March 10, 201411 yr Happy could even topple Evergreen's 1.80M to become the biggest seller of the century, whereas Blurred Lines is looking like it won't get to that level for a few years at least. I have nothing against Evergreen but it would be nice for something non-reality to take over that accolade.
March 13, 201411 yr No, more like 700k away. I assume mowino was talking about how far it is from 'Blurred Lines', not Will Young.
March 14, 201411 yr I would like if Happy outsold Blurred Lines, i wouldnt be a fan of either song but happy is more bearable.
March 22, 201411 yr Hmmm, I don't hate Happy but the thought that it could become the biggest song of the century feels wrong to me. I know Evergreen hardly deserves the title either but at least there were big reasons behind the huge sales.
July 10, 201410 yr Author It looks like Happy has outsold Blurred Lines, partly due to streaming but I'm sure it will overtake on pure sales if it hasn't done so already. So with streaming added to sales, I make "Happy" on 'chart sales' of approx. 1,760,000. It has jumped from 3-1 on the Top 50 of the decade and replaced "Blurred Lines" (which falls to #2 on 'chart sales' of 1,654,421). The next question is will Happy pass the 2 million mark? It's still going strong in the chart so it could possibly become the eighth song to pass 2 million units, following Mull of Kintyre, Rivers of Babylon, You're the One That I Want, Relax, Do They Know It's Christmas, Bohemian Rhapsody and Candle in the Wind '97. It only needs another ~250k to make it so I think it is possible.
July 10, 201410 yr Happy looks pretty certain to pass 2 million points imo. I reckon some other songs will manage it too.
July 10, 201410 yr i'd be very surprised if happy doesn't clear the 2m mark before the end of 2014 now~
July 11, 201410 yr Not surprised it's out sold Blurred Lines, but I did personally get a bit fed up of it quite quickly, although I obviously appear to be in the minority!
July 11, 201410 yr I can't stand Happy now. It makes me want to vom and I loved it at first. Glad I never bought it. It's just been everywhere for 6 months at least.
