It's a fairly solid album, but there's not as many highlights as her previous albums. It's all very consistent.
I am surprised at how well it's started off - especially in the US. There are 6 pre-orders ahead of it there so it's technically #30. Can't wait to see how high it can go with the promotion next week! :cheer:

Just listening to this now and it's consistently solid. Not as many "highs" as her previous albums, but there's nothing that is rubbish on here! 'Another Love Song' is by FAR the best song on this album and I'm going to be EXTREMELY annoyed if it becomes the 'Take A Bow'/'Outta My Head'/'Glassheart' of this era! Come on Leona, release one of your most comercially appealing songs for once!

First listen rankage:

11.0 'Another Love Song'

09.0 'I Am'

09.0 'Thank You'

08.5 'I Got You'

08.0 'Power'

08.0 'You Knew Me When'

08.0 'Thick Skin'

08.0 'Fire Under My Feet'

07.5 'Ladders'

07.0 'The Essence Of Me'

07.0 'Thunder'

07.0 'The Best & The Worst'

Lovely little album.

Oh and the acoustic version of 'I Am' is GORGEOUS!

Just listening through the album and it is much better than the singles would have you believe, only Thunder out of the three singles would probably be in the top half of my rankings I think! All the tracks come together very very nicely in the context of the album and while there's no massive stand-outs (except Another Love Song), it is very consistent as Jonjo and April say.

There's potential for this to become my second favourite Leona album behind the flawless 'Echo', and 'Another Love Song' must be the next single (and apparently the TV advert for the album says it is one of the singles so it looks like it is next!).

Oh and the fanified poster is a lovely idea, very glad I got that!

Not a fan of the iTunes banner either but i'm glad there is one.

So excited to hear the performance tonight, I'd love them to sing "The Prayer" but think its Dont cry For Me Argentina which is still epic.

#8 in midweeks.

It's very unlikely she will make the top #10 if she's only got the Lotto tonight and that's it. Huge shame. The album deserves more.

There are FIFTEEN new entires in the top 20. Leona couldn't have picked a busier week.

That is absolutely shambolic.

To think you thought I was being unrealistic when i said she wouldn't open with more than 14,000. Bars & Melody having a bigger fanbase than Leona though! I have no idea why her promotion is so limited this wee, she should be on This Morning, Good Morning Britain and it would be nice if she managed to get Graham Norton.

It's a really bad start and she'll no doubt fall to around 15 by the end of the week, given that her opening position includes all the pre-orders, and there are a few albums below her that are much more consistent than she'll be through the week. There's no recovering from that kind of opening either, so this will plummet over the next few weeks. The sales for this are likely to look pretty disastrous.

It's totally possible she won't even make 10k this week. Benchmark for number 12 over the last few weeks is a meagre 3-6k. This is a much busier week so sales will be higher but they're not going to more than double. What an absolute mess.

Yeah I guess I was wrong. I don't know why another big label would be so interested in signing her and recording an album if they weren't going to give it a decent push in the one country where she could still be relevant.

I don't think her label have actually spent much as she recorded / finished the album before joining Island, I'm guessing her next album will allow her to write with other artists which will make it even better but I'm not sure I see anywhere back for Leona now.

You're right, her label spent next to nothing on the actual album as she'd pretty much done it all before signing with them, which makes it even more frustrating that they couldn't spend some of the money they'd saved on getting some real promotion. They've done literally nothing for her in the UK.

I feel the same. I honestly can't see her having any kind of commercial success again.

All it takes, is that ONE song. It's never truly over for anybody. Especially the last few years where bands like Maroon 5 & OneRepublic were in similar situations etc... I know it'll be hard and she likely won't ever get a huge album again, but I'm still thinking that in a few years time she'll have another huge hit. But even the likes of Madonna, Mariah and Whitney had second winds at some points where their careers looked like they were never gonna be the same again.

She just needs something that's current and makes her stand out amongst her piers. It's too late into the campaign for 'Another Love Song' to do anything, but if she'd have given that a push as the first single, I believe it'd have done something due to it being not only different for her, but different to what we hear in the charts.

It's a shame that her career has gone this way, because a voice like hers is too special to waste. But sometimes things have to get worse, before they can get better.

Their promotional tactics are what I've always dreamed for Britney, who never promotes and goes on holiday when her lead single drops. Billboards.
I think she'll get X Factor slot but I think her performance will have a similar impact to Nicole Scherzinger 'Run'.
Jonjo the difference between Leona and every artist you mentioned is that they all have worldwide careers, so it's always easier for them to kickstart their career again after a lacklustre campaign. Leona may as well be a brand new artist - her profile is either so low or completely non existent. She'll forever have to start again with every album campaign. People don't forget about those artists because they had many years of sustained success on a worldwide level before their first big disappointment. Leona doesn't have that luxury.
