With some trance songs being released a few times during the decade it must be difficult to get a true figure for some of them.

And sometimes finding the version that was actually a hit is close to impossible, even online. Not only do you have different remixes/re-releases, but there's many cases of the UK getting a different mix of the track that charted everywhere else in the world in its original version - I suppose the biggest is ATB's 9pm Til I Come, with even half the music channels continuing to play the 'wrong' (outside UK) version on retro countdowns to this day.

Plus now you've got Spotify only having recently re-recorded versions of old 90s hits like Oceanic's 'Insanity'. Sometimes they're done to replace an original sample or vocal track that presumably can no longer be cleared.

Stunning double there. La Chariots Of Fire Primavera is really uplifting, all of his best material was released in 1998 for me. Mysterious Times and Move Mania were similarly brilliant.

And the JX song is an absolute classic

Mysterious Times is really amazing, but it's really special to me too. That introduced me to Tina Cousins, who I then became utterly obsessed with. Met her a few times and still have a picture she signed for me and my partner to wish us good luck for the wedding. She also sent me signed CD singles from Australia. She was huge over there.

Not that she sold enough to appear in this countdown but she had 2 top 20's as a soloist here (Pray and Killin' Time) and 2 top 10's with Sash! (Mysterious Times and Just Around The Hill). Amazing voice and she's released 2 brilliant dance albums in the UK. She's just signed another deal, so hopefully she'll have a new single out soon.

Anyhoooooo, can't remember how much Mysterious Times sold, but I'm starting to think it won't be in this chart :(

Move Mania is my favourite. Love the main riff and the filler riff.
The compilers of Now That's What I Call Music must have thought Tina Cousins was going to be huge here - they featured both 'Forever' and 'Angel' on Now 43 and Now 44 respectively even though both tracks missed the top 40.

I remember that. Forever is a tune and a half. Angel isn't one of my favourites though. Her 2nd album, Mastermind, is amazing. Shame she never really took off here.

She was signed to AATW for a while before it all went down the toilet. Although the single bombed, the video she released for her cover of Sex On Fire is absolute filth, and so naturally totally incredible

Ooft, just found the video of her doing Killin' Time on TOTP. What a song.

Forever was great. I have a copy of her cover of Wonderful Life on CD single which I believe was a big hit in Australia in the mid 00s?

Yeah it was big over there. Only made 50-something here though. That was a reworked version of the track. She'd recorded it about 10 years earlier and had been gigging it the whole time. The original version is better IMO. The instrumental was completely different and has a more trance feel, as opposed to the housey newer version.

Although I do also like the ballad version she released.

JX 'There's Nothing I Won't Do' ~ proper 90's classic!

Loving the Tori Amos remix, Sash!, and the Bucketheads.

68. I NEED YOUR LOVING (EVERYBODY’S GOTTA LEARN SOMETIME)- Baby D (297,000)

YEAR: 1995

PEAK POSITION: 3

“Updating” the 1980 Korgis hit this was Baby D’s follow up to their No 1 single “Let Me Be Your Fantasy”. The lead singer is wife of 80s popstar Phil Fearon and the keyboardist Terry Jones went on to co-write Peter Andre’s 1996 No 1 “I Feel You”- so much to thank him for!

67. CLOSER THAN CLOSE- Rosie Gains (297,000)

YEAR: 1997

PEAK POSITION: 4

It’s another tale of backing singer emerging to hit the big time herself here. Gaines was part of the New Power Generation, Prince’s backing group during the early 90s and co-wrote part of his “Diamonds & Pearls” album in 1992 and whilst she continued to work with him for the remainder of the decade, it was her 1997 release “Closer Than Close” that provided her with a massive club hit and sell almost 300k in the UK.

66. DIRTY CASH (MONEY TALKS)- Adventures Of Stevie V (302,000)

YEAR: 1990

PEAK POSITION: 2

A sole top 20 hit for the band, this was only prevented from hitting the top by Adamski’s “Killer”. It did of course see the top 10 again when Dizzee Rascal saw fit to revamp it in 2009 and in a fashion in 2010 on “You Got The Dirtee Love” which caused the track to peak at No 2 all over again!

There's Nothing I Won't do and I Need Your Loving - 2 utter classics! Shame the sales were so low for them though :(
Closer Than Close  If that was released today, that would probably still be a big hit probably selling more than it originally did in 1997. The Adventures of Stevie V still sounds amazing too! :D

Love the last two songs! Admittedly have only become aware of them due to more recent tracks sampling them though - obviously Dizzee Rascal for 'Dirty Cash' and slightly less obviously this MNEK remix of 'Closer Than Close' that 1Xtra used to play sometimes:

Three more brilliant 90's classics there!
Nice to see Stevie V in there amongst the late 90s tosh. 'The Bomb' is also a great tune, but not much else to shout about in the latest batch this weekend.

Agree. But "Pray" remains far and away her best song (it so deserved to be top 5)
