June 18, 201411 yr How so? Italy finished their group with 2 points in 2010, Spain could yet end with 3. If they win a match does it not make it better than France and Italy's? I'm referring to the fact that they have gone out after just two games. At least France and Italy went into their final game with a chance of getting through. Conceding seven goals (with possibly more to come) is pretty rubbish too. I agree with Mark's other point though. Spain have been worthy world and European champions and it's a shame to see them leave without putting up much of a fight.
June 18, 201411 yr It was just one tournament too far for this group of players. Regardless of how shit in this World Cup, this group of players in their prime is the best team I've ever seen, just edging out Brazil in 2002. They've just peaked. I think they will do ok in the Euros, but use it to give their younger players the tournament experience, and then have a real go again in Russia. They're lucky they have so many good players that they will still be able to use the likes of Iniesta, Costa, Fabregas, Silva etc. with Isco, Koke, Moreno, Navas, Defloefu etc. etc.
June 18, 201411 yr The 2008 Spain team is probably my favourite international team that I've ever seen, that team would have won any tournament. Them winning Euro 2008 was such a breath of fresh air as it was the first time I ever saw them win a trophy. With World Cup 2010 I wanted Holland to win the final but it was still kind of fresh seeing Spain win the World Cup for the first time but when it came to Euro 2012 I just thought "oh for f**k sake, can't someone else win?" it was the worst and most boring outcome possible of that tournament. June 18, 201411 yr I'm worried about Diego Costa joining Chelsea now. He never seems to perform in the big matches. I don't think I can describe how awful I feel for Casillas. Absolutely devastated for him.

Absolutely devastated for him. He'll be fine at Chelsea. Spain don't play to his strengths, Chelsea do. I'd be more worried about Fabregas.
June 18, 201411 yr Casillas is a great goalkeeper but he has had a terrible tournament :( He's not really played well in his last three competitive matches. He was poor in the champions league final and has been poor in the last two matches. I'm absolutely gutted that he's not performed that well. I think the best thing for Casillas would be to leave Real Madrid - I think lack of game time is effecting his overall performance. He'll be fine at Chelsea. Spain don't play to his strengths, Chelsea do. I'd be more worried about Fabregas. I'm not so sure - every big match I've seen him (not just spain) he's just performed poorly. I'm still interested in the business that Chelsea are going to do regarding Lukaku and Thibaut Courtois. Jose has confirmed that Courtios is rejoining the club - where does that leave Cech? I predict a switch to Monaco / PSG.
June 18, 201411 yr It's a shame De Gea picked up an injury as I think he'd have been the far better shout for the goalie in this match.

There are better, more talented strikers about, but I think he suits a Mourinho team perfectly. Just over the last three months his profile has raised significantly so there's certainly more pressure on him, so that's possibly not helped. Problem with Cesc is I expect he will be played in a midfield two. Just not sure he's that effective there. He's regressed since he's been at Barcelona, think he is the type of player that needs to be the main man. Casillas is just not that good anymore. There's a reason Ancelotti effectively dropped him, and favours Lopez.

Hmm, I wonder if Sami Hyypia has his number. I'm sure Casillas would love a spell on the Sussex coast  I remember seeing him playing for Real Madrid when he was still a teenager and he was already a great goalkeeper then so it's sad to see him struggle at the moment. You're probably right in saying that his lack of game time is a major factor so a move to Brighton would be ideal :D
June 19, 201411 yr Croatia looked good against an awful Cameroon team tonight. Their game against Mexico will be fascinating.
June 19, 201411 yr Author I always thought Chile would qualify, but I never expected it to be at the expense of Spain. I thought Netherlands would similarly flop as they did in Euro 2012, so they've been a bit of a surprise package for me I think one of the issues with Spain though was Del Bosque's loyalty to certain players. Llorente and Negredo were more deserving of places in the squad than Torres for example
June 19, 201411 yr Don't watch actual matches - just trying to catch up on interesting moments hours later~ But that Cahill's goal was fabulous! *.* A precise pass and even a more precise goal. This is how you do it, Spain.
June 19, 201411 yr Apparantly Portugal are missing 3 players, Ronaldo is injured, Fabio is out and Pepe got that red card. Do you guys reckon the US stand a chance against them now?
June 19, 201411 yr Maybe. Will be interesting to see whether they try and dominate possession as they've got the players to do so and Portugal tend to set up to counter - although less so without Ronaldo.
June 19, 201411 yr Brazil, assuming they thump Cameroon who were crap last night, will play either Holland or Chile next round. Should be a good match. England in the quarters maybe?
June 20, 201411 yr Author Brazil, assuming they thump Cameroon who were crap last night, will play either Holland or Chile next round. Should be a good match. England in the quarters maybe? As it stands we're looking at: Brazil vs. Chile Netherlands vs. Mexico Colombia vs. Italy Costa Rica vs. Ivory Coast France vs. Iran Argentina vs. Switzerland Germany vs. South Korea Belgium vs. United States Obviously some teams have only played 1 group match though, so it's likely to change
June 20, 201411 yr Full-time: Italy 0 - Costa Rica - 1. England are out. Costa Rica in last 16. Edited June 20, 201411 yr by Common Sense
