Posted March 12, 201411 yr [Leaving aside 50's ballads & other pre-R&R era chart-toppers - they are too obvious choices.] I'll start the ball rolling with 'Kenny Rogers - Lucille'

March 12, 201411 yr It seems to me that it would be easier to pick out number 1s from the past that would STILL be a hit now rather than vice versa.
March 12, 201411 yr It seems to me that it would be easier to pick out number 1s from the past that would STILL be a hit now rather than vice versa. Pretty much this. About 90% of the past #1s I couldnt see being chart toppers now. Edited March 12, 201411 yr by Euphorique
March 12, 201411 yr Funnily enough, I think Baz Luhrmann's Sunscreen is one of the songs that COULD still be a #1 had it come out now. It's so standout and timeless, it often returns to the iTunes top 40/50 off the back of one play, so had it come out fresh this year with full promo and Radio 1 a-listing I see no reason why it couldn't be huge now. Genres come and go in the charts so it's pretty hard to pinpoint what would be big when, it depends on the public mood a lot. There's no way in hell that My Love and Look Right Through would have been #1's in 2005/6, but in 1999/2000 they could have feasibly been, as that's when the house genre was last this big.
March 12, 201411 yr If Ant & Dec could get to no.1 last year, then I'm sure anything could get to no.1 now. Maybe even Teletubbies Say Eh Oh

I hate that record, I never understood how it reached #1

March 12, 201411 yr Almost any song that has been number 1 before would be number 1 again if given the huge television exposure of reality tv - would anyone agree with this statement?
March 12, 201411 yr Or Mr. Blobby and how about Turtle Power by Partners in Kryme lol If "Everything Is Awesome" could be a hit I don't see why not (with the proper promotion of course)
