So we had one of these threads for 2013, let's have a super late one for 2014.

Naughty Boy and Disclosure are already on the verge of breaking through (or at least having a hit) with 'La La La' entering the Hot 100 this week and 'Latch' not far outside. The 1975 have also broken the Hot 100 with 'Chocolate' in the past few weeks and are slowly climbing up some more. What other British acts do we think could make some waves with at least one song over the course of the next year?

I'm thinking that Clean Bandit's 'Rather Be' has been too big in the UK for the USA to ignore it so I'm certain it'll get a push and become a hit there at some point. Rudimental could finally make some sort of break through this year too although there is a bit of a feeling that they would have done so by now already if they were going to.

I agree that 'Rather Be' is likely to do well.

I'm going to stick my neck out and say that Rixton's 'Me And My Broken Heart' will be a big U.S hit. It just sounds like it'd be eaten up by pop radio if given a good push.

I feel that Sam Smith is being primed for the U.S, what with 'Latch' and 'La La La' beginning to take off, which will generate buzz (I hate this word) about him. The way he is marketed lends itself well to the U.S, I feel, and the fact that the 'Money On My Mind' video was filmed in Vegas indicates the label's intentions for bigger things IMO. However, presuming they lead with 'Money On My Mind', I don't think it's strong enough to become a big U.S hit.

I know Katy B is heading to America soon (not sure if it's for writing purposes or what) so I'd love 'Crying For No Reason' to catch on. Wishful thinking allows me to envision a 'Lights' situation, so perhaps she'll be one to watch in 2015 :P.

It's already been delivered to US pop stations. All it needs now is a radio adds date/release date in the US. :D

I hope we can see some surprise breakthroughs in the US. Would love it if Katy B were to somehow make a dent in the US charts. ^_^

I would have thought Paloma Faith would give it a shot, if the album does decently though. She could sell quite a few albums in the US I imagine.

I meant to reply to this thread last week but it was started at the worst possible time :(

To be honest I'm not sure how much I expect from Naughty Boy and Disclosure. 'La La La' seems like it'll stall to me (iTunes isn't leading airplay, which is never a good sign) whereas 'Latch' is impressing me slightly more for its amount of airplay but just seems limited in appeal. In any case if it smashes I can't see them following it up well (though I really wish they would!).

Paloma... certainly has the right song in 'Can't Rely On You'. She got some adult contemporary airplay with 'Picking Up The Pieces' last year but nothing major came of it. Still I wouldn't count her out, CROY seems like the sort of "wait that was really a hit? huh?" random thing that we're a while overdue - haven't had one since 'Want U Back' really.

I know they've already broken through but I can honestly see Bastille going from strength to strength in the US. There's a mini Mumford & Sons in them imo.

Wondering if Neon Jungle could get a minor hit if they're pushed? Trouble did very well just off the back of being used on some show last year, and Braveheart is an even more obvious hit, so if they gave it a proper push here then it could do quite well I think. As long as they don't cock it up like The Saturdays did with What About Us and its radio add date.
The vamps have a decent shot as their airplay is very strong here

Won't they have rather stiff competition in One Direction though? :o

Wild Heart got off to a good start when released a couple of weeks back! If airplay catches on then I can see it going top 50. Here's hoping!

Paloma's pretty popular in San Francisco. Not too sure about the rest of England.

I'm surprised they haven't released Rebecca Ferguson's second LP out there yet as the first was a moderate success.

Well it's possible they'll release it later, her first album was released a good few months after its UK release and she isn't really established enough for a Q4 American release. It's worth releasing imo, I was really impressed by how well her first album did over there.

Birdy's label is trying to push Skinny Love. Currently top 50 on Hot AC but with tiny increases.

I wouldn't mind if it picks up, especially if it leads to Wings being released!

Alexandra Burke will reveal her label news this month and she seems to be in good hands and will release material in the US

I'm not sure if she'll make it tho as the snippets we've heard so far seems quite weak

From what's been happening on iTunes I think Birdy is going to happen

I don't however think there's any chance of this  Frankly I'm surprised Alex hasn't realised how slim her chances are at this stage, I can't remember the last time even her fans liked anything she put out.

That's why I said I wasn't sure

She's got a good team behind her so if the music is great, she does have a chance

If it's anything like the EP she'll flop massively

I remember reading an article on them at Billboard, and thinking "no chance"

But their "Me and My Broken Heart EP" is #75 on the US iTunes albums chart.

Nope. I think they may have a potential trans-Atlantic hit on their hands with 'Me and My Broken Heart' though.
