Christ on a bike, why? Pound for pound they're probably the two best Disney films out there. Pinocchio is a masterclass in animation, features the key Disney song 'When You Wish Upon a Star' and is beautifully drawn throughout. The Jungle Book has the best songs and arguably the funniest scene in any Disney film with the elephant line-up.

Well, if you lot think there are 11 better Disney films than Pinocchio then fair enough...but there aren't. I'm also amazed that Peter Pan is that high up as, the pirate scenes aside, it's actually one of the weakest Disney films of the early era.

My support now switches to Lady and the Tramp. Although that'll probably come in at 10.

Each to their own, I find Pinocchio rather boring tbh and I also don't think the song is particularly special, the message of the film is probably the best thing about it imo.

I really like Jungle Book, but I don't think it is amazing, its funny but it never made me want to play it again and again.

I think I've always been more inclined towards the Disney films with a female/Princess lead though tbh

Through a textual prologue told via a storybook, Snow White is a princess living with her stepmother, a vain and wicked Queen who is assumed to have taken over the kingdom after the death of Snow White's mother and father. Fearing Snow White's beauty surpassing her own, the Queen forced her to work as a scullery maid and asked her Magic Mirror daily "who is the fairest one of all". For several years the mirror always answered that the Queen was, pleasing her.

At the film's opening, the Magic Mirror informs the Queen that Snow White is now the fairest in the land. The jealous Queen orders a reluctant huntsman to take Snow White into the forest and kill her. She further demands that the huntsman return with Snow White's heart in a jeweled box as proof of the deed. The huntsman encounters Snow White but decides not to harm her. He tearfully begs for her forgiveness, revealing the Queen wants her dead, and urges her to flee into the woods and never come back, bringing back a pig's heart instead.

Lost and frightened, the princess is befriended by woodland creatures who lead her to a cottage deep in the woods. Finding seven small chairs in the cottage's dining room, Snow White assumes the cottage is the untidy home of seven orphaned children. It soon becomes apparent that the cottage belongs instead to seven adult dwarfs, Doc, Grumpy, Happy, Sleepy, Bashful, Sneezy, and Dopey, who work in a nearby mine. Returning home, they are alarmed to find their cottage clean and suspect that an intruder has invaded their home. The dwarfs find Snow White upstairs, asleep across three of their beds. Snow White awakes to find the Dwarfs at her bedside and introduces herself, and all of the dwarfs eventually welcome her into their home after they learn she can cook and clean beautifully. Snow White cooks, cleans, and keeps house for the dwarfs while they mine for jewels and at night sing, play music and dance.

Meanwhile, the Queen discovers that Snow White is still alive when the mirror again answers that Snow White is the fairest in the land. Using magic to disguise herself as an old hag, the Queen creates a poisoned apple that will put whoever eats it into the "Sleeping Death". The Evil Queen explains that Snow White would collapse into a magical sleep if she were to take even a single bite of the apple. The sleep can only be cured by the power of "love's first kiss". The Queen reasons that this is no danger to her plans, as the dwarfs would not be able to awaken Snow White, and would think she was dead, thus resulting in Snow White being buried alive. The Queen goes to the cottage while the dwarfs are away and tricks Snow White into biting into the poisoned apple. As Snow White falls asleep the Queen proclaims that she will be the fairest of the land. The vengeful dwarfs, alerted by the woodland animals who recognize her, chase the Queen up a cliff and trap her. She tries to roll a boulder over them but before she can do so, lightning strikes the cliff, causing her to fall to her death.

The dwarfs return to their cottage and find Snow White seemingly dead, being kept in a deathlike slumber by the potion. Unwilling to bury her out of sight in the ground, they instead place her in a glass coffin trimmed with gold in a clearing in the forest. Together with the woodland creatures, they keep watch over her in an "eternal vigil". After some time, a prince, who had previously met and fallen in love with Snow White, learns of her eternal sleep and visits her coffin. Saddened by her apparent death, he kisses her, which breaks the spell and awakens her. The dwarfs and animals all rejoice as the Prince takes Snow White to his castle, which glows in the presence of Snow White.

Ariel, a sixteen-year-old mermaid princess, is dissatisfied with life under the sea and curious about the human world. With her best fish friend Flounder, Ariel collects human artifacts and goes to the surface of the ocean to visit Scuttle the seagull, who offers very inaccurate knowledge of human culture. She ignores the warnings of her father King Triton and his adviser Sebastian that contact between merpeople and humans is forbidden, longing to join the human world and become a human herself.

One night, Ariel, Flounder and an unwilling Sebastian travel to the ocean surface to watch a celebration for the birthday of Prince Eric on a ship, with whom Ariel falls in love. In the ensuing storm the ship is destroyed and Ariel saves the unconscious Eric from drowning. Ariel sings to him, but quickly leaves as soon as he regains consciousness to avoid being discovered. Fascinated by the memory of her voice, Eric vows to find who saved and sang to him, and Ariel vows to find a way to join him and his world. Noticing a change in Ariel's behavior, Triton questions Sebastian about her behavior and learns of her love for Eric. In frustration, Triton confronts Ariel in her grotto, where she and Flounder store human artifacts, and destroys most of the objects with his trident and ends up hurting her feelings. After Triton leaves, a pair of eels, Flotsam and Jetsam, convince Ariel to visit Ursula the sea witch in order to be with Eric.

Ursula makes a deal with Ariel to transform her into a human for three days in exchange for Ariel's voice, which Ursula puts in a nautilus shell. Within these three days, Ariel must receive the "kiss of true love" from Eric; otherwise, she will transform back into a mermaid and belong to Ursula. Despite her claims that she's doing this out of the kindness of her heart, Ursula is plotting to use Ariel as a bargaining chip to challenge Triton's right to rule. Ariel is then given human legs and taken to the surface by Flounder and Sebastian. Eric finds Ariel on the beach and takes her to his castle, unaware that she had saved his life earlier, assuming her to be a mute shipwreck survivor. Ariel spends time with Eric, and at the end of the second day, they almost kiss but are thwarted by Flotsam and Jetsam. Angered at their narrow escape, Ursula disguises herself as a beautiful young woman named Vanessa and appears onshore singing with Ariel's voice. Eric recognizes the song and, in her disguise, Ursula casts a hypnotic enchantment on Eric to make him forget about Ariel.

The next day, Ariel finds out that Eric will be married to the disguised Ursula. Scuttle discovers that Vanessa is actually Ursula in disguise, and informs Ariel who immediately goes after the wedding barge. Sebastian informs Triton, and Scuttle disrupts the wedding with the help of various animals. In the chaos, the nautilus shell around Ursula's neck is broken, restoring Ariel's voice and breaking Ursula's enchantment over Eric. Realizing that Ariel had saved his life, Eric rushes to kiss her, but the sun sets and Ariel transforms back into a mermaid. Ursula reveals herself and kidnaps Ariel. Furious, Triton confronts Ursula and demands that she release Ariel, but the deal is inviolable. At Ursula's urging, the king agrees to take Ariel's place as Ursula's prisoner. Ariel is released as Triton transforms into a polyp and loses his authority over Atlantica, and Ursula declares herself the new ruler. In frustration, Ariel confronts Ursula and lunges at her. Ursula is about to use the trident destroy her, but Eric throws a harpoon at her and saves Ariel. Just as Ursula attempts to destroy Eric, Ariel attacks Ursula, who accidentally destroys Flotsam and Jetsam. In her rage, Ursula uses the trident to grow into monstrous proportions.

Ariel and Eric reunite on the surface just before Ursula grows past and towers over the two. She then gains full control of the entire ocean, creating a storm with a maelstrom that causes shipwrecks, one of which Eric commandeers. Just as Ursula attempts to destroy Ariel who is trapped in the maelstrom, Eric kills Ursula by running her through the abdomen with the ship's splintered bowsprit. Ursula's power breaks, causing Triton and all the other polyps in Ursula's garden to revert into their original forms. Realizing that Ariel truly loves Eric, Triton willingly changes her from a mermaid into a human. Ariel and Eric marry on a ship and depart.

The movie got followed by a stage production, which is played in The Netherlands, The Phillipines, Russia and Japan and on Broadway.

An enchantress, disguised as an old beggar, offers a prince a rose in exchange for shelter in his castle from the cold. The prince refuses out of selfishness. In response, the enchantress transforms him into a beast and his servants into household items. She gives him a magic mirror that enables him to view faraway events, along with the enchanted rose that she had offered. In order to break the curse, the prince must learn to love another and earn her love in return before the rose's last petal falls. If he fails, he will remain a beast forever.

10 years later, a French bookworm named Belle is bored of her village and seeks excitement. Due to her non-conformity, she is ousted by everyone but her father Maurice and an arrogant, muscular hunter named Gaston. Despite other women fawning over him and many man admiring him, he is determined to marry Belle. Even though she repeatedly rejects his advances.

Maurice and his horse Phillipe get lost in the woods while traveling to a fair to present his wood-chopping machine. After being chased by a pack of wolves, he comes across the Beast's castle. Inside, he meets Lumière the candlestick, Cogsworth the clock, Mrs. Potts the teapot, and her son Chip the teacup. However, the Beast quickly finds and imprisons Maurice. After Phillipe leads Belle to the Beast's castle, she offers to take her father's place. The Beast accepts the offer despite Maurice's objections. While Gaston sulks over Belle's rejection, Maurice returns to town and unconvincingly asks for help to rescue Belle from the Beast.

The Beast angrily refuses to let Belle have any dinner that night after she refuses to dine with him. Despite this, Lumière offers her a meal. While he and Cogsworth also give her a tour of the castle, she wanders into the forbidden West Wing. After the beast chasing her away where she encounters a pack of wolves in the nearby forest, the Beast is injured after fending them off. She thanks him for saving her life. He begins to develop feelings for her while she nurses his wounds and delights her by showing his extensive library. While the two begin to bond, Gaston pays Monsieur d'Arque to send Maurice to the town's insane asylum if Belle refuses Gaston's proposal again.

While sharing a romantic evening together, Belle tells the Beast she misses her father. He lets her use his magic mirror to see him. She sees Maurice dying in the woods trying to rescue her. The Beast lets her go out to save him and he gives her the mirror to remember him by. She finds Maurice and brings him home. As Gaston is about to bring Maurice to the insane asylum, Belle proves Maurice's sanity by showing the Beast with the magic mirror. Realizing Belle loves the Beast, Gaston convinces the townspeople that the Beast is a man-eating monster and leads them to the castle to kill him. He confines Belle and Maurice to their basement.

Having stowed away into Belle's baggage, Chip manages to free them. Gaston confronts the beast while the servants fend off the villagers. The Beast initially is too depressed to fight back, though perks up after seeing Belle return to the castle. He battles and defeats Gaston in battle on the rooftops, though spares his life by ordering him to leave. Gaston stabs him from behind as the Beast reunited with Belle. Gaston loses his balance in the process and falls to his death. Before the Beast dies, Belle announces she loves him just before the last rose petal falls. With the spell broken, the Beast comes back to life, and he and his servants are restored back to their human form. Belle dances with him in the ballroom.

In the Pride Lands of Africa, a lion rules over the animals as king. The birth of son Simba to King Mufasa and Queen Sarabi creates envy and resentment in Mufasa's younger brother, Scar, who knows his nephew now replaces him as heir to the throne.

After Simba has grown into a young cub, Mufasa gives him a tour of the domain, teaching him the responsibilities of being a king and the circle of life. Later that day, Scar tricks Simba and his best friend Nala into exploring a forbidden elephant graveyard, despite the protests of Mufasa's hornbill majordomo Zazu. At the graveyard, the spotted hyenas Shenzi, Banzai and Ed attack the cubs before Mufasa, alerted by Zazu, rescues them. As they heading home, Mufasa sends Zazu away by escorting Nala home and then lectures Simba on his disobedience. Simba says he was only trying to be brave like him. Mufasa tells him that being brave isn't the same as looking for trouble and admits to Simba that his stunt scared him, which is Simba is surprised to hear as his father never seemed to be afraid of anything. The two then playfully roll around in the grass and Simba asks his dad if they'll always be together. Mufasa then tells Simba to look up at the stars and explains that they are the kings of the past, always watching down on them. He also tells him that whenever he feels alone, the kings will be there to guide him as will he. Later that same night, the hyenas, who are allied with Scar, plot with him to kill Mufasa and Simba.

The next day Scar lures Simba to a gorge and tells him to wait there while he gets Mufasa. On Scar's orders, the hyenas stampede a large herd of wildebeest into the gorge. Mufasa rescues Simba, but as Mufasa tries to climb up the gorge's walls, Scar throws him back into the stampede, where he is trampled to death. After Simba finds Mufasa's body, Scar convinces him he was responsible for his father's death and advises Simba to flee the kingdom. As Simba leaves, Scar orders the hyenas to kill the cub, but Simba escapes. Scar announces to the other lions that both Mufasa and Simba were killed in the stampede and steps forward as the new king, allowing a pack of hyenas to live in the Pride Lands.
After running far away, Simba collapses from exhaustion in a desert. Timon and Pumbaa, a meerkat and a warthog, find him and nurse him back to health. Simba subsequently grows up with them in the jungle, living a carefree life with his friends under the motto "hakuna matata" ("no worries").

When he is a young adult, Simba rescues Timon and Pumbaa from a hungry lioness, who turns out to be Nala. She and Simba reconcile and fall in love. Nala urges Simba to return home, telling him the Pride Lands have become a wasteland with not enough food and water. Feeling guilty over his father's death, Simba refuses and storms off, leaving Nala disappointed and angry.

As Simba enters the jungle, he encounters Mufasa's mandrill friend and advisor, Rafiki. Rafiki tells Simba that Mufasa is "alive" and takes him to a pond and tells him to look into the water. Simba does, but only sees reflection. Rafiki tells him to look harder and touches the water. Simba's reflection then changes into Mufasa's face with Rafiki telling him that "he lives in you." Simba then hears Mufasa call out his name and looks up into the sky to see his father's ghost. Mufasa tells him that Simba has forgotten who he is and that he is more than what he has become and it's time for him to take his place in the circle of life. Simba asks how he can go back if he's not who he used to be. Mufasa tells him to remember he is, his son and the one true king and then vanishes. Simba realizes he can no longer run from his past and goes home. Nala, Timon, and Pumbaa join him, and agree to help him fight.

At the Pride Lands, Simba confronts Scar, who taunts Simba over his "part" in Mufasa's death. But when Scar pushes Simba to the edge of Pride Rock, he admits he himself killed Mufasa. Enraged, Simba roars back up and forces Scar to reveal the truth to the other lions. Timon, Pumbaa, Rafiki, Zazu, and the lionesses fend off the hyenas while Scar, attempting to escape, is cornered by Simba at the top of Pride Rock. Scar begs Simba for mercy, saying he is family and placing the blame on the hyenas. Simba says he does not believe Scar anymore, but spares his life, stating that he is not like him and commands him to forever leave the Pride Lands. Scar meekly walks past him, but then attacks his nephew. After a fierce battle, Simba throws his uncle off Pride Rock. Scar survives the fall, but is attacked and killed by the hyenas, who overheard his attempt to betray them.

With Scar and the hyenas gone, Simba comes down from the top of Pride Rock, the battle finally over. As he is reunited with his mother and Nala, Rafiki summons him over. He bows to Simba who pulls him into a hug and then tells him that "it's time". With everyone watching, Simba walks to the top of Pride Rock and looks up to the sky, the clouds parting revealing the stars and once again hears Mufasa telling him to remember. Simba then lets out a triumphant roar, declaring his place as king as the lionesses join in. Sometime later, with Pride Rock restored to its former glory and Simba happily looks down at his kingdom with Nala, Timon, and Pumbaa by his side. Rafiki presents Simba and Nala's newborn cub to the inhabitants of the Pride Lands and the "circle of life" continues.

The movie spawned 2 sequels, The Lion King II: Simba’s Pride and The Lion ing 1 ½ or 3, a spin off series for Timon and Pumbaa. It is the 3rd highest grossing animated movie ever and the 2nd by Disney.
Even years later the movie is still in high demand as was shown when it was remade for 3D and topped the box offices during its 2 week release.

It was also formed into a stage play, which is still playing on Broadway to this date, 17 years after its original début. The musical was also brought to the UK in 1999 and is still playing in West End.
It also played in Korea, The Netherlands, Canada, South Africa, France, Taiwan, Mexico, Spainm Brazil and Ireland and is set to be released in Russia soon too.

And with that I show you the most tragic scene in Disney history. It makes me tear up every god damn time

And one of the most iconic movie songs ever!

Shame that BATB didn't win, but I can see the appeal of Lion King even if it's not for me. :o At Sleeping Beauty coming in with the second highest average.

Oops I didn't order them by average :drama:

Fixing that now

EDIT: Fixed!

All been said before for The Lion King but what a film  I believe The Lion King & Beauty & The Beast are the two highest rated Disney classics on IMDb as well!

Edited by Krusty Wombat

A spectacular top 2.

'The Lion King' is a behemoth of a film. One of those rare pieces that are perfect from start to end with every possible human emotion in abundance throughout. It *might* be because i first watched it as a youth, but watching it with my parents and seeing my dad tear up too suggests it's more than just "nostalgia". Not only one of the greatest animated films, but one of the best ever.

Thank you for doing this Tim! Such a wonderful trip down memory lane <3

Great top 2, even if I'd have preferred Beauty to win, but I'm completely bemused at how low down some of them were (Hercules!!!!).

Also, unless I'm seeing things, you haven't listed my rate for Dumbo. Will that change its position? Wasn't sure if my score was included but you'd just missed out my name when typing up the post.

08.0 Dumbo - It's heartbreaking in parts and very dark, but it's gorgeous, and because it's so short it holds up to repeat viewings easily.

You can't deny that is a pretty immense top 10.

Can't believe I only gave a 7 to 101 Dalmatians.

Peter Pan and The Jungle Book outside the Top 10? Pah! Candidates for number one Disney film of all-time, say I... B-)
The top 41 by averages is so much more fair given the number of non-rates for many of the films by lots of posters. I'm going to claim THAT as the real results.

Me two, even if it means Peter Pan and Alice in Wonderland are even lower

Amazing countdown, thanks Tim. Not surprised at ALL that 'Lion King' won! Very deserved. I don't know why I rated 'Beauty & The Beast', 'Bambi' or 'The Lady & The Tramp' as I haven't seen them in YEARS (like years and years/pre-teen!) so I can barely remember them. I think I liked them all though. 'Frozen', 'Snow White' & 'The Little Mermaid' are obviously the best princess-y films for me. 'Pinocchio', 'Dumbo' and 'Wreck-It Ralph' are all ridiculously underrated. Well, maybe not 'Dumbo' but in general it is.
