OK this is where it gets serious... Was it not like everybody's favourite 1D single at one point? Or is that just me hearing it too many times from Joseph? x 'Kiss You' is one of the definitive songs from 'Take Me Home' - really summing up how much fun the album is (the video helped a lot with that as well, esp. with the shirtless moments that everybody was living for - closest we'll get to 'official' shirtless photoshoot-ness :kink:). They billed it as their biggest video yet and a movie-esque one, but really they just blew the whole thing out of the water by the time the 'Best Song Ever' video hit the surface... // And then there were three... Two songs from 'Midnight Memories' and one from 'Up All Night' remain. All three are singles. Only one can win! #3 coming soon. YAY. I do really like "Kiss You" but I find it very overrated, it's probably only the 7th best of their singles for me..

As absolutely beautiful and fantastic as the top two are, 'Best Song Ever' deserves to be spoiled rotten with this commentary (x). By far and away one of the best songs they've recorded in their three-album long career. 'Up All Night' covers a few bases with lead single 'What Makes You Beautiful', Australian single 'More Than This', flop single 'Gotta Be You' and the single that never was / perfect tour opener 'Up All Night'. 'Take Me Home' has beauties in every shape and form: 'Live While We're Young', 'Kiss You', 'C'mon, C'mon', the absolutely gorgeous 'Last First Kiss', 'Heart Attack', 'Change My Mind', 'I Would', 'Over Again', 'Back For You' and 'They Don't Know About Us'. None of them really come close to the pop perfection that is... this, though. The song stands as the perfect transition from their 'Take Me Home' and "original One Direction sound" to what they reach out to achieve with 'Midnight Memories'. It retains all of the gorgeousness that has gone before but ascertains a certain amount of risk and edge.

The video, obviously, is perfect. From Zayn as the sexy secretary to Harry "cute as a button" Styles. I think it's the only video where the theme, style and overall atmosphere has 100% matched the song. The dance moves are unforgettable. One of the reasons I fell in love with it so much after it was first released as well is because it is our JAM at college and it manages to wind everybody else in the class who has an obsolete opinion of the boys. So in the end, it was 1D’s first single that triumphed over their most recent smash (I can still get away with that now that Midnight Memories has well and truly flopped). WMYB is definitely the One Direction signature song, and it’s their biggest worldwide hit, hitting #4 in America as well as #1 here, and selling over 900k in the UK alone.

Story of My Life didn’t get off to quite so good a start, being released as an instant grat for the album Midnight Memories on a Monday. It was midweek #1 for Tuesday, but ended up at #4 on Sunday behind Eminem/Rihanna and two other songs. This is the third time that 1D have been blocked from the top by Rihanna (amongst other artists to be fair) after We Found Love was one of two songs to block Gotta Be You, and Diamonds was also one of two songs to block Live While We’re Young. Despite this, Story of My Life spent a total of 10 weeks, and in its 5th week, it achieved a new peak of #3, before climbing to #2 the week after that, behind only Lily Allen’s Somewhere Only We Know. The song is one of four of theirs to sell over 400k in the UK (along with WMYB, Little Things and One Way or Another).
