Speechless by far, and that is only scraping 'good' territory. Ballads are really not where her strength lie.

This makes me sad. Lady Gaga has an amazing voice and she can slay any ballad she likes, she was taught to at theatre school. Not sure if you've seen her live though otherwise you won't understand.

Every Gaga ballad is an absolute 9 or 10/10 moment.

Except for 'Again Again' of course. http://i58.tinypic.com/29m1sue.png

Actually I've seen Gaga live twice and being a monster myself, her voice just isn't suited for ballads. Davidson isn't saying her voice is weak or isn't strong enough for ballads but rather the way she delivers them does the track no justice at all. Her over-singing and belting doesn't give the track a "ballad" taste at all. Artists such as Rihanna are much better at delivering them even with a weaker voice.

I have to disagree sorry. What you are saying is not facts, but a personal opinion. I know plenty of people, fans and non fans, that say Gaga should do ballads or an acoustic album because her ballad vocal is so good. Even my older family members who can't stand Gaga, watch The Monster Ball dvd with me once and were blown away by Speechless/You And I performances and wanted the songs on there phones.the same with at BTW tour fans kept saying Hair on piano, BTW piano, Princess Die and You And I were the show's highlights.

I don't know if your post came out wrong but it was if you were making a declaration that speaks for everyone instead of just yourself personally.Don't know.

Saying Rihanna is better at ballads also is very divisional, I know lots of people who says she's awful at them and has whiny voice etc. It's just personal opinion.

When Gaga does ballads, she tends to overdo it and loses alot of control and emotion. Ballads are more than someone attempting to belt out every note.

And then again I also know a lot of people who absolutely cannot stand Gaga ballads because she simply cannot handle them properly. As Regina said, the way she sings it, control and emotion is lost in the process (see Dope and Speechless) and instead of making the actual track sounding soothing and smooth, it sounds rough which goes against what a ballad is.

There IS a reason why Rihanna's ballads tend to smash compared to Gaga, who I assume has the record label to tell her NO to releasing any form of ballad in her career so far (You and I in my opinion isn't a ballad at all).

I have to jump in here also. Gaga's not all about showing off and overdoing a ballad! that you can see when she sings, the songs are so personal to her that when she does belt out you as the audience feel her pain with her. She is a superb performer especially at ballads, her vocal range is also quite impressive. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v232/korn0818/ed2305b7.png

I can understand that you can see it as overdoing it but which artist doesn't overdo ballads, the majority do. You get the Christina Perris with lullaby voices and so on. But then there's the likes of Gaga, Xtina, Beyonce who have tremendous voices and who people sometimes criticize that they oversing everything. A ballad is meant to have a climax at some point (queue oversing tag) and not be a lullaby - the same notes throughout.

Also just my personal view. http://i59.tinypic.com/1sz7mo.png

She really does not oversing, its pure passion and feeling she gives. If you were a shallow person you wouldn't get it.....but as a human being with emotions its like a rollercoaster ride she takes you on and when you relate with her emotion and lyrics you can't help but get goosebumps when she does hit the high notes / "OVERSINGS"

When she is shouty-singy you don't here her pain, you feel pain because she is turning you deaf. She also has appauling diction, Dope is a shining example.

A ballad is a slow song, it doesn't need a big note at the end or some kind of climax.

A perfect example of an artist who rarely, if ever, overdoes it is Sharon den Adel, she has a much better range than Gaga, better control, lots of emotion in her

voice and she can easily do a soft ballad or a power ballad.

Hell, even Madonna can bang out a stunning ballad without needing to oversing, Masterpiece for example.

I agree with this. It's sometimes not all about the big notes and seeing how high your range is / how varied it is, but there DOES need to be some sort of climax (be that with a build-up in the music or the singing itself) otherwise it's just a pile of monotonous shit.

Again, it comes down to personal preference. I find Madonna for example extremely monotonous on ballads, Masterpiece especially. Gaga in my opinion gives a ballad personality, 'Dope' for example her diction is obviously on-purpose, if you have seen her interviews, she describes it as one of her most personal songs ever. And she is telling a story line, hence the diction and rough notes. It is a very harsh and rough story line, if she had to sing 'Dope' with no passion or emotion/'over singing' people would go out of their way and deem it the blandfest of the album, like what happened with 'Brown Eyes' which is perfectly sung with not a single hint of over singing. Her singing on 'Dope' wouldn't co-relate with the lyrics at all, had she done the song in a soft and easier way. Her singing style is also part of her artistry, she is an extremely capable singer, she was trained for years, but she chose to be different and not sound like your everyday backing vocalist or choir girl and that's at the end of the day what's made Gaga so successful.

Dope is my favourite, followed closely by Speechless.

Oh, I forgot Speechless was a ballad.

However, I stand by it: Monster is her best ballad!

It's an electro ballad like DNA

I really like that song, but I would not call it a ballad.

'Dope' without a doubt. One of the album highlights.

'Yoü And I' is the only other one I wouldn't skip.

'Dope' for me aswell, really genuinely emotional delivery, definitely one of my favourites on ARTPOP. You & I is alright, Speechless was fab but I kinda grew tired of it and it never properly recovered for me. 'Brown Eyes' is very good but I don't find myself going back for it and I'm not really bothered about 'Again Again' at all.

Not full on ballad, but it's an electronic ballad like DNA!

What else would it be if not a ballad? :P
