May 3, 201411 yr And let's not forget that Beyonce released her album during the Christmas period. I don't think such release would work before October. Adele slayage ain't seasonal.
May 3, 201411 yr I still think it's too soon after Beyonce for any artist to pull this off, and certainly avoid criticism for doing so. What sort of criticism do you mean?
May 3, 201411 yr I assume he means for copying Beyonce. He could mean that, but the action by Beyoncé's record company (releasing the album exclusive to iTunes) upset many download sites. So much so that only iTunes and Amazon carry the download version of the album. I don't think that Amazon stock the CD version at all. Play.com, HMV/7 digital, Sainsbury's don't stock even the download version. Such action must have had a damaging sales effect. Even though the album did sell well. It certainly will stop any track from the album reaching the top of the singles chart. It wouldn't be a clever thing to do again, since you risk having a boycott on sales. And in these days of poor album sales that's a big risk to take. Yes I was wrong on MJ, but unless someone has some evidence that's it still going to happen, I think we need to put a rest to the story :coffee:
May 3, 201411 yr Isn't this over now? Billboard reported that Mariah was planning to do exactly what Beyoncé did but changed her mind, so I'm pretty sure that's what the OP of this thread was referring to. They jumped the gun reporting it.
May 5, 201411 yr I read that the Mariah's record company are the ones who put the brakes on her plan. Whether it's because she never got their permission in the first place, or because she ruined the surprise element of it by announcing it in advance, I don't know.
May 5, 201411 yr I think it's Nicki Minaj. She's refusing to give the album release date and keeps giving ambiguous responses. Why cant u just enjoy the ride? If it's 1 thing I do well... It's ride > RT @Adoptedbyonika: Why you being selfish with the date rn Nic?!😭😭 When the moon next leaves footprints across the sky > RT @onikapride: @NICKIMINAJ when will #ThePinkPrint be released?👀 I'm thirsty” She also retweeted a tweet asking if she knew the release date, but was just not telling us. She knows, it now a case of whether she cannot tell us because it's a surprise release, or she's simply just not ready to tell us.
May 5, 201411 yr I think it's funny you guys think anyone besides Adele can pull off a successful surprise release like Beyoncé's
May 5, 201411 yr Because Adele is the only pop girl with fans :drama: LOL, as if being a pop girl with fans is enough to have an album debut and strategy like what Beyonce's did.
May 5, 201411 yr LOL, as if being a pop girl with fans is enough to have an album debut and strategy like what Beyonce's did. What else is needed? As far as I know the only thing you need is a rabbid fanbase and worldwide appeal, which multiple artists have. It could be Adele of course, but I think it's unlikely she'll follow this strategy since she doesn't really have the massive rabbid fanbase others seem to have Edited May 5, 201411 yr by BarbaricSissyTIM
May 5, 201411 yr It wouldn't really make sense for Adele to do this as she has wide appeal amongst a number of age ranges, or at leats moreso than Nicki Minaj and Rihanna for example, and releasing a surprise release digital only would alienate some of her older fans who are more inclined to go and buy the album from the shops (and Beyonce's album didn't get a physical release did it?) Rihanna's the only other one that could really pull off a release like this and it comes off as a surprise (though the more they drag this thing out, the less of a surprise it'll be...)

Beyonce's album did get a physical release on its second week.

You need a rabid fanbase that is willing to buy your complete album. Rihanna and the other pop girls have worldwide appeal but most of the public is only here for the singles. Especially in the US, which is the main market. Edited May 7, 201411 yr by André
May 29, 201411 yr Author Fresh details :o WE LOVE SURPRISES. WE ALSO HATE SURPRISES: The biz is buzzing about a possible surprise release next week, with a couple of superstar acts the primary focus of the speculation. If somebody is indeed "pulling a Beyoncé," as it's come to be known, who might it be? http://www.hitsdailydouble.com/news/rumormill.cgi I really want this to be true for all the speculation/drama we've had here... So whether we get it next week or not, i'll just keep bumping the thread until someone does in fact "do a Beyoncé" and it'll all be worth it :magic:
