It's not impossible but unlikely that Spain will win the group now. If they do still go through in second place they'd most likely face Brazil in the next round so imo it's bye bye Spain!

Only managed to watch the first half, but I was pleasantly surprised at how Australia played and got back into the game after being 2 goals down

Not quite the whipping boys as predicted

The second half was so much better than the first. Australia came out playing like they did at the end of the first half and it turned into a fantastic match. Australia didn't look like the lowest ranked team of the tournament during that second half.

It'd be a shame to see Brazil against Spain as early as the second round but if the former don't pick up a bit (obviously Spain need to or they'll get knocked out in the group) I'm not sure it'd be a particularly worthy semi or final anyway.
They don't always start slow, in Euro 2008 Spain were truly unstoppable winning every match with some of the best football I've ever seen. Easily my favourite Spain team of this golden generation era.

For Holland it's a case of "if only" it would be them who would have the gold star and World Cup logo badge on their shirts instead of Spain if they did this 4 years ago. Robben and Van Persie were the men of the match imo and I loved Van Persie's 1st goal and Robben's 2nd goal.

That Spain team was amazing though. Torres, Villa, Puyol, Iniesta, Xavi, Alonso, Casillas - all at their peak. The commentators touched on it, but they've been too loyal to their older players. Should have brought a handful of their next generation of stars.

I can't see Spain qualifying now.

They've got players in their squad to be more direct. I'd play Pedro and Martinez in the next game.
I never expected this! The match is great to watch also

Yeah I did think it'd be quite routine for Uruguay, but they have been on the decline since their Copa America win

Finished below Ecuador in their world cup qualifying group and needed a play-off vs. Jordan to qualify

Being without Suarez obviously hasn't been a help though

Literally every country in this poule could qualify right now!

3-1 :o

This World Cup so far is MILES of an improvement on the last one.

G'WON Costa Rica. Shake off all those naysayers.

I never expected that outcome, England need to score a couple of goals tonight.

Really enjoyed the Costa Rica match - and the tournament so far.

BBC Football reporting that there's been 22 goals in the 6 matches so far compared to 8 goals in 6 matches in 2010. Which means England and Italy will draw 0-0.

Really enjoyed the first half of that match including the celebration where Gary Lewin got hurt

The Irony of the physio being stretchered off was too much for me. Actually crying with laughter, which is a shame because he's clearly hurt badly.

Dislocated ankle apparently so putting it back could be very painful

I guess that would be a good question "What happens next" on "A Question Of Sport"

Ecuador and Switzerland currently playing for the honour of getting knocked out by Argentina in the second round. 1-1 at the moment, if it stays like that then whichever team can cope better with Honduras' physicality will probably go through.

Uruguay missed Suarez because his absence pushed Cavani forwards and Forlan did a lousy job of linking with the midfield. Playing 4-4-2 played into Costa Rica's hands but I can't see either team giving England much trouble if we play like we did for much of last night.
