Dan Croll should have been here. You know, it's not as if he's the psychedelic version of Ben Howard or anything.

Sam Smith deserves it. Forget Latch, it's about Nirvana

George Ezra and Jungle could do well!

Sam Smith's new single "Money on My Mind" is - as Zane Lowe put - one of the best records of the year. Unbelievably addictive, gutted it's not out until February 2014 though!

5. George Ezra

Bluesy, acoustic ballads

From Bristol, UK

Age 19

BBC Bristol first spotted George Ezra, championing his bluesy, acoustic ballads back in February 2012.

That led to sessions at Maida Vale and a slot on Glastonbury’s Introducing stage.

Bristol’s Introducing presenter Richard Pitt described him as "a young man with the voice of a 50 year old”, and his gravelly voice is certainly reminiscent of his heroes Bob Dylan and Woody Guthrie.

It’s a long journey from his first ever concert – watching the teeny pop band S Club 7.

While his music has been picked up by 6 Music and Radio 1, the 19-year-old has stayed true to his roots, playing three residencies in Bristol’s Gallimaufry club this year – in between support slots for Lianne La Havas and Tom Odell.

“Things are happening in Bristol and its exciting,” he told local music website Daisy Digital.

I like George Ezra Budapest was outstanding!!

Id say they prob leave Sam Smith out of this because he got the brit promo!!

I don't think they'll make the same mistake as last year and exclude the BRIT winner from the poll. Of them all, Sam Smith is a given for success. I'd say they'd chuck Royal Blood or Say Lou Lou in at #3/4 then Ella Eyre and MNEK occupying #2 and whatever the 'group' doesn't get.

Saying all this, MNEK and Sam Smith are already lined up for big debut singles, so they could exclude both and chuck someone like Banks in the list.

A Sam Smith/Ella Eyre/Banks/MNEK top 4 would be the best outcome imo, I could see them all enjoying success in 2014 (especially Sam Smith, I imagine he'll win this)
Really hoping BANKS is here somewhere, I'm really liking Waiting Game at the minute (and should delve a bit further into her other tracks). I'm sure Sam Smith, Ella Eyre and MNEk will take up three of the remaining four slots but there's always room for a surprise I guess!
God, I completely forgot she was even in it! Along with Banks, she'd be my top pick but I'm not sure if either will be top 5...
The Sound of is usually in line with the BRITs (last year being an exception of course) so I would guess that Sam, Ella and Chlöe are 3 of the 4 to come, probably in that order with BANKS or MNEK 4th if I were to guess. They sometimes like to be ~different~ though so who knows. Fingers crossed for Sampha to be top 5 somehow.
Banks, MNEK and Chloe Howl for the Top 3 please. Although Sam Smith will predictably be up there :drama:

Really don't get Sampha, not a fan at all...

I'd be happy with any of MNEK, Sam Smith, Banks, Chloe Howl or Ella eyre in the top 3. The latter three would be my ideals but there's no way Sam smith won't be in there.

Chloe Howl is so unnecessary at the moment now though, what with Lily Allen's return. I'd happily see R1 confirm 2014 support of whatever Banks, MNEK and Ella Eyre have to offer; think they can afford to leave Sam Smith off.
