(6) Sex Tape - £265,384 Billy Elliot :o Impressive for a live event to top the box office, apparently a first! And I understand it was a one-day only thing? I've been looking up the detailed charts published by the BFI which I find interesting - for example, Guardians of the Galaxy still being #8 despite only being in 32 cinemas last weekend!
October 2, 201410 yr There was two showings in one day for Billy Elliot. But impressive indeed that it managed to actually TOP the Box Office :o I'm hoping 'Of Mice & Men' can do something similar, looking forward to watching that myself. 'The Equalizer' finishing second is no surprise though. Big hit. Hopefully 'Gone Girl' will do similar numbers this week, but I wonder if the "18" certificate will hinder it's success further? Great to see 'Guardians' still top 10 also, but sales are pretty crap at this time of year!

Great to see 'Guardians' still top 10 also, but sales are pretty crap at this time of year! I'm thinking and hoping Gone Girl will do quite a bit bigger than the Equalizer. I think £2.5-£2.7M. Dolphin tale 2 will struggle I think and Dracula untold will probably bomb Anyway Annabelle and Gone Girl starting massive in America- $15M & $13M on Opening day so hopefully 2 openers above $30M
October 4, 201410 yr Annabelle had a bigger opening day than Gone Girl? Jesus christ. The former looks awful but I've never been one for that genre. I'm hoping for more like £2.5 for Gone Girl too.. could be my own bias but the trailer has been in front of seemingly everything recently and has been all over Twitter etc.
October 4, 201410 yr Annabelle had a bigger opening day than Gone Girl? Jesus christ. The former looks awful but I've never been one for that genre. Gone Girl will win the weekend though which is good  I have been slowly reading it for about a month and I read 300 pages and finished the book yesterday night and today. It's so amazing. Shame I have to wait till DVD cause it's an 18

(6) No Good Deed $2,500,000 (-) Bang Bang 1,215,000 (-) The Good Lie 935,000 (-) Men, Women And Children 48,000 Absolutely gigantic starts for the top 2, I think this is only the 2nd ever time that the top 2 in October have both been over 30M. I think this is David Fincher's biggest opening ever and Gone Girl should have great legs. Annabelle only opened a few million under The Conjuring which is fantastic and superb- especially considering its a spinoff which tend to earn much less and how bad horror has done this year (not including the purge: anarchy which is more a thriller, Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones was the biggest opening for a horror this year with 18M). The Equalizer held well, The Boxtrolls had a fantastic hold (-28%) and The Maze Runner should pass 100M in a few weeks because its having great holds. Left behind which stars Nic Cage, has horrible reviews and has a beautiful song from Jordin Sparks did quite solid debuting with 6.8M from quite a small release. The Good Lie did bad with an average just over 2k and men, women and children started really poorly in its limited release Edited October 5, 201410 yr by Ultraviolence1989

October 5, 201410 yr Hope 'Gone Girl' outdid DU. I think it performed better at the cinema I work at so hopefully!
October 6, 201410 yr That's BRILLIANT! They got the marketing for it absolutely perfect and spot on though, so it shouldn't really be a surprise. I'm thinking it could grab a couple of big award noms next year! But yes, such a great start. Very happy (dunno if you can tell or not ;))

SUCCESS-O-METER [italics mean film missed the top 10] SUCCESS Interstellar- Yes it may not have reached the heights of Inception and Gravity but it has still done fantastically for an original space movie The Imitation Game- This will probably be StudioCanal's 2nd biggest film ever [behind another film released in November 2014] and has done absolutely great with amazing reviews and buzz carrying this to fantastic holds each week Nativity 3: Dude Where's My Donkey- It might not reach the total of the 2nd film but it has still done great The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1- The biggest opening of the year I believe and is only just tracking behind Catching Fire which is amazing Paddington- Let alone success of the month, this is quite arguably the success of the year. It has opened above monster hit Frozen, is Studio Canal's biggest film ever and should easily close with over £30M because of the Christmas holidays to become one of the biggest grossing films of the year. This has been just massive What We Do In The Shadows- Gigantic opening for a film playing at only 33 theatres SOLID My Old Lady- This did pretty well despite a limited release DISAPPOINTING Horrible Bosses 2- Opened and will finish below the original but it could have been worse Laggies- Missed the top 10 and didn't do great despite a couple of big name stars The Skeleton Twins- Despite buzz for this limited release, it really struggled to make any money BOMB Get On Up- After this bombed horribly in America it was obviously going to bomb here which it did fantastically
December 13, 201410 yr Horrible Bosses will end up closing around $7 million I think which isn't very good considering he first one did well above $16 million Laggies was a bit dissapointing considering that the likes of Universal were considering picking it up, distributing and promoting it. But when you take the fact that the actual distributor is such a small company, small promotion behind it's back and little hype and cinema showings, it's done alright. Paddington has done so well! If this doesn't go over $50 million I'll be shocked!

December 13, 201410 yr I like the idea of the success-o-meter. :D It could be something super famous but if "Gone Girl" is the 2nd biggest 18 of all time (is this by total gross or opening week or what scale?) do you know what the biggest is? :o Horns- Another bomb for Daniel Radcliffe as this missed the top 10 despite a 5 day opening, a lot of buzz and a massive marketing campaign. I was really expecting this to be at least top 5 on opening weekend :o[/i][/b][/color] This one surprised me. I'm not sure about buzz/marketing but given it was opening on Halloween weekend I was shocked it couldn't manage top 10.
December 13, 201410 yr Penguins has bombed so hard :( I think it's set to get $300 million worldwide for lifetime which is $200 million lower than Puss in Boots which was supposedly also a bit of a dissapointment in some areas. Ouch.
