buried now, I strongly recommend you check it out if you haven't already, because it is simply one of the finest comedies and one of the finest dramas and one of the finest porn advertisements and one of the finest drugs advertisements in the history of UK television.

Waterloo Road

Any other day and this probably would have been #1 for me, no doubt about it. But, the quality of the episodes that have aired this year have not only been abysmal in comparison to previous series' episodes, but also appear not to be touching on the story they actually want to touch on; and instead just brushing over them as if they have little importance stood next to the characters they are trying so desperately to make work when they just don't. Obviously that can't be said for everybody. There are four characters I can think of off the top of my head who work in the current series and who drive it to be as good as it can be, and they are: Christine (Laurie Brett), Kevin (Tommy Knight), Dynasty (Abby Mavers) and Lula (Marlene Madenge). All four of them have had an 'arc' surrounding them in either the current series or series 8 - the former of which is ongoing. It's stories like Christine's alcoholism that have made the show worth watching for the past year and a bit since it moved to Scotland, and stories like Lula's campaign against Nox Pharmaceuticals, and the on-off-on-off-on-off relationship between Kevin and Dynasty (who happen to be the best couple the show have had in its history). Sometimes it's let down by poor acting, sometimes it's let down by poor stories. But sometimes they manage to pull things off in the best way - as was proved in 9.10, the final episode that aired this year. It saw the show go in a different direction and leaves lots of potentialities for the next block of episodes, so here's to them! Not long to wait now.

Doctor Who

OK, so I don't particularly know myself why this is only at #4 when technically it should be at #1. The three that are to follow are all three TV shows that are highlights of my year though, so don't be too harsh, m'kay. The second part of the seventh series aired on our screens this year, with us finally discovering what Clara Oswald's mystery was. And I, for one, thought it was absolutely fantastic (that's probably partly down to Jenna Coleman being a) the best actress they've secured as a companion in a long while and b) Clara being my favourite companion/actress on the show by a country mile (at the moment, anyway! - I said that about Karen Gillan and went off her; but I'm sure the same won't happen here x). So, what were the highlights of Series 7 Part 2? Well... 'The Bells of Saint John', 'The Rings of Akhaten' (which receives FAR too much shade for my liking), 'Hide', 'Journey to the Centre of the TARDIS', 'The Crimson Horror' and 'The Name of the Doctor'. I've only missed off 'Cold War' (which is a disaster - so what if the Ice Warriors are there? Seeing them back after such a long rest is one thing, but you've got to at least give them a good story, gawd!) and 'Nightmare in Silver' which, on repeated views, is rather pathetic and could have easily been broadcast on CBBC at 5pm (spoilers?!). Then of course we had the big 50th Anniversary Special, 'The Day of the Doctor' which exceed any and ALL expectations I had because it was just mindblowingly fantastic. Such an epic moment for the history of Doctor Who and an episode I'm sure I can see myself watching again and again and again and again. Such goodness - oh and not forgetting 'An Adventure in Space and Time' too. That was fabulous, especially with Jessica Raine on the cast-list.

Devious Maids

'Desperate Housewives' meets '90210' in another extremely fabulous invention from Marc Cherry - basically the former show but with a little bit of role-reversal in terms of who the stories focus on. Different to 'Desperate Housewives', here we see the story focus on the life of maids working in some of the grandest homes in Beverley Hills (as opposed to us delving deep into the lives of the Wisteria Lane residents' lives). I suppose this is also different to 'Desperate Housewives' in the sense that it seems to want to target a younger audience than it did its predecessor with recurring storylines like the blossoming romance between Valentina and Remi (which seemed to progress rather quickly; the writers seemed to forget that Remi had friends standing in the way of him and Valentina getting together for the sake of actually having them... get together, which was obviously their objective from the off). The main themes of the series though were absolutely fantastic and they played out so well. There's characters that you just love to hate, and characters you LOVE to love. They're all so good at doing what they do, and that's what makes the show work as well as it does, so it's not surprising it's bagged a second season that airs in April next year (woo!). The conclusion to the first season's main arc regarding who murdered Flora, however, while it was played out well, seemed a bit underwhelming considering that they didn't just subtly tease who the eventual killer was... They more or less told us four episodes before we found out who it was and we were left with what seemed like filler material. But the way that they had Adrian and Evelyn throw him out, falling into the pool repeating the first moments of the first episode was MAGICAL. Definitely worth checking out if a) you liked 'Desperate Housewives', b) if you LOVE a bit of ~drama~ and ~comedy~ or c) if you're bored.

Wolfblood

I didn't even know this existed just over two months ago, but then my friend told me to watch it because it was quite similar to other CBBC dramas, and my god. It is amazing. I haven't stopped loving the characters since watching it, and I've been fortunate enough to have one of them follow me on Twitter (the lovely Kara - one of the three K's, woo!). The story surrounds Wolfbloods (wolves hiding in human form) trying to protect themselves by hiding the fact that they are indeed what they are and along the way there are so many close encounters. It has an ensemble cast, and the main character Maddy Smith is played by the absolutely FANTASTIC Aimee Kelly (who has also appeared in 'Sket' (a feature film) and has just finished filming for an episode of 'Call the Midwife'). The stories can seem quite filler at time, but of course it is a CBBC drama and they'll have to accommodate for the younger viewers among us, but then there are those stories where they really do hit the nail on the head, such as the series 2 finale that just aired this October where it saw Maddy and her parents having to leave Stoneybridge because the secret was OUT - a University Doctor had got hold of her dad's DNA and was going to expose them for what they were. That, and the fact that one of Maddy's classmates found their basement where they went at full moons. It was a rather emotional series finale. And it finally saw the deal sealed between Maddy and Rhydian (her love interest/friend) after TWO series of teasing us and constantly having them at each others' throats and just... not getting into the relationship. But the kiss on the moors. *.* I'm interested to see what's going to happen with series 3 now, because it could literally go in any direction. Could we have a split setting seeing Shannon, Tom, Jimi, Kay, Katrina, Kara and co. at the school while Maddy and her parents fend for themselves as a part of Jana's pack in the wild, or will they return? Only Debbie Moon knows. Aimee Kelly is probably one of the most BEAUTIFUL unrecognised young talents in the UK too. Hopefully this helps her to make a name for herself in the industry because it really would be great to see her in other roles; and I'm just sitting nervously waiting for the DVD of this now. Definitely grateful to my friend for getting me to watch this, such FABULOUSNESS and a CBBC drama where they actually treat the audience with respect.

Wizards vs Aliens

Words do not explain, really, how much this show has developed and excelled in just one year. Series 1 was REALLY strong, but it seems the writers really know what direction they want to take this show in and it does show in both the scripts, production and such in the second series, airing on CBBC at the moment. The show surrounds a wizard named Tom Clarke, his scientist/geek (un-enchanted) friend Benny, his grandmother Ursula from the magical line of Crowe and his father (also an un-enchanted) Michael defeating the Nekross (an alien race who feed on the magic of wizards on earth) episode after episode... until lately. Series 2 has really tested the emotional side of the characters to the maximum, especially those of Tom and Lexi (the daughter of the Nekross King). In the first series, Lexi came to earth and lived as a human to try and capture Tom and extract his magic, but it didn't pay off as a woman named Stephanie Gaunt wanted to steal both of them because she had found not just an alien, but a wizard in Tom that she could expose. As Lexi was forced to live as a human she and Tom had to team up to try and escape the mad woman, forming an alliance. The pair of them grew close but that relationship was torn apart as soon as Lexi was able to return to the spaceship and continue plans to feed on the magic that the wizards of earth had to offer. However, in the second series of the show, in episodes that have just aired, we saw Lexi once again returning to earth, this time in her true Nekross form. She was on a mission from her father, to find her brother Varg, but the moment that she and Tom took the lift to the thirteenth floor, they found themselves in the Neverside - the home of all magic, but it had drastic consequences for the pair of them. Lexi was forced to become human once again, and she could not revert to Nekross form.
She and Tom lived there for twenty years together where time went faster than on earth. They had a child together and named him Benny Junior. When Benny and Ursula found them and managed to transport them back to normal time, Benny Junior was lost and the EMOTION poured into the scenes by both Scott Haran and Gwendoline Christie was absolutely beautiful to watch. The moment of sheer silence when the pair of them realised that Benny Junior was gone, and that the pair of them shared twenty years of their lives with one another was just stunning drama. Absolutely stunning, it nearly reduced me to tears. I honestly can't explain how fantastic it was to watch, and how testing it was for the viewer. In the most recent episodes to have aired, we see Tom and Lexi having nightmares/dreams about what happened in the Neverside and about the son that they lost (they would forget when they left the Neverside and it would seem a dream to them), but they were forced to remember what happened as a bargain to end what would become a war between both wizards and Nekross (to be seen in the series finale on Monday!). When the pair of them remembered it was yet another stunning moment in television.
Not many dramas make me cry, but this DID. The story is just AMAZING in every sense and I commend the writers! Not only are the stories touching, but the cast are as well. Scott Haran, much like Aimee Kelly, is probably one of the most gorgeous unrecognised talents in the UK, and really deserves more work! On top of that, he's such a hottie and would be better off wearing NO shirt in every episode as opposed to wearing ones where we can actually tell the exact outline of his muscles (likewise with his school friend Quinn). This really is one drama that I never expected to be my favourite of 2013, but I can't deny that it is. Such brilliance, and I can't wait to see what they have to offer with the third series in 2014, and whether the Nekross will return.

In the event that any songs are not to your taste, Zayn Malik and George Shelley both ask that you remove yourself from the thread. The songs in this countdown (for the most part) are all 2013 releases, but some may be from previous years that I've only just discovered this year (in fact, there might only be one or two but we'll find out along the way). Any songs that entered the Sandénian charts in week 070 will not be counted but may or may not feature in EOY14. Before we actually get started though, George Shelley would like to be beautiful for a moment, and hope that Union J have done well.

141. will.i.am - #thatPOWER (feat. Justin Bieber) - 5-5-9-14-21-30-41 [7 weeks]

So at the very bottom of the top 150 is Justin Timberlake with one of many (boring) singles from 'The 20/20 Experience', 'Mirrors'. It's a great song, but by Christ does the 6-or-so minute version DRAG. The chorus is very fabulous though and it makes up for all of the driftwood on the album (although 'Don't Hold the Wall' is excellent!). One of Justin Bieber's Music Mondays singles 'Hold Tight' manages to make it in here as well. It's one of my favourites looking back on all we've had so far, and it's to the standard of what should be on the album, unlike some of the others. Gabz of 'Britain's Got Talent' fame manages to sneak into the lower region of the countdown as well. 'Lighters (The One)' really should be a hated worldwide hit, but it's really anthemic and just has something about it that makes you want to listen again and again! 'One in A Million' by Dunan Bannatyne's band ReConnected is quite hilarious looking back now, but the boys are hot and who can deny a cheesy pop song its right to be here? District3, who have now disbanded since releasing their first EP post-X Factor, come in at #146 with 'Let's Reload', a track from the aforementioned self-titled EP. It really is a great song, so it's a shame we're not going to be hearing any more of the like in the future.

Jason Derulo's second single from 'Tattoos', 'Talk Dirty' is a song that I love, but I don't know why I love it. It's got the catchy chorus, and obviously the fact that he's shirtless in barrels in the video helps a fair bit, but it's probably 2 CHAIIIIIIIIIIIINZ that ruins it for me. Danny Saucedo manages to get in here with his single 'Todo El Mundo (Dancing in the Streets)' which is honestly really amazing! It came from nowhere for me, but I just loved it. X Factor USA alumni Fifth Harmony are in here with a single of theirs, 'Miss Movin' On' which is a great, fun song! Neon Jungle, another girl group, just edge ahead with their début single 'Trouble'! And finally, it's a belter of a song - '#thatPOWER' by will.i.am and Justin Bieber. One of the songs of the year I think (well duh, it's in here!)! One of will's best!

Calum. Really. #4? :(

So kicking off this next part of the countdown at #140 is Taylor Henderson with his début single, 'Borrow My Heart'. He featured on this year's edition of The X Factor Australia and finished in a respectable second place, but he was also a finalist in the fourth series of Australia's Got Talent. It's a great little single, and I'd go back and listen to it a fair few times! Birdy's here (tweet tweet x) with a single of hers, 'Wings'. It's an absolute gem of a song and one you can just imagine her belting out note for not live, and it'd probably be good for le dramatic use in talent shows that rely on it, aka. The X Factor UK. Speaking of The X Factor, somebody who performed this song excellently on there (with the studio version sounding just as good!) it's Cher with the second single from her new album, 'I Hope You Find It'. The first single from the re-release of Lawson's début album 'Chapman Square', 'Brokenhearted' (feat. B.o.B) is here as well. Still not OVERLY massive on this song, but it is great! Had a bit of a love/hate relationship with it when it did chart. And finally in the bottom half of this section is Lana Del Rey with 'Young & Beautiful' - such a depressing yet so very beautiful ballad!

OK, so just falling short (A BIT) of the top 100 is HRH Emeli Sandé with her feature on the 2013 film, 'The Great Gatsby', a cover of Beyoncé's 'Crazy in Love' featuring the Brian Ferry Orchestra. I wasn't massive on this when I first heard it, but by god it's miles better than the original! The Wanted are up next with one of many, many singles that were released before the eventual one of 'Word of Mouth' - their third studio album. 'We Own the Night' is one that certainly took its time to grow on me, but I can say that I do love it now! Probably one of their best, but not the best single on this album! Macklemore and Ryan Lewis with 'Same Love' hurr, getting the message out for us homosexual/bisexual people. Absolutely stunning song! '22' by Taylor Swift got REALLY irritating after a few listens, but now I love it again because I've not really heard it that much! Overplay seemed to kill it on the radio as well. And finally, Gabrielle (or Godbrielle) Aplin comes in with the song that she recorded specially for the final series of Channel 4 drama 'Skins' - 'Start Again'. It's a beautiful song, just like most of her others, and is a bit under-appreciated.

Same Love, 22 and We Own The Night are the only ones I REALLY like there. Wings is nice enough, and Brokenhearted too. The Gabrielle song is quite boring I'm afraid. :(
'Young and Beautiful' and 'Crazy in Love' are two of the many gems on The Great Gatsby OST; can't believe the latter did so much better on my chart than it did on yours! :o 'I Hope You Find It' is possibly my favourite single of the year. However, when I get round to doing my personal end of year chart, it will be based on a point system so unfortunately it will be lower than expected. 'Wings' is also excellent.

Emeli Sandé makes another appearance and this time it's with the absolutely beautiful live Royal Albert Hall version of the fifth single from her début album 'Our Version of Events', 'Clown'. The piano ballad is so beautiful, and it works perfectly in the segment it's in! Just above that is Ellie Goulding's 'Burn' - a song that kind of wore a bit thin with me for a while, but it's at least bearable now. Not her best single, but by no means her worst at all. James Arthur's third single 'Recovery' is in at #128, such a fabulous song that I didn't really pay much attention to until his AMAZING X Factor performance. Really made me appreciate the song, so hopefully it does well as a single! 'R U Crazy' comes in next and it's such a hilarious (but good!) song. The message is quite clear, and I'd love to find out the identity of this girl he's singing to/about. And finally in this section, X Factor alumni and drug addict (he's clean now tho!!1!) Frankie Cocozza with a song from his second EP, 'Embrace', of the same title. A very nice song, and it's one that he should be making replicas of if he is to attempt an album in the future!

Kylie Minogue's buzz single 'Skirt' is outside of the top 100, WHAT? Criminal behaviour from a loon. It did what it needed to do though, and it spent three weeks at the same position for some time in the Sandénian charts, but then it kind of went off in a tangent. Iggy Azalea's very ANNOYING, but GOOD, but SHIT, but OK single 'Change Your Life' is next. Exactly what I just described; it annoys me at times but at other times it's fab! The chorus gets stuck in my head a fair bit too, so curse you Iggy! 'Venus' was a song I wasn't that keen on to begin with because the 'ARTPOP' era from Gaga was sounding embarrassingly terrible going by 'Applause', but allowing this song time to grow definitely worked! Probably one of my favourites from the era now, and some of the lyrics are amazing! Up next is the FLOP single from The Saturdays... 'Gentleman'. Not only is the song cheap but the video is even worse. No other comments to make. AND FINALLY... I fear Joseph is about to take me to task. Mariah Carey *insert Mariah* up next with the sensational '#Beautiful'... Didn't expect to like this as much as I do, but it really is amazing!
