I've just seen this article which is an interesting read:

But they have no time to spend their money, they only see the four walls of hotel rooms and the cabins of private jets, and they would not dare get intimate with the girls because their management won’t allow it
Louis, Liam and Zayn often say that their mates who aren’t famous are enjoying life so much more than they are

Harry sees his time in 1D as the beginning of Harry Styles Inc. Rumours are circulating increasingly that he wants a solo music deal

with the whole smoking controversy and this, I have a feeling that the band will split soon. Not this year or next, but it sounds like some of the members are starting to not enjoy the 1D thing as much as they did now that they've suffered from the side-effects of being really famous. And then we've got Harry wanting a solo career.

Do you think this is the beginning of the end for One Direction? Or can you see them still being together in 3-5 years time?

I think they'll stick until their contract expires and then split. I don't think they should even go solo as they're together because they weren't good enough solo, right?

Of course they won't be damaged in the long term by the cocaine video. It'll be forgotten by next week.

However, as it becomes clearer that the members are going in different directions musically (Harry writing for Kodaline, Zayn working with Naughty Boy etc), they'll probably take a hiatus after they've run out of ideas for the yearly albums and how successful they are (aside from Harry Styles who would easily be a massive name in solo terms) will determine if the band continues afterwards.

Yeh, the x factor said so!!

oh I don't think the video will damage them in the long term, but I do think if they're getting into that and as they're now grown men I can't see One Direction still being together for too much longer. Some of them may be having their Miley Cyrus/Justin Bieber phase where they don't want to make music for young teenage girls anymore.

I mean they're so big now, playing stadiums around the world etc. that it's hard to imagine them growing any more. So in that sense yeah, but not in relation to the past week. They've got at least a couple more albums to release, if they're still raking it in then management will try and squeeze a bit more out of them.

I think the key word is "weren't". They were put together because at the time (four years ago) none of them would've likely got far as a solo act but now that they've achieved this level of fame/success and gained the experience I don't see why they can't try solo careers (not that it would work for all five of them but maybe one or two and tbh it would be crazy not to try..).

Either one of them could sell a blank CD and the directioners would buy it, it just isn't so much about their music anymore. -_-

Disgraceful. I hear Points Of View now does an item involving selling blank CDs which fans buy.

Yeah it's pretty obvious that if all five of them released solo albums it'd rake even more money in (would they remain signed to Syco?). The only person I really can't see releasing a solo album is Louis - has he not been in talks lately to buy a football club?! Zayn would do a rap album, Niall a folk one, Harry a massive pop one and Liam attempting a Calvin Harris-esque one.
It's true, their fans are too dedicated to the band/individuals and would agree with anything they do. They shouldn't go solo really, they'd be the new Justin Bieber's of the music industry!

I think that these boys need a time out, and they're management should ease up on them a bit, they're overworked and it's showing and it's not really fair on them
I definitely do not think it's the beginning of the end for 1D, not at all. These rumours are being vastly exaggerated IMO.
They seem a little fed up at the moment and look bored on stage tbh. Radio 1 big weekend showed this. Their management should give them a good year off for them to want to be there moving forward.
