'Aotearoa' is apparently the first Maori-language hit in New Zealand (and presumably anywhere) for 30 years. Would have been cool to see it at #1.

So weird to see a Voice Australia performance in the chart, and higher than any of them charted there this year :lol:

Haha. The Voice Australia airs on Friday nights on TV2 and rates quite decently there apparently. Funny how they don't have their own local version but after TVNZ spectacularly failed with NZ Idol (the third and final season winner didn't even get a record deal, I think. Sony dropped the show after the first two winners pretty much flopped :D ), I think they are hesitant to take a shot at it. TV3 (TVNZ rival) did a season of NZ X Factor but that won't be coming back, I think.

I'm surprised, I thought Jackie Thomas and Benny Tipene did well! (though I don't know if the former ever released more than 1 song)

I'm not sure about ratings, but winner Jackie Thomas hit #1 with both her winner's single (an original song) and winner's album, and 3rd place Benny Tipene has had fairly long-running #2, #15 and #24 singles and a #4 album, and a minor Australia crossover. 2nd place Whenua Patuwai also had a short-lived top 3 single apparently, and has a current top 5 album of soul covers.

It did good in NZ ratings and would have warranted another season. However in NZ, their renewal process can sometimes be a lot more complicated for some shows (ie. if MediaWorks are prepared to invest more money, if the show has durable enough sponsors/if they will stick around for the next season etc). So, it was puzzling to not see it in the lineup. Even when I went on the upfront site, they were announcing how the international version of the show was coming back and no mention of the local one.

 

As for the alumni from season 1, Benny did well and Jackie did great for her winner's songs and album. It sure as hell is better than what any of the contestants from NZ Idol can pull back 10 years ago!!! Aside from the winner's single, they were not heard of again!!! Season 1 winner Ben got 4x Platinum and 7 weeks at number 1 with his winner's song. Only when his actual song was released, radio refused to play it (because the song was too crap)!!! :lol: :lol: :lol:

That drop for ‘Bang Bang’ is a bit much! It could certainly recover though. ‘Que Sera’ randomly peaks in its 11th week but I’m surprised the song hasn’t mirrored its Australian success. Also worth noting that The Script have a 20-40-30 run so far.

This seems to be the highest position Taylor has managed with 'Shake It Off' worldwide so far according to acharts.us - only 5 charts have been announced with its position so far though so it could still be #1 somewhere.

 

Random INXS re-entries, assuming there was some sort of TV programme about them.

There was a two part drama about them on Australian TV in February or something like that, which I only know about because Samantha Jade played Kylie in it but still, I think at the time Never Tear Us Apart charted at #11ish and one of their albums charted really highly and stuck around for ages. That's all I can think of, I'm thinking maybe they showed that way later than they did in Australia or they repeated it.
