March 16, 20169 yr Absolutely brilliant series from start to finish. Brilliant acting by all - but for me - Kevin Doyle stood out. I felt as though I was going to have a heart attack on his behalf! If he doesn't get some sort of aware for this role then there's something wrong. Edited March 16, 20169 yr by Kath
March 16, 20169 yr Sally's confirmed that she won't be writing the third season for a long time yet because she's so busy. I'd expect we'll get a third season at the beginning of 2018 at this point.
March 17, 20169 yr Author omg when did she say that?! A few months ago apparently. The main writer has said she'd take her time to pen a third series anyway, even if she did agree, so that she could write a really good story as she'd hate the quality to deteriorate.
March 19, 20169 yr I thought series 2 was just as good as 1. I'm interested how series 3 will turn out too - shame we're probably gonna have to wait ages! Some excellent acting - I really do like Sarah Lancashire.
March 22, 20169 yr http://www.digitalspy.com/tv/happy-valley/...a-third-series/ Sarah's fully on board for a third season!
March 22, 20169 yr Fantastic news! Ahh this is such a gem of a show, superbly written & acted. If there's any justice Sarah Lancashire will win a BAFTA, she really should have done for Series 1.
March 22, 20169 yr Author http://www.digitalspy.com/tv/happy-valley/...a-third-series/ Sarah's fully on board for a third season! :cheer:
March 24, 20169 yr I just caught up on this, it's AMAZING. Really tense and gripping throughout, by the last episode you were really feeling the fear that John was feeling about getting caught and his murderous secret unravelling. That therapist Catherine was seeing about midway through, if I had one like that I would have for sure given him a piece of my mind. Bless her, she goes through so much.
January 18, 20223 yr Wow, almost 6 years since Series 2! Somehow I missed the announcement that we're getting one more series :cheer:
January 18, 20223 yr Wow, almost 6 years since Series 2! Somehow I missed the announcement that we're getting one more series :cheer: It was announced in October but for me it didn't feel like there was as much noise because it was already presumed by everyone we'd be getting another series. The writer Sally Wainwright had always expressed interest in writing another series but wanted to wait until the actor playing Ryan was older and then the key actors in the show all agreed to commit to another series. By the time it was officially announced as returning, it felt like something we already knew. That said, seeing photos of filming today has got me excited. I rewatched the two series last year and they still hold up as among the best dramas I've seen.
October 16, 20222 yr New pictures released today ahead of the new series: https://www.bbc.com/mediacentre/2022/happy-...rand-new-images New pictures from the third series of Sally Wainwright’s multi-BAFTA award winning hit Happy Valley have revealed more about the much-anticipated final instalment. The six-part series, featuring Sarah Lancashire in her iconic role of Sergeant Catherine Cawood for the last time, is made by Lookout Point for BBC One and BBC iPlayer, in co-production with AMC Networks. Catherine is pictured with a bloodied nose in the aftermath of a police raid, while Tommy Lee Royce (James Norton) – with a radically different look – is seen in his prison cell, alongside first-look glimpses of Catherine’s sister Clare (Siobhan Finneran) and teenage grandson Ryan (Rhys Connah). Announced today, the final series will also see the return of Happy Valley favourites Ishia Bennison as Joyce, Shane Zaza as Shaf, Chord Melodic as Sledge, and Mete Dursun as Gorkem. They join the previously announced new and returning cast members: Con O’Neill, George Costigan, Charlie Murphy, Derek Riddell, Karl Davies, Susan Lynch, Rick Warden, Vincent Franklin, Amit Shah, Mark Stanley, and Mollie Winnard. Happy Valley newcomers Oliver Huntingdon (The Rising), Jack Bandeira (Sex Education), Alec Secareanu (God’s Own Country), and Anthony Flanagan (Gentleman Jack) will also appear in series three. When Catherine discovers the remains of a gangland murder victim in a drained reservoir, it sparks a chain of events that unwittingly leads her straight back to Tommy Lee Royce. Her grandson Ryan is now 16 and still living with Catherine, but he has ideas of his own about what kind of relationship he wants to have with the man Catherine refuses to acknowledge as his father. Still battling the seemingly never-ending problem of drugs in the valley and those who supply them, Catherine is on the cusp of retirement.
December 22, 20222 yr Currently rewatching the first two series of this in anticipation of the third. It's such a good series, definitely one of the best I've ever watched, and cannot wait for the third. Looks like they've deliberately left it a while so Ryan is older in it and the storyline moved on accordingly.
January 4, 20232 yr So happy to have this back! The first episode was great as expected; I loved checking in on all the familiar characters again and I'm intrigued by all the new characters and new plot points that were set up. Catherine has to be one of my favourite characters in TV drama, I just love her Northern humour and Sarah Lancashire plays her brilliantly, she can say so much with just an expression.
February 7, 20232 yr Another excellent series although I was annoyed they left the other storylines unresolved!
February 7, 20232 yr Another excellent series although I was annoyed they left the other storylines unresolved! Pretty much my thoughts, I thought they ended the Catherine, Ryan, Tommy story perfectly. But everything else was a bit of a hot mess. I get the secondary storylines have always been a bit like that in the show, but it just all seemed really rushed and I thought they could have handled that and the wider Darius story better. My one gripe with the final series.
