December 24, 201311 yr Author I have no idea why I love it so much myself to be honest, but I do :lol: 20 Olly Murs - Dear Darlin' UK peak: #5 My peak: #3 My husband of course has to make the chart, but what a flop stan I am with his highest entry only being #20 :( Complete with sexy video, the third single from his third album was a very sizeable hit for him in the Uk and in my chart, topping preceding single Army of Two in both. It's less summery and cheerful than many of his singles, but is nonetheless one of his very best! 19 Jessica Mauboy - To The End Of The Earth UK peak: DNC (#21 in Australia) My peak: #8 The first of Jessica's two entries in the top 20 is the first single from her Beautiful album, which peaked at a bit of a lacklustre #21 prior to the second single and album's release :( But I loved it regardless, with a bit more of a dancey direction than her R&B/pop focused second album it should have really smashed. Fun fact, this is the highest song on this countdown to not make my personal chart top 5 at any point! 18 Dami Im - Alive UK peak: DNC (#1 in Australia) My peak: #1 (1 week) Missing out of coming top of the Australians by just a few places is the victory song by the incredible X-Factor Australia winner of 2013! Like the stomper that was What You've Done To Me by last winner Samantha Jade, but unlike our Sam Bailey's Skyscraper (-_-), Alive is a soaring, well written original song. Not exactly a club banger but not a ballad, very quirky but strong to suit Dami. 17 Lana Del Rey - Summertime Sadness UK peak: #4 (Cedric Gervais Remix) My peak: #5 Gaining a second year end top 20 hit in as many years, partially due to massive exposure of the Cedric Gervais remix, Lana continues the top 20. Although I much prefer the majestic original (forever my fave Lana song), the remix is pretty damn good too. And anything that gets Lana a hit is fine by me... 16 Lady Gaga - Applause UK peak: #5 My peak: #1 (1 week) A R T P O P. As much as this disappointed many fans, I grew to adore this. Perhaps not a great choice of lead single, but it did well enough and didn't really lie about what was in store for the album. The chorus is just massive (I don't get the 'limp' criticism), the energy is great and I just love it! One of the highlights of a great album, although it shouldn't have been a single really, at least not the lead.
December 24, 201311 yr Author 15 Janet Leon - Heartstrings UK peak: DNC (#30 in Sweden) My peak: #1 (2 weeks) Finishing ~30 places clear of anything else affiliated with Eurovision 2013 to be top of the season is Sweden's Janet Leon. Not it was even an actual entry (something I still haven't forgiven Sweden for)... Coming FIFTH in its (decidedly awful) heat at Melodifestivalen behind songs I can't even remember exactly but I know were mostly, if not entirely, utter shit is still baffling. It will be hard to top this soaring dub step tinged string utilising piece of Scandiperfection, but Janet is returning with a vengeance this year for her Euphoria moment (one can dream) however, watch this space. 14 Ellie Goulding - Burn UK peak: #1 My peak: #5 Mirroring her position in the official Uk year end chart, Ellie manages to grab the highest entry by a solo UK female here! Despite 'only' peaking at #5 for me, Burn had a very lengthy top 10 run and has become one of my favourite tracks by Ellie. Despite being seen by some as her 'selling out', I think this is still distinctly Ellie and I personally love it! Oops at it being a Leona cast off though :lol: 13 Jessica Mauboy - Pop A Bottle (Fill Me Up) UK peak: DNC (#2 in Australia) My peak: #1 (1 week) Queen of the Australians for 2013 is of course Jessica Mauboy! The highest of her 3 entries this year, Pop A Bottle is an amazing, summery, catchy and fun track, and instantly became one of her best tracks to date. As a huge hit for her Down Under, this launched the album with a bang and gave her a first of 3 #1s from the album in my chart, preceding the album track Kick Up Your Heels (a Pitbull collab) and the third single Beautiful. 12 Kelly Clarkson - Tie It Up UK peak: DNC (#112 in the US) My peak: #1 (2 weeks) Queen Kelly's first proper country single impressed enough with its cute ode to her husband to top my chart for two weeks, but not enough to make my top 10 of 2013! It didn't much impress commercial audiences either, failing to make the Hot 100 and only peaking at #33 on country radio too :( Nevertheless, Kelly's voice lends itself amazingly to country, and I have unbelievable amounts of anticipation for her country EP/album/whatever it ends up being. 11 Rihanna ft. Mikky Ekko - Stay UK peak: #4 My peak: #3 Just missing the top 10 is a gorgeous ballad from Bajan babe Rihanna, with a little help from Mikky Ekko. The second single from her Unapologetic album, and the last to make much of an impact chartwise, this gave Rihanna an umpteenth top 5 hit in the Uk and made the top 3 for me too, and has become a 'shoulda been #1'. So that leaves ten songs to be revealed - predictions? :D

December 26, 201311 yr Author 10 Selena Gomez - Come & Get It UK peak: #8 My peak: #1 (1 week) Probably not a fave for a lot of you, but I love a bit of Selena <3 The first, but the last, ex Disney star in the top 10 broke away from 'The Scene' with a sexier image and a new sound, with this Indian infused worldbeat track being not too far from something that Rihanna or Shakira might release. Her second UK top 10 hit and her third Liam #1, three years after Naturally and two after Love You Like A Love Song, this earworm of a song refuses to leave you alone whether you like it or not! 09 Katy Perry - Unconditionally UK peak: #25 My peak: 1 (3 weeks) UNCLE DE SEAN ALI!!!!11!!!1 (No.) Haters to the left, people say it's dull and think her diction is terrible but this is the pinnacle of Katy ballads IMO and should be massive. An ode to love whether you're bi, straight, gay, male, female or anywhere else on any spectrum, this has bafflingly fallen a bit flat chart wise. THAT X-Factor performance didn't help I suppose, but her beautiful Chatty Man performance will hopefully silence those who say she can't sing...

December 26, 201311 yr Author 08 Tove Lo - Habits UK peak: DNC My peak: #2 The pinnacle of Scandipop for 2013 is this sublime heartbreak track by Tove Lo. From the moment I read the fanwank write-up on Scandipop.com and was compelled to listen, I fell for the track much more than Tove's previous work and it has beaten all but 7 songs from this year in my affections. Think of a Robyn track, add a bit of Lana Del Rey mystique to the vocals and you're kinda there. But if you haven't heard this, remedy that immediately - pop perfection! 07 Demi Lovato - Made In The USA UK peak: #89 My peak: #1 (2 weeks) This song pretty much made my summer! Although I wasn't thrilled with it as the second single at first, this grew massively and has become one of Demi's best singles for me. Sadly, the charts didn't agree and this peaked at a paltry #80 in the US and 9 places lower in the UK. Although of course it would rude of her to break the curse on Disney girls who aren't Hilary Duff or Miley Cyrus having two hits in one era (although Skyscraper did belatedly make the top 10 during this era on top of Heart Attack peaking at #3...)!

December 27, 201311 yr Author 06 Natalia Kills - Saturday Night UK peak: DNC My peak: #1 (1 week) Just missing the top 5, as the highest song in this countdown to not chart in the Uk, is the second single from faux-American Natalia Kills (she's really from Bradford). As many of you will be thinking 'wut', imagine Lady Gaga singing a Lana Del Rey song with all the pain and emotion and you've got this. I thought the same all through the Perfectionist era, but I am baffled as to how she hasn't even had a hit yet, let alone how she isn't massive! 05 The Saturdays - What About Us? UK peak: #1 My peak: #1 (2 weeks) Kicking off the top 5 is the song that finally got The Saturdays a UK chart topper after 5 years and a few near misses! Starting the year in a massive way for the girls, this set up the album to be perhaps their biggest yet - but of course they f***ed it up and went and left it until two singles later.... Anyway, the song remains amazing and one of their best. Even Sean Paul can't change that.

This saw them move to a more mature R&B sound, and was hailed for being similar to much loved 90s R&B. The song gave the girls another sizeable hit, and told us exactly what to expect from the amazing second album - slick, bouncy, fun R&B. 03 Miley Cyrus - Wrecking Ball UK peak: #1 My peak: #2 Demolishing all competition to become the highest non #1 in this countdown is twerk queen Miley Cyrus with her worldwide #1 Wrecking Ball. The beautiful video to this huge emotional ballad smashed records by achieving the most views of any music clip in 24 hours and became the fastest video to reach 100 millions. Definitely Miley's pinnacle to date, even with so much competition. So that leaves just the (surely obvious) top 2... :o

Since the #2 came out this has been pretty much set in stone, I had a feeling from the first few days of release of #1 it would definitely be a major end of year contender! 02 Katy Perry - Roar UK peak: #1 My peak: #1 (5 weeks) This year's runner-up nabs her second year end #2, following 2010's runner-up Firework. The lead single from Katy's third (or fourth if we don't ignore her 2001 Christian album Katy Hudson!) album, Roar is a confident pop anthem that cemented Katy even further as one of the queens of the pop jungle, with a rousing 'oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh' hook that will plant itself in your head for at least a week after listening. Already one of my 3 favourite Katy tracks, which says a lot given her incredible discography. No wonder this gave her a 4th #1 hit in the UK (her 6th with me) and went on to become one of the biggest hits of the year, shifting 763,000 copies to date. So here it is, to no-one's surprise, the #1 song of 2013 is... 01 Demi Lovato - Heart Attack UK peak: #3 My peak: #1 (10 weeks) And here she is! The Queen of 2013 is undeniably Demi, with the ex Disney star doing the double and snatching the top album and the top single of the year. Heart Attack premiered in late February and went on to spend 10 weeks at the top of my chart, achieving a top 10 run of 1-1-1-3-1-1-1-1-1-1-3-2-1-2-3-6-7-10. It also hit top 3 in the UK, and to date is only surpassed by Miley Cyrus' two #1 hits in terms of Disney girl peaks, selling in excess of 200,000 copies. This breezy electro-pop track is absolute perfect pop, and ranks among Demi's best - only behind Skyscraper, an all time favourite of mine.
December 29, 201311 yr Predictable but great top two. Roar is probably my favourite Katy song now, Hot N Cold and Self Inflicted being my previous favourites of hers. I almost always LOVE all of her songs but none of them have ever made my EOY top 10. Heart Attack is fantastic, really grew on me over time.
