^ Oh thank goodness! Still not great, but hopefully it means it'll be top 100 this week.
The material is good enough. The problem is radio poitics. Not getting Radio 1 or Capital support for Thunder got things off to a bad start.I saw the televised Usa performances of Thunder on GMA, Ellen, James Cordon, and The Talk. The people in the audience seem to have a good reaction to the song. The problem is failing to send Thunder to Top 40 radio. Its been doing Ok on Hot AC, Its been on that chart almost 2 months which is a good thing.

Sorry I disagree. The songs in my opinion arent very good. Might be personal to Leona but that doesnt mean its any good really.

And just because you don't think they're any good, it doesn't mean they actually aren't any good.

No, it doesn't, but he's pretty clearly stated that his personal dislike for the songs makes him think that the reason she's not doing well is because they are generally disliked by those who hear them. Obviously you're free to think that most people who hear the songs will like them and the problem is just radio not supporting her, but neither theory is provable. It's entirely possible that a lot of people just don't think her current music is very good.

I know plenty of others that share Billy's views on the material. Outside of here and her fans on Twitter I haven't really heard much positive from other casual listeners (not really negative either, but a lot of neutral which in some ways is worse).

With that said, the people that buy/stream music most now use the stations like Capital and Radio 1, so without having that support in the first place it is difficult to say how things would have panned out if they did support her.

The sad thing is Leona has an image problem in the UK in part to Syco. If you ask someone outside her fanbase to describe Leona one of the first things they will probably say is boring. Not everyone follows her activity as much as us so they haven't seen her fun side (closest thing was One More Sleep). How to go about changing this image at this point in Leona's career I have no idea haha. Some high profile features would do Leona wonders.

She's over, like I said months ago.

We can enjoy the indpendent music and EPs she puts out now, but her career ended with the misrelease of Glassheart and ignoring the very obvious single there.

Completely agreed.

This article is completely right, especially the bit at the end>

"Haunting the whole scenario, however, is the simple fact that Fire Under My Feet isn’t strong enough to make its mark in today’s overcrowded pop market. According to the website Compare My Radio, BBC Radio 1 have only played it twice in the past month, while YouTube views for the video are under 2m. It’s also hard to shake the fact that it sounded better when Adele did it as Rolling in the Deep a few years ago. Still, at least we’ll always have Bleeding Love."

To the naysayers, please realize that while it is reasonable to dislike the music of I AM, that in no way justifies its performance so far. I can point to a hundred objectively crap #1 singles and even more brilliant unheard of gems lurking on youtube. Tastes are subjective, chart and song success (heck, even appeal) can be invented. Record Labels in the know do this ALL. THE. DAMN. TIME. Rest it with the putdowns.

I agree that the album isn't the strongest she's produced. And I think a lot of the hype/love from the fans comes from a place of thirst "first new Leona music in AGES" feels.

But I also agree with Hagarthy, as there is enough good stuff on the album for it to have been a reasonable success. MUCH worse albums pick up big sales. I think the mistake was not focusing enough on promo and trying too hard to prematurely push the album in America when the market is just way too overcrowded for her at the moment. I can't think of many UK artists who are flopping in the UK managing to smash in the US with the same era.

She should have put the same amount of effort into promo in the UK that she did in the USA, then if she managed to re-establish herself here, maybe tried for USA next year.

I think a conversation I just had with someone kind of sums up the general stance on her as far as the public are concerned.

I mentioned her and the person asked "Is Leona even still around?", I said she is but very 'under the radar' to which the response was "shame, she was good for 10 minutes or so in 2009".

^ That's another thing I was going to say. People really still don't even know she's releasing music anymore which is a huge issue.

But if Heart, Capital and Radio 1 aren't going to support her, what else could she have done? She's performed on the TV shows that were airing around the time of the FUMF/album release - Palladium, John Bishop, Lorraine... I think it is good Def Jam are already focusing on the US because they know that if Leona can find success there, the UK will follow - as we usually do. US radio isn't as political as the UK and the reaction she gets over there from radio DJs and the public is far more positive than the reaction she gets in her home country. I don't think she should forget about the UK - look at what happened to Natasha B and Joss Stone - but it's a wise decision to prioritise the US.

Great post Hagarthy!

@rihanna and @leonalewis

I see you two sneaking a collaboration.

Great #MOBOAwards news.

She writes for the Independent, Sunday Times etc. :o

#80 in the album chart this week - didn't fall out of the top 100 thankfully.
Oh thats good! Still awful chart run 12-43-80 but its a lot better than 2 weeks top 100, So what will that be sales wise? about 1k? so the album will be on about 12k - 12.5k total sales in 3 weeks? to think some of us was predicting higher then 12k for its first week
Let's hope they get a move on with the next single and try to salvage the era with some good promotion slots nearer to Christmas. All Leona needs is one outstanding performance on a popular show (X-factor/Strictly/Graham Norton/Jonathon Ross/Royal Variety/Children In Need) to get the album chugging along again. Hoping "Another Love Song" will be the next single with an X-factor performance, but come December she'll perform "You Knew Me When" on a couple TV slots to help promote the album.
