SO you reckon Madonna, like Michael Jackson, is like a one-time thing?

Yeah we had glimpses from GaGa, but her career, like Britney's, went down.

Britney could never be a new Madonna, she had the POSSIBILITY with In the Zone and when she was so huge pre-2003, but she was largely manufactured pre-In the Zone, and after in fact. Now she's turned robotic and is very through-the-motions, so she really does not compare.

However Katy releases classic after classic, and if that's not like Madonna then what is? She's always relevant and releasing cutting-edge pop.Maybe Rihanna could be a contender too.

Callum, a glimpse:

glimpses of a "legacy" from Gaga?

l o l

Gaga during certain points of the Fame/Monster era (Bad Romance for one) certainly showed signs of having a Madonna-esqe legacy.

Calum, I was comparing her to peaks of Madonna's career: creating legions of fans that dress/idolise/think of nothing else but her etc (what feels like a religion), creating videos that are at times controversial, but also layered with meanings and get the world talking, the extravagant costumes that mean the same for her fans as Madonna's did for her fans etc. I am not for a SECOND trying to say that Gaga has matched Madonna's legacy, she's basically a grain of sand in the beach in comparison, i'm just saying if she can continue for the next 15 years to go from strength to strength then there's no reason she can't be Madonna's successor. Again i am NOT saying Gaga = Madonna, i am able to look objectively at things like this, but Gaga has most similarities to Madonna - as haters are so quick to comment on  These comparisons even if they do come across as imitations, show that they are on similar wavelengths as artists as Regina said, and i'm not bringing success into this for this point.

And Michael, Madonna's peak arguably came 20 years into her career and Michael Jackson's came around 15 years into it, who's to say that Britney, Gaga, Katy or anyone has reached their peak yet?

Bad Romance alone is a glimpse at a legacy. Maybe I'm biased as it's one of my favourite songs of all time, but it's surely up there with Hung Up, Can't Get You Out Of My Head and Toxic for example as an iconic pop song of the 21st century. I don't think Gaga will live up to madonna, I'm sure nobody ever will, but like Bal has already said Madonna took 20 years to reach her pinnacle, so we really can't say Gaga is done and has no legacy or whatever.

Well, Britney is thinking about retirement according to some articles, right, and had a massive breakdown and has not recaptured the magic she had pre-Blackout, it's like saying the Spice Girls haven't reached their peak yet.

Katy Perry has probably had her peak, it's true, with Teenage Dream but Michael Jackson had his with Thriller early on too. Lady GaGa probably has had her peak too, the only one who might not have is Rihanna.

Gaga most certainly has showed signs of a legacy - she won't match Madonna at all IMO, but she's certainly made a HUGE impact in a small period of time, and will have a dedicated fanbase for ages I think.

All things that can be tagged to any other artist out there? Yeah.

I'm sorry Calum but you really cannot downplay Gaga's impact. I feel like you're judging with your own opinion here instead?

She's no Madonna but she's had a big impact on MANY people in a small period of time. Her fans are more devoted than someone like Katy, who is definitely more relevant right now.

So now that Kath has buggered off, Calum is back to hating on Gaga?
Throw in 'Lost' and you would have my top 5 from that album listed! Impeccable taste there mister!

I meant to list that one! That ones the best on the album for me!

You're just bitter your fave was poised to be queen of pop then flopped and was surpassed by the enw generation.

Hataa.

Tread lightly. My Artpop could mean anything! 😏

AND LET US NOT COMPARE GAGA AND BRITNEY WHEN IT COMES TO LEGACY. Britney has left her mark and WILL be remembered, and let's not forget who has been on this shit for almost 17 years, and who has been on it for 7.

Britney had the world in her hand in every aspect from 1998-2008. (The prime, the fall, the comeback)

Baby One More Time, Oops... I Did It Again, slave 4 U, Toxic: all of those were game changers in pop music. The world was captivated with her completely until her comeback. But, that's because Britney has chosen to let it go.

She has never promoted her ass off (oh hey artpop), and flopped. You all are not giving enough credit to the pop icon that was Britney Spears in her prime. And since were on the subject... How many people have made out with Madonna and then had her be on THEIR album?

K den.

Madonna is a legend in every sense, but she has ruined it from going even further with collaborating with LMFAO and Nicki Minaj and has been patchy with eras since Ray Of Light.

Britney Spears has a strong legacy up until 2004 which I don't think can be argued.

Lady Gaga has got a legacy even if it is for the first two and a half years of her career.

And while Katy Perry is doing well for herself, she's not doing much other than making catchy pop songs supplied by Dr Luke with a very strong hit and miss rate in terms of quality for me.

It's also very arguable that Confessions Of A Dancefloor is Madonna's best album. I think Ray Of Light is seen by most critics as her best.

Agreed to the fullest extent. Spill it!

What more do you need, really?
