Posted May 12, 201411 yr Well one of his candidates has said it but he's defended him today and agreed with it. Do you think he's right? I do as the older generations are a bit less tolerant I feel and in their younger days it was still illegal and much more hidden away. Of course some under 70's are homophobic too. :( Had to smile at a post on DS that said "well they should use more lube" LOL. Edited May 12, 201411 yr by Common Sense
May 12, 201411 yr It's a statement of fact that a lot of over 70s are homophobic. Quite why he felt it needed reiterating is another matter.
May 12, 201411 yr Author It's a statement of fact that a lot of over 70s are homophobic.. Yes but do you think a much greater proportion of older people than younger ones are homophobic? Edited May 12, 201411 yr by Common Sense
May 12, 201411 yr Of course they are Chris, mainly because they were brought up in different times. Just like the majority of older people are probably slightly racist. My Grandad still refers to black people as coloured. It doesn't make him racist, but it was acceptable and generally the norm back in 'his age'. Society moves in different ways.
May 14, 201411 yr possibly more "gay culture" that makes them uncomfortable (in the same way as rave culture would make them uncomfortable) rather than homophobia. You don't get to be 70 without having seen a lot in life, (and especially having many many family members, friends or colleagues who are gay) and I wouldnt put a lot of store on anyone in UKIP having a balanced view on anything, whatever age they are. Most of the extreme abuse I've ever come across is predominantly young males. Obviously there are more subtle and sneaky extremists about, and I would agree that the younger generation is much much much more accepting than they were when I was in my teens, when homophobia was rife amongst teenagers. People tend to go along with the crowd, you see.... :(
May 15, 201411 yr I think there's a difference between being "uncomfortable" with something and being outright opposed to it. Younger people do, in my experience generally speaking, seem more comfortable with gays and gay culture, and are much more vocal about how comfortable and accepting of it they are! I think, generally, older people just quietly accept it.

May 25, 201411 yr Yes you're right, the BBC are the EXACT reason why this country is in the shit. Edited May 25, 201411 yr by THE GRIFF
May 25, 201411 yr I still find it bizarre that of all of the problems this country has, being worried about causing offence is suposedly one of of the worst.

May 29, 201411 yr I still find it bizarre that of all of the problems this country has, being worried about causing offence is suposedly one of of the worst. It's the 'putin' strategy. Put up a smoke screen while the government do whatever the hell they want everywhere else~
May 29, 201411 yr By "most" he is basically saying majority i.e. 80% plus. Where is his evidence? Reason 409,755 why NOT to vote for this bullshit far right party! Total tosser!
