You've never heard of like half the artists who enter the chart so that's no surprise.

 

They're a female-vocalled indie band who were on Sound of 2011 but their first album missed the top 40 (though it was released before Sound of 2011 to be fair). I wasn't really aware until the other day they had a new album out but I like what I've heard from them so it's great to see they'll get a much better chart placing this time.

 

Mogwai's new album could become their highest peaker if it's #6 today - they've had 5 previous top 40 albums but none have gone higher than #23. Guessing their soundtrack to the TV show Les Revenants has boosted their career recently.

 

Very happy with 77k for Clean Bandit so far, confirms that they will definitely pass 150k and might get close to 200k. Have to keep in mind that their pre-order was doing very well but in a much lower sales environment than usual for the 6-20 area of the chart at least, so it was never exactly on course for an opening week as big as 'Wake Me Up'. The Vamps' sales are much higher than I expected, even with their obligatory rapid tailoff it looks like they'll challenge for a 100k opening.

wouldn't be too sure, i think it'll probably stay top 5 (and maybe have ok-ish longevity, from what i gather she's gone to a more 'adult contemporary' style for this one, which i think is more likely to shift albums than if she was releasing a dance-pop record)

 

I hope Sophie is somehow able to do a Sharleen Spiteri (as in not have many hits, but chug around the top 40 for as long as possible).

I'm thinking #11 or #12 with a 50 place drop next week, but even so that's a vast improvement on her last album which went 33-124.

It was never going to do as well as them. It only got as high as it did on pre-orders because of sales being lower in general. I think 77k is good considering who the artist is.

Not quite - those are the sales for their first 3 days. Robin's first 2 days' sales were 80k and Avicii's were 123k (the latter was OCC confirmed, the former was from a reliable source).

Sophie may be lucky and remain top 10 but she will plummet next week like she has done so with her last few releases. Id like that not to happen but feel almost certain it will.

Midweek Charts: Clean Bandit, Vamps, Neon Jungle heading for top five

Clean Bandit are poised for their first UK No 1 single as newly-issued tracks by The Vamps and Neon Jungle look to break into this weekend's top five.

 

The Atlantic-signed British band's Rather Be featuring Jess Glynne had already sold more than 90,000 copies this week up to the end of business on Tuesday, according to the Official Charts Company, with fellow new releases by The Vamps and Neon Jungle at 2 and 4 in the midweeks.

 

Clean Bandit's highest-charting hit on the countdown until now is Mozart's House, which reached No 17 last year, while RCA girl band Neon Jungle are also set to score a new chart high this Sunday with new single Braveheart set to beat the No 12 peak achieved by Trouble last year.

 

With Clean Bandit more than 30,000 sales ahead, EMI's The Vamps are likely to have to settle for another single entering at No 2. The UK group's debut single Can We Dance arrived and peaked in runner-up position last October and now follow-up Wild Heart appears on course to do the same.

 

Between the three new entries, Pharrell Williams' Happy has dropped 1-3 in the week so far, while fellow RCA-handled Timber by Pitbull featuring Kesha falls 2-3 and the Positiva/PRMD-issued Hey Brother by Avicii is down 3-6. Warner Bros act Jason Derulo's Trumpets slips 4-7, 3 Beat/AATW singles Million Pound Girl (Badder Than Bad) by Fuse ODG and Control by Matrix & Futurebound featuring Max Marshall are down 6-8 and 8-10 respectively, while between them Polydor-signed Ellie Goulding's How Long Will I Love You drops 7-9 in the week so far.

 

Sales of Infectious act Vance Joy's Riptide are up 47% to lift it 18-12 on midweeks, while Parlophone artist Tinie Tempah's Lover Not A Fighter featuring Labrinth improves 27-17 with sales up 37%. Also looking to climb into the Top 20 is the Disney/Universal single Let It Go by Idina Menzel as it rises 31-20 in the week so far.

 

Several acts are taking advantage of another very quiet albums market as they look to achieve new career chart peaks or higher scoring debuts than previous albums. In the case of Sophie Ellis-Bextor her new title Wanderlust, self-released on the EBGB's label, is showing up as new entry at 4 in the latest artist album midweeks, 29 places higher than where its predecessor Make A Scene landed in 2011.

 

Rough Trade's US indie rock band Warpaint look to be heading for the Top 10 for the first time with their second album The Fool new at 5 in the week so far. Their debut album reached No 41 in 2010. Meanwhile, Scottish abnd Mogwai's new album Rave Tapes, released on their Rock Action label, is new at 6 as it looks to beat their previous best peak of 23 achieved by Rock Action in 2001.

 

Above the new albums, Polydor's Ellie Goulding leads the midweeks with Halycon, having dropped down to No 2 on last Sunday's chart. The album that replaced it at No 1, Columbia act Bruce Springsteen's High Hopes, is now down to 2 in the week so far, while Beyonce's self-titled RCA-handled album holds at 3.

 

James Blunt's Atlantic/Custard set Moon Landing is heading back into the Top 10 after he chatted and performed on Jonathan Ross's ITV show last Saturday. It climbs 23-7 with sales up 118%, while just outside the Top 10 Island act Keane's The Best Of rises 26-11 with sales up 158% following their performance on Graham Norton's BBC One programme last Friday.

 

Completing the Top 10 at this stage of the week, Positiva/PRMD act Avicii's True is down 6-8, Virgin band Bastille's Bad Blood drops 4-9 and Gary Barlow's Polydor-issued Since I Saw You Last slides 5-10.

 

Mike & The Mechanics have the only brand new album to chart in the midweek Top 40 outside the Top 10 positions with the Virgin-issued The Singles - 1986-2014 new at 22.
