Yes.. in the UK. I was talking about WORLDWIDE

Whilst it's true that Leona's experienced worldwide success with her first two albums, Glassheart/Christmas With Love didn't really do much worldwide. Success was restricted to the UK/Germany, although "One More Sleep" managed #10 on the US AC chart with the album selling ~27,000 copies there.

Hopefully I Am will be able to do well worldwide, especially with all the upcoming promotion. :)

Thank you :-)

Do you know what happens at these listening parties? I'm so excited.. I've never even been to London before! :-))

Thank you! I don't think I've ever been so excited for anything in my whole life!

thought I'd lighten the mood of this thread tonight... hahah!

Leona doesn't have success WW anymore though, she doesn't even have it at home, whereas Stereophonics do. They've had their time where they were approaching

irrelevence but they went away and came back with material their fans wanted to hear and as a result have managed to regain alot of popularity.

I said previous success. They have NOTHING on Leona at all. Except more albums and more #1's in the UK.

"material their fans wanted to hear", well for them it is easy but with Leona who's able to do any genre basically, the material the fans want to record is different. The one wants uptempos, the other ballads, the other wants collabs with trash artists, ...

It's easy to come back to relevance when they only need to focus on the UK

That's why I did say compare to her previous success, not you mentioning her holiday album and the album that sold the least

You can't just pick and choose what parts of her career to compare  look at it as a whole. She was successful, moreso than the Phonics, I'm not denying that, but the point is, she isn't successful anymore, they are. The band never really had a massiv epush WW like Leona did, it's not fair to compare them like that, the same way you say it's not fair to compare the fact they've hade more #1's because of more albums.

Leona cannot do any genre and she's proved that. It's not hard to strike a balance of uptempo and ballads.

Gaining relevance back is hard when you lose it, no matter if you are doing it on one country or one hundred.

Let's compare debuts then?

Leona wins.

No one said she is successful now though. But you're basically having fun SP will do better than Leona, while clearly there's a difference in relevance. So hypocrite

This is just going to go round in circles, drop the Leona vs Stereophonics debate and move on to discussing something else.

Leona had much more oppertunities and money thrown at her with her debut though.

Chances are, the Phonics WILL outsell her, you were the one to come along and call them flops.

Yes in terms of overall worldwide success. I swear y'all need to learn how to read

No doubt they'll outsell Leona.

This isn't ATRL, so tone it down.

In other news, the album pre-order is #126 on Amazon UK and almost top 200 on iTunes.

There is nothing ATRL about what are you even talking about

No need to be rude - "I swear ya'll need to learn to read" wasn't necessary. I've seen how things can escalate with you on ATRL and just want to keep it civil is all. :P

Will Young still managed a number 1 album of over 20k singles here depite lacking a top 100 single, but had plenty of radio 2 support. Of course Will has had a longer career than Leona and greater success spread over all his albums, but the point is just because the singles have not exactly set the UK alight (not that they have really had much opportunity) it does not mean that the album can't still do well. No one is expecting this to be selling millions, or even half a million for that matter. I think with the right support it could be a consistent seller and build on the sales Christmas, With Love had. That sold over 100k and was just a holiday album with one single released 3 weeks before christmas. If radio 2 continue to support her and they actually work on how they promote her singles here I think it could be a consistent seller over the season. People still like Leona, One More Sleep showed that. It is just a matter of the right promo and the right material.

The fact we still don't have the video for I Am this close to album release is awful. Whatever 'buzz' people had about Leona making a return with FUMF has sizzled out. I doubt that many people outside her core fanbase (and regular radio 2 listeners this week) are even aware the new album is out next weekend! Really hope her UK promo improves and what tv slots she does have give her some decent impact.

Her pre-orders can't even get top 200, she is more irrelevent than relevent. As for promo, it's hardly stellar is it?

She's apparently got the likes of Ellen and James Corden booked so I'd say that's pretty stellar. I guess we'll just agree to disagree. But seriously, you should tone it down.

Sorry but Regina is actually... on point with his argument. There's no reason why she's flopping except the fact the music's not on par.

I really dislike these comments: Music is subjective. Some people won't like Leona's new material, some will love it. The reason why she's "flopping" is because the likes of Capital, Heart and Radio 1 aren't supporting her music. There are so many fantastic artists out there who release quality material constantly but flop because they don't get radio support. Likewise, there is a lot of sh*t out there that tops the charts worldwide simply because it gets radio support. Just because you're underwhelmed by the music, it doesn't mean it's lacklustre.

I think Leona's album is sounding tight. I think a lot of work has gone into recording it and it's well produced. But Regina is correct in the fact it's a bit of a non-event. Island had a great opportunity here - they could have really had Leona come back with a bit of a bang. Stereophonics, have managed to keep momentum up, despite the fact this is their 80th album and they have a lot less of a legacy than Leona.

I know she'd never be back at Spirit levels of success again, but I think choosing 'Fire Under My Feet' as the first single, and the way it was handled really harmed the campaign. So I think it's the campaign that's been weak, not the actual album, which I agree with Scene is subjective - because a lot of people seem to be enjoying what they're hearing - it's just not an album that sounds like it has a 'hit' on it. But I'm really excited to receive the album and give it proper listen in full.

I am really saddened that some of you find the new music weak, for me it is her best to date. Just listened to Power for the first time, what a track, what a vocal, my favourite so far. I am excited to hear Ladders and all the other tracks when the album arrives. Of course music is subjective so Leona will never please everyone, and of course her fanbase has varying ages and tastes. I am really surprised by the lovely lyrics this era and Leona's vocal is really the best it has been for a long while.

'Power' is just extraordinary.

Album is 110/82 on Amazon. That's pretty decent! Just needs to pick up on iTunes a bit now, though I'm sure she'll do better on the physicals side anyway.

Also doing Lorraine on Thursday!
