Posted April 20, 201411 yr Did anyone like Terence Trent D'Arby in the late 80's? Not everyone's cup of tea but just dug his Introducing The Hardline According To......cd out and giving it a spin. Great album that debuted at No.1 in July '87 and then was No.1 again for many weeks in early 1988, thanks to Sign Your Name becoming a No.2 hit. Wishing Well, Dance Little Sister and If You Let Me Stay were the other hits but the non-single tracks like Seven More Days and Rain are good too. Sort of went downhill after that and his subsequent albums weren't as good, didn't chart for long or sell a lot really. He had a very high opinion of himself and over-inflated ego and once said that his debut album was "the most important since Sgt. Pepper" I wouldn't go so far! Edited April 20, 201411 yr by Common Sense
April 20, 201411 yr Sign Your Name was really very good. I do like his voice a lot and I think he was better at ballads.
April 20, 201411 yr I really like Let Her Down Easy from Symphony Or Damn, an album that of course includes a duet with Buzzjack icon Des'Ree. Introducing The Hardline is a really strong album to be fair, it just suffers from being released in the later 80s which is an era that really hasn't stood the test of time at all well production wise.
April 27, 201411 yr I heard 'Wishing Well' for the first time a couple years ago and really, really liked it. 'Sign Your Name' was covered wonderfully by Sheryl Crow in 2010, though it obviously doesn't touch the original.
