Marvin Gaye - Whats Going On

Given it's Tony doing this, this will certainly get a mention.

La Bouche - Be My Lover

I was surprised this only scraped into the top 40 since it was huge everywhere else, especially when Eurodance was king in the '90s.

There was a section on this in one of the Guinness Book of Hit Singles in the 90s. 'Brown Eyed Girl' is the most obvious one (only charting this year for the first time). Also 'Puff the magic dragon' which I don't think ever charted.

Surely these will be the types of songs played on the radio show rather than obscure offerings from the likes of Atomic Kitten and Natasha Bedingfield that only some Buzzjackers will know!?

Summer of 69 still hasn't gone top 40.

Lights #49 ~ 4.000.000 USA

Cosmic love #51 ~ It got #3 on the irish chart

It had the benefit of being featured in a commercial in Ireland.

Albert Hammond - It never rains in Southern California was a flop but should have charted

Welcome to the Money House by Animal Magnet was big in the clubs in the 80s but failed to chart.

Also, Kiss Me (original version) by Tin Tin should have been a big hit.

Some more recent "hits":

Dog Days Are Over only managed a peak at No. 23 (but had a lengthy 31 week chart run in the Top 75 so that might cancel DDAO out as a non-hit?)

You Belong With Me by Taylor Swift peaked at No. 30!

I always thought Wonderful Life was a hit in the UK but was shocked to discover that it only peaked at No. 21 and left the Top 75 after 6 weeks!

Fergalicious peaked at No. 62! (according to Wikipedia though I can't find it on acharts)

That was before Taylor was big here, her label really pushed Love Story to be a smash here, but then didn't put the effort in after that untill We're Never Ever Getting Back Together. Love Story was pushed from like the September or October of 2008 and wasn't release in the UK to Feb 2009.

To be fair, this one was the obvious choice to follow-up 'Rabbit Heart' and for some bizarre reason they wasted several singles before they got to it.

Ooh a Silver Rocket post complaining about poor single choices, how novel!

(You are 100% right on this occasion but if it still only got #51 when they did eventually release it, it probably wouldn't have done THAT well had it actually been released at a sensible time, as much as it deserved to :( Still their best song by far, at least the Irish had the sense to make it a big hit, ad-related or not).

I agree with you on Florence, but I don't think any of the others are even well remembered now, let alone mistaken for hits (not counting outside of the UK obvs)

I think 'You Belong With Me' is kind of remembered in as much as people remember the whole Kanye West VMAs thing which it was related to. (Which was of course the only reason the song even became a hit here to begin with as well).
"Wonderful Life" made the top 10.

The Black song of that name did. The Hurts song (which I assume is what the poster meant) did not.

Ah, OK, I completely forgot about the Hurts' track. Pales in comparison with the Black one.
'Wonderful Life' (of the Hurts flavour) is highly overrated. 'Better Than Love' on the other hand was incredible, can't believe that missed the top 40 entirely.

Note to self

Must resist my usual slagging off debut Hurts album every time they're brought up

And 'Illuminated' too. (and 'Stay' which was a recent grower for me).

I loved their album. I've not heard the second one but I do really like the two singles so should.
