I instantly fell in love with it when I first heard it a decade ago too. The piano opening really resonates with me.

7. Sk8er Boi

Avril's 2nd single Sk8er Boi is next to drop out, making it to a respectable #7. Probably higher than I'd have placed it, as much as I like it I don't quite LOVE it. It made it to #8 in the UK singles chart, lower than I thought actually as I'd say it's still quite remembered these days when people think of Avril (not that they have any reason to, her new music's hardly made any kind of impression :( ).

I think this song flopping is quite possibly the biggest crime of the decade at LEAST. Can't believe it didn't even make the top 40 here. A classic Avril song, Rock N Roll also had a pretty iconic video to boot, shame radios wouldn't touch it with a bargepole so it only entered at #68 here, and at #91 in America, her lowest charting single there since Hot. Amazing song, however, one of her best and well deserving of a spot in the top 10.

That's definitely my #1, and it was my favourite song of last year too. :wub: ANTHEM.

Ah, Rock and Roll is, for me better than most of the songs in the top 5. Of the remaining songs, I'd put My Happy Ending at #1!

It seems very strange to me seeing 'Nobody's Home' in the Top 5 with those track, when Avriconic tracks like 'Girlfriend' and 'Sk8er Boi' have already passed. :o

 

Routing for a 'Complicated' win, though would be happy with 'When You're Gone' or 'My Happy Ending' also!

Avril's very first single manages to safely make the top 5, with pretty good scores from almost everyone. Jake and Silver Rocket were in fact the only people to give a score of less than 6.5. The song was of course a massive hit, winning 13 of the 16 awards it has been nominated for over the years. It was very successful but not as successful as Wikipedia's making it out to be. ^_^

Old school Avril <3 So many good memories! I've got her second album on cassette somewhere as well. Can sell it in 40 years when she releases her next album which will surprisingly become a huge hit. ;D

Hate 'Complicated' so much, thankfully the rest of that era was quality.

The third single from Under My Skin is out in third, leaving My Happy Ending as the final song remaining from that album. The song was a moderate hit, making it to #24 in the UK and #41 in America, so a smash hit in comparison to Rock N Roll. :lol: Lovely song, definitely deserves to be up here as one of her best.

I was instantly drawn to Nobody's Home when I first bought the Under My Skin album. It hasn't aged that well for me, but it's among her best, all the same.

Only just inching ahead is the gorgeous When You're Gone, my personal favourite Avril single. The song was not originally intended to be a love song, Avril said, but as she continued writing it, t brought out "all that emotional stuff" inside her. The song peaked at #3 in the UK, making it her joint 2nd highest peaker (tied with Complicated, behind Girlfriend). One of my all-time favourites, so happy to see it up this high. :wub:
