May 20, 201510 yr I was so excited it'd be a full series too  Like I said a few posts up though, I'm not sure a full series would work necessarily, and I think one-off specials for other characters as part of a series would be great. I'd actually love that idea of one-off specials! There are some characters who could probably stretch beyond the traditional 3 minute segment of a sketch show.
May 21, 201510 yr New episodes! :o :cheer: I thought they'd given up on this since the pilot was over a year ago.
May 21, 201510 yr This is fantastic news! Though I really just want a return of the full show. TV is lacking a really good British sketchshow at the minute if I'm honest :nocheer:
December 2, 20159 yr New episodes are already causing controversy long before it's even aired~ The BBC has backed the show following reports that Joanie Taylor - the show's resident offensive granny - will call a Muslim man a terrorist. After noticing a man wearing a prayer cap and carrying a bag, she apparently announces: "Alright. No sudden movements. If this one has got anger problems we're all in trouble. I think we all just stay calm." Islamic groups have blasted the show over the character's insinuation that Muslims are likely to be terrorists, especially following the recent events in Paris. Birmingham Central Mosque chairman Mohammed Afzal said (via the Express): "This is insulting in the current climate. People will not find this funny. "It is tarnishing Muslims with the same brush as terrorists. It's disgusting." However, a BBC spokesman backed the show: "Nan is a comedy character well known to BBC audiences for her outrageous views, language and behaviour. "Her views do not hold accord with a more enlightened world as the programme makes clear." The issue in hand is not really surprising considering the previous special and the character.
December 3, 20159 yr I think there was controversy with the last episode as well - didn't she dress in the hijab? It's very risky comedy, but obviously isn't meant to seriously offend people. Nan has also been borderline racist, it's part of her character. It's just very risky now given what's occurring in reality.
December 8, 20159 yr I'm so glad this is going ahead... the character is racist and old-fashioned. That's the point... Were meant to sit and laugh at her outrageousness, not sit and agree with her. Were way too PC nowadays.
December 27, 20159 yr Tonight at 10.25pm. Nan attends anger management classes which she succeeds in disrupting. Also Wed. 10.25pm. Edited December 27, 20159 yr by Common Sense
December 28, 20159 yr I thought it was very enjoyable. I'm surprised they haven't commissioned a full series of this yet!
December 30, 20159 yr I love Nan but it doesnt work for me in the full show, the small part as part of the sketches were excellent, on paper i thought i would adore this but while i enjoyed the 2 episodes i was left disappointed, like wise with the pilot episode.
December 31, 20159 yr Last night's episode was hilarious. I think it's just taking a little time for Catherine Tate to get back into the role after so long. Hopefully we can have some more specials next year.
