Ah thank god it doesn't count from this week. I don't want it to happen at all though.

So 100 streams = 1 single sale.

But does that included free streaming as well as paid streaming?

I'm all for streaming counting towards the Chart, but certifications too? That's a terrible idea. Certs should reflect actual sales.
So even if a song is streamed a million times, that's only 10k sales. Shouldn't impact the top end that much at all, good good.
Can one person leave a song on repeat on their spotfiy all day though, to get those steam-sales? Or is it capped?

Good to know the weighting, and that it won't have TOO much of an impact. Even at their peak Rather Be and Waves would have only had an extra 15k 'sales' per week. I'd have died if it was something like 10:1

Probably won't stop the one weeker trend because the songs debuting at No.1 recently generally tend to outsell the No.2 records by 2:1.

Not too bad, but I would prefer separate certifications for streams, rather than be merged with sales.
I can just see it now Waves will be #1 the first week

i wouldn't be so sure the no1 on just spotify often tops 1 million streams in a week ~ once you add streams from all these sites they'll add up ^_^

Assuming it's still getting 1 million streams a week that will be an extra 10k 'sales' to add to its total of what will probably be about 18-20k by that week. Does 28-30k sound like enough for No.1 to you? :P

One person playing a 4 minute song on repeat for an entire week would be 2,520 plays which equates to 25 sales. Completely negligible impact.

100 streams to 1 sale seems like a pretty fair ratio and it shouldn't have a terribly big impact on the chart, didn't someone calculate how the chart would look if streams were included like this a while ago and there was barely any difference?

All in all this seems like a good move and hopefully shouldn't lead to the chart becoming as slow as the Hot 100. A bit of a shame for the chart to cease being a pure sales chart for the first time in its history but streaming is increasingly the way people are consuming music and it's still a perfectly legitimate measure of popularity in the same way as sales are, so it's good for the OCC to include it really.

So, when is airplay being added? :D

Unless the OCC are functionally retarded, never.

Not a fan of this as I've said before but at least it shouldn't change it too much if it's 100:1. Big shame about the certifications though. I hope we still get a separate sales chart.

Anyway, the rumours that this topic was created in light of actually happened, take note Haus :kink:

I'm beginning to think they are :(

The download chart is fairly close to the official chart anyway. They should just remove it and have a sales chart instead, physicals won't make that much impact anyway.

@JackSargeson1 Yes, both streams and sales will be given out separately.

@RobinJuanPersie Changes in record labels' release strategies once streaming counts towards the chart will also have an effect. Stay tuned!

@seanieb1983 @JoePassmore Streams will be, and already are, capped to prevent chart rigging.

Jackers getting in on the action I see :D

happily I'll be out the country the day the sales chart dies. 6th July is the date the chart becomes a music industry construct. No other way of describing it cos sales are pretty healthy historically, singles-wise, and recording how often people to choose to listen to a record is just ludicrous. More of a help to advertisers than music lovers....

I look forward to seeing records that have sold a million and been around for 6 months going back up the 6th July chart, not to mention Radioactive popping back in 18MONTHS after first charting and hitting my personal number one. Yawwwwwn.
