I haven't been this excited to see a film since jurassic World. It's all so perfect so far!

PEE IN THAT CUP!

I haven't paid attention to anything surrounding this until now, but I saw the trailer in the cinema last night and it looks AWESOME

The Blue Power Ranger will be autistic and the Yellow Power Ranger will be gay.

Didn't a former actor who played a Power Ranger quit because of abuse in the television series?

Sorry but this was terrible. Even Rita fell a bit flat for me which was the ultimate disappointment. It took waaaay too long for the actual Power-rangering to happen. If the character development was a bit more interesting it would have been fine. But there is very little hand-to-hand combat that I always loved. It's mostly character development and then the big fight stuff that happened at the end of every episode, but it translated as just a Transformers knock off.

I really enjoyed it. I totally understand it won't be everyone's cup of tea, given that there's no big action until the last half hour, but I really enjoyed it.

The first 5 minutes are a brilliant touch and a neat way to give a valuable bit of backstory. There is a lot of character development going on, but it was necessary I think. I like that these Rangers don't know how to fight, don't know how to control their zords at first and don't really accept what they're being told at first.

I liked Rita. I thought she was particularly nasty in the first half of the movie. She's pretty vicious. Alpha 5 and Zordon were done well too, and I really liked the ship/training centre/zord lair. The zords themselves were fantastic too.

I think some parts of this are potentially intense for younger viewers. Spoilers follow:

I didn't expect them to kill of a Ranger at all. One little boy in our cinema got a bit upset at that part.

Also, when the zords are falling into the pit and they're all burning and basically dying, it reminded me of the incinerator sequence in Toy Story 3. The same boy in my cinema was quite anxious at that bit.

I also like how they only teased the coming together of the Megazord like that. We only saw certain parts connecting together through the flames.

And finally, when that theme song played when the zords made their first approach together to engage with Goldar, my 10 year old self lost his shit.

I actually CANT WAIT to see this tomorrow! One thing I'm wondering, are Bulk and Skull in this?

There are two characters in this at the very beginning in a scene with Jason that could well be them, but we don't hear their names. Their characteristics do fit though.

I'm only a casual fan of Power Rangers (never seen much of them aside from a couple shows and having the action figures as a kid) and that mixed with the poor reviews meant I was really expecting to dislike this but I absolutely adored it. All the characters were very likable (aside from Zack was far too arrogant and did nothing to redeem himself really, aside from have a sick mum ?) and it was way funnier than I was expecting too, there were some great one liners and scenes (e.g Rita in the jewellery shop  As well as the cow joke at the beginning, wasn't expecting there to be a joke about that in a film like this ). I thought I'd be bored too after hearing there was only really one action scene at the end but there were loads of fun fantasy moments to keep me entertained (as well as Dacre Montgomery's face to look at :heehee: ) and the one action scene that we did get was fab, loved the water action sequence and the hand-to-hand combat choreography was enjoyable to watch too and then we get the Zords which was a great way to finish it all off. Really hoping we get a sequel, the audience in my screening were loving it!!!

That DigitalSpy review is complete rubbish. Just talks about the product placement and the fact the suits have breasts?! The product placement is used a lot in the last half, but although slightly corny, it's got a purpose. It's not like you see in music videos where they use things randomly for the sake of using them. Pretty sure that even if they were to make up their own company, it would have been used and mentioned in the exact same way.

Really nit picking for the sake of nit picking.

I liked it and enjoyed it. Was it amazing? No. Was it life defining? No. But did anyone REALLY think it would be?

My main criticism is that the build up was a little bit TOO long, imo. But as Paul said, it was major character development so wasn't exactly pointless. I do think they could've maybe edited it down by about 15-20 mins and saved the rest for an "extended version" or something "for the real fans" who will buy it on blu-ray etc... It was definitely a mix of your typical coming of age, angsty teen movie thrown together with something like 'Chronicle'.

The characters were quite reliable in staying true to the TV show, but also being different enough in it's own way. Rita was a lot more menacing than I expected her to be, but I liked that. It made her a legit threat! I also LOVED that they gave it all a bit of history and a back story! I wasn't expecting that and was fully expecting us to just believe that the Rangers were just called upon to stop Rita etc..

The megazord was vile though. If I wanted to see that, I'd just stick on Transformers! :( Really wish they'd have colour co-ordinated the parts of the zords. I also wanted to see the assembling of the megazord (I know Paul said he liked what they did with it, but I just couldn't </3 )

Some spoilery stuff:

The ending cameos by Amy Jo and Jason David Frank was really cool and a really nice touch!

THE THEME SONG. ME AND MY MATES DEFINITELY FAN GIRLED SO HARD AT THAT! I was fully expecting them to ruin it in a similar way to Fall Out Boy ruining the Ghostbusters theme, but THANK GOD they used the original!! SO happy at that!

Overall, not without it's flaws, but a nice little reboot which has potential to grow into something really special. Especially now that the characters are all developed, hopefully we'll see more Rangery stuff in the sequel(s?). 7/10 for me.

Very happy with it.

Yeah it was definitely an unusual choice to not show the full assembling of the Megazord. I'd have liked to have seen it, but I did quite like the hints at certain parts clipping together and then have him rising up.

This Megazord is very different though, in that he has a fairly organic looking metal mesh body, with only small sections that are obviously parts of the zords. I read somewhere that they went that way to be more in line with the alien nature of the zords. Although they're robots they can take on the features of powerful creatures, so the coming together of the Megazord is almost like the zords morphing, rather than a completely mechanical piece by piece attachment.

Hopefully seeing this with my sister later.

Lots of reviews focussing on nostalgia and comparing it to the 90s. But that is what I didn't want. Though I loved Power Rangers back then as a 5-8 year old, I wouldn't want a complete rehash aged 28 just so I can fawn over when I was little. The show was shit for an adult to watch and the characters lacked personality beyond do-gooder. Fine for a child but not for me where I am now.

I'm now more in love with the concept of Power Rangers rather than its previous execution. I'm quite looking forward to this film, not for nostalgia, but more to see how the concept is brought into modern day. I hope I won't be disappointed.

I really don't think you will be. They've changed quite a bit from the TV show and the general set up. There are definite nods to the original series but this is Power Rangers for a new generation.
Nostalgia or not it's just a terrible film. Badly paced, bad writing, clunky action scenes, uninteresting character development and man, the Black Ranger is insufferable. 'I'm so crazy!'. Stop.

Oh :P

It's far from a masterpiece, but there's plenty to enjoy too. Could they have cut a lot of the character development? Yes. It could have been edited quite a bit and we could have easily lost 20 minutes of it.

But when they do suit up I thought it was a lot of fun. I would have liked another 10 minutes or so of the final battle, with more Megazord action and Goldar/Rita being an even bigger threat but I liked what we got.

The blue ranger's acting was a bit cringey when we first meet him and the writing around him explaining he's on the spectrum was very clumsy, but I think all 5 of them end up doing a decent job.

Zordon was handled well too I thought. I liked that he's not a straightforward mentor. There's a motive behind his impatience with them and he's a bit of an ass until the moment he makes that choice.
