I've said it before but "Do I Wanna Know?"'s chart run would have been ridiculous were streaming included. Even without it's pretty impressive.

& 809. The Saturdays - Not Giving Up (6 April 2014) :P

Was about to accuse you of getting this wrong and saying it's not a pre order cos it's a post-album single. Now I've just checked iTunes and Not Giving Up has indeed been made "album only".

They really are desperate aren't they.

I also didn't realise that they were putting 'Not Giving Up' on pre-order. You gotta love The Sats' desperation to get high charting singles

Never has a song title been more appropriate LOL

Ellie Goulding did this with 'How Long Will I Love You' too, I guess that was pretty desperate as well.

Yay for Kylie appearing :D

Faul/Wad Ad and Klingande disappeared though completely :(

Why?

as it's ensuring another high chart placing. High charting placings usually = more publicity, better rep, closer to beating records etc. letting it drown in the bottom end of the chart isn't going to be very well received by the public, their management nor by people who already deem them to be "flops" or "over".

I wouldn't call it "pretty desperate" to be honest I'd call it "pretty sensible".

Those two things aren't mutually exclusive. It is sensible in terms of strategy to get a high charting single, but the fact they care enough about that to go to these lengths to manipulate the song's chart position is still desperate. Especially after they have managed legitimate post-album top 10 hits before.

Well it was really. I don't know if the fact it was for charity had anything to do with it though. Apparently she is releasing 'Flashlight' as a single and that is also album-only on 'Halcyon Days' though, so I'm inclined to say it didn't.

I would call it rather sensible but desperate at the same time. If 'Not Giving Up' fails I doubt The Saturdays' would be provided with more radio support - making it album only increases the album sales and allows them to have another top 5 / 10.

Oh please, Not Giving Up would be number 1 for half a century even if it was released OA/OS, they're just sealing its fate at the summit :P
I do think for an act like The Saturdays this is a pretty good idea though, I can only imagine in this day and age they would totally struggle with a post album single release.

I definitely think How Long Will I Love You being made album-only was down to the fact it's a charity single. If people cherry picked it from the album, it's unlikely any of the profits of that would've gone to Children In Need, hence the separate single. Goodness Gracious wasn't album-only so I definitely wouldn't say it's desperation.

It's fair enough with The Saturdays also, they do rely on their high peaks more than anything. It's just how post-album singles were released in the pre-download era.

It is sensible. Two of their highest selling singles (Higher and Ego) were post-album singles that only charted at 9 or 10, if they'd done a similar strategy as this, it'd have been a very different story.

But why would they struggle now when they had success with ones like Higher, Issues, Ego in the past? With their songs it's mainly seems down to the airplay they get.

Kylie has been there for a while. She was 700ish a couple of days ago.

She needs a performance to really give it a kickstart, a la Can't Rely on You.
