Wait, MNEK's Every Little Word has already been released‽ Might not do as well as I imagined then :(

144. Coldplay - Midnight (Giorgio Moroder Remix)

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO GOOD!

Do you like the remix in question?

Is this Dance Domination ever going to end?

Hopefully not for a while yet.

I know everyone's entitled to their own musical preference, but I'm really puzzled by some of the recent comments on here insinuating that the latest trend of dance songs shouldn't be considered "music", because of the lack of lyrical content or whatever reason.

I personally think the charts at the moment are the most exciting they've been in a very long time, and I'm happy that there's genuine big dance songs that are hitting the top end of the charts, as oppose to the dance music of the mid 00's (a few lines from an 80's song repeatably looped to a beat. ala 'Call On Me', Out Of Touch'), or R&B/dance hybrid songs (Taio Cruz, Dizzee Rascal etc.)

I think the recent dance domination in the charts has been a long time coming and makes a nice change as oppose to X Factor acts, and carbon copy female singers that a lot of members seem to obsess over on this forum (Pixie Lott, Little Mix, Jessie J to name but a few) :puke2:

It's just a shame that the songs aren't released a lot earlier, rather than losing sales during their pre-order period, but that obviously goes for all held back releases.

Calvin Harris for No.1 next week.

Agreed. Welcome to the forum!

Welcome to the forum Jay!

I don't agree lots of people are insinuating that the latest dance invention can't be called music. Surely it's the vast minority?

But the fact is that the big names have vanished from the UK chart. The only really BIG name in the iTunes top-10 is Coldplay, and they got there on the album pre-orders. Maybe John Legend too but he was barely selling in the UK before, Ordinary People aside.

You'd be hard-pessed finding a Jessie J devotee here, I think (thankfully) :P. Great first post by the way!

Hopefully not for a while yet.

Welcome Jay :)

Quite strong in opinions I see ;) I do agree that the dance craze is very exciting, like hideaway, touch and summer (all TUUUUNES) but like there was an R&B craze, this will also pass over (hopefully next year). I miss the big artists that used to dominate the charts too :(

Black Widow is amazing! Can't wait for the music video!

Thank you, ^_^

I never said lots of people were insinuating it?, just that I've read some comments recently that have.

I'm really not fussed if the charts include well known acts or not (as much as I love Coldplay), as long as the material's good. I'm sure people would have said the same for Calvin Harris and David Guetta when they first entered the charts, brushing them aside as unknown dance acts in favour for big names, and look at them now.

And maybe them three female acts weren't the best example to use. I just seem to come across a lot of love for female "pop" acts in general when reading posts, and it becomes very tiresome after a while. <_<

^^ Well actually I like the fact that the music industry has become less manufactured. People tend to listen to the music more, not to an artist, which is a good thing. A lot of unknown before acts are in the charts, this is the current trend, it is fashionable to like something unknown before, it makes people feel more unique. But the other side of it is that the "big" names, especially if it is a big pop queen from the former glories, became really irrelevant, even if their material is first class.

I'm not sure the Calvin and Guetta example are 100% valid, as when they started they were surrounded by the very well promoted pop, R&B or "indie" acts. Now all these unknown hits are surrounded by the same unknown hits, and I don't think we shall see many Calvin Harrises out of them.

Yeah, it's a shame some older acts can't achieve the same success nowadays.

It was criminal that U2 didn't reach the official top forty with 'Invisible' earlier this year, especially as it kept yo-yoing from 30-40 on iTunes.

I was referring more to Calvin Harris' 'Acceptable In The 80's' era and David Guetta's 'Love Don't Let Me Go' and 'The World Is Mine', before they attached themselves to so many other known acts.

Speaking of Calvin Harris, what do we think are the chances of him being No.1 next week?, as 'Summer's only 65 on iTunes at the moment... :(

High. Tsunami's pre-order was much lower at this point in the week, and that still made it to the top (albeit with not very long there!).

Actually, May will be a pretty interesting month considering there are probably only two likely number ones (Calvin and Rita Ora), so we'll probably see the end of the predictable-number-ones-with-a-week-at-the-top-each pattern... well, for now, anyway.

'I Wanna Feel' sounds like a No.1 smash to me, but again that will no doubt lose sales by being released in late May.

Calvin Harris's song is far more inline with the Taio Cruz/Dizzee Rascal stuff you mention from 2007-2011 than it is with dance music of today imo.

Black Widow is great, hope it does well with the video etc, maybe top 10

Yeah, it's a great song. Sounds similar to Dark Horse.

I'm impressed by Iggy tbh. I was always half expecting her to go the Flo Rida/Pitbull route and release dance-pop music, but instead it seems her songs keep getting more and more ratchet. I liked Fancy when I first heard it, but it's still a bit surreal that it's becoming her biggest hit, since I remember 2 years ago songs like that never stood a chance at getting any airplay.

It seems like something that will go to #1 to me. That piano melody in it has the potential to become iconic imo.

I don't think it's staying with the 90's house esque sound of the more recent dance music we've been having no.

I can't seen the Taio Cruz/Dizzee Rascal comparison though?

Nonetheless it's a great song. :D

Well, Calvin and Dizzee did have two #1s together in 2008 and 2009. And Calvin's music hasn't exactly changed much since then lol.

 52. Lana Del Rey - Gods & Monsters

Still on course for top 40 after tonight's episode! :cheer: I'm slightly surprised it's not higher, the trailer's being rammed on BBC One in every programme junction! I suppose it will have more effect in primetime viewing.

That too, but I was going on the basis that it'll chart in June. :P

I'm really disappointed by how Indiana is doing. :(

I was counting on that being a top 10 hit.

i imagine if it wasn't for the pre-orders being visible, people would probably be surprised at it getting as high as #15! i think it's done pretty well for a fairly new/unknown artist tbf
