It's worth noting that the figures for 80-82 were not Christmas weeks as the charts were not compiled for those years :D

So 2013 has the lowest selling Christmas No1 album for at least 24 years... :(

Cheers for the information. :D

Hope you don't mind, but I thought it might be interesting for some people to see the Airplay Chart Christmas number ones too.

AIRPLAY

1991 Simply Red - Stars

1992 Whitney Houston - I Will Always Love You

1993 Take That - Babe

1994 East 17 - Stay Another Day

1995 Michael Jackson - Earth Song

1996 Toni Braxton - Unbreak My Heart

1997 Natalie Imbruglia - Torn

1998 The Corrs - So Young

1999 Robbie Williams - She's The One

2000 Robbie Williams - Supreme

2001 Daniel Bedingfield - Gotta Get Thru This

2002 Robbie Williams - Feel

2003 Will Young - Leave Right Now

2004 Kylie Minogue - I Believe In You

2005 Madonna - Hung Up

2006 Take That - Patience

2007 Girls Aloud - Call The Shots

2008 Take That - Greatest Day

2009 Joe McElderry - The Climb

2010 Ellie Goulding - Your Song

2011 Mariah Carey - All I Want For Christmas Is You

2012 Olly Murs feat. Flo Rida - Troublemaker

2013 Avicii - Hey Brother

Thought I'd add this to the list too

UK CHRISTMAS NUMBER ONE EPs

Record Retailer started the EP chart from it's first issue, chart w/e 12/03/1960

w/e 31/12/1960 OST - South Pacific No.1

w/e 30/12/1961 Helen Shapiro - Helen

w/e 29/12/1962 The George Mitchell Minstrells - The Black And White Minstrell Show (btw I think they were also xmas #1 album in 1962 rather than The Shadows in the earlier list)

w/e 28/12/1963 The Beatles - Twist And Shout

w/e 26/12/1964 The Bachelors - Bachelor's Hits

w/e 25/12/1965 Manfred Mann - No Living Without Loving

w/e 31/12/1966 The Who - Ready Steady Who

Record Retailer published it's last EP chart for w/e 02/12/1967, since when EPs were usually eligible for the singles chart.

The Beatles are therefore the only act in history to do the Christmas Number One treble of Singles, EPs and Albums!

Can anyone add the xmas number ones for any of the following? Compilation Chart, Download Chart, Physical Chart (I think Cliff had an extra one in the 00s on that chart).

Hope you don't mind, but I thought it might be interesting for some people to see the Airplay Chart Christmas number ones too.

Wow so in the last 18 years the only sales based xmas number one that was also airplay based xmas number one was Joe McElderry of all people. I guess he was being played more than most X Factor winners singles due to the hype around the Rage campaign that year.

Interestingly too there are two songs here that were not in the sales based singles top 10 for that week but still top 20, and one song wasn't even top 30 on the sales based singles chart of the same week (of course I realise that they may have been getting played based more on album success than singles).

I always thought the Pogues were no1 in the airplay charts a few years back when xmas day was at the end of a specific week?!

Oh of course not, I was being dopey there, but then he is the only X Factor winner to have an airplay xmas number one, even though he is one of only 4 who didn't have a sales based one and the only one of those 4 who was actually released in the relevant sales week and realistically enter the battle in the first place.

So no sales based xmas number one has also been the airplay based christmas number one for 18 years now, blimey.

Christmas #1 sales (with Panel Sales too...To save argument! )

1977 Mull Of Kintyre 320,008 (18824 Panel Sales)

1978 Mary's Boy Child 235,000 (11750 Panel Sales)

1979 Another Brick In The Wall 177,940 (8897 Panel Sales)

1980 There's No One Quite Like Grandma 144,980 (7249 Panel Sales)

1981 Don't You Want Me 187,370 (18737 Panel Sales)

1982 Save Your Love 152,240 (15224 Panel Sales)

So That's My Goal is the biggest selling XMAS #1 after Band Aid then. Good stuff, was and still is one of my fave X Factor singles ^_^
Amazing to think the Spice girls sold over 1 million singles in those 3 Christmas weeks. That is an eighth of all their total UK singles sales sold in 3 weeks.

1996 Spice Girls 2 Become 1 429,000

1997 Spice Girls Too Much 252,000

1998 Spice Girls Goodbye 380,000

1999 Westlife I have a dream / Seasons in the sun 213,000

Three of the best number ones of al time, let alone the best three Christmas number ones AND consecutive too :DD, followed by the absolute worst :| . Can we replace it with Stop, please??

The Spice girls were probably still big enough in 1999 to have out sold Westlife's single. They did a 10 date sell out arena tour in Dec 1999, they could have sang it every night and done the usual round of promo and got a 4th Christmas #1.

Seriously? I don;t know if that makes me feel better or worse haha! Why didn't they do it then for a fourth consecutive no.1 at Xmas? They could have released W.O.M.A.N or a simple Christmas song cover!

They were all onto solo projects by then so no real interest. I think a Xmas No 1 might have stretched them by this point against Westlife. They more or less went up against them in November 2000 and got well and truly beaten in the album charts (and would have in the singles chart if they had gone head to head) :(
