Some big pop stars make their first appearance on the list: Robbie, Kylie, Britney, Beyoncé, Shakira, and Usher. All of them have more entries to come except for Robbie. This is also the only time you’ll see Westlife, despite them having eleven number-one singles. I’m not familiar with most of them, but ‘World Of Our Own’ gets bonus points for being one of their originals. I am literally shocked to read that Orson is an American band. They literally did nothing there—and of course ‘No Tomorrow’ has the lowest weekly #1 sales ever in the UK—but they impressively climbed to the top of the UK charts and knocked Chico off by doing so. Also note that ’21 Questions’ is already the second song to have the number 21 in the title, after ’21 Seconds’ by So Solid Crew. Only one spot away from being #221 :kink: That's too bad!

some classics in that batch - Orson, Robbie, Shapeshifters, Kylie, and Britney, Beyonce, Shakira too..!

So true. Just after finishing my post with It's Gonna Be Me, I heard it in the car and that renewed my appreciation for it. Still doesn't hold a candle to Tearin' Up My Heart though. As for 'horror days' I wouldn't say Kelly Clarkson or Katy Perry but rather Usher, Maroon 5, Taylor Swift...but that's just me!

Indeed! :o It's good to see you here!

Fun fact about Jennifer Lopez: she has 3 #1s in the UK and 4 in the US, and none of them are the same song! She has three more to come after ‘All I Have’ which starts off this section. Eminem and Britney Spears, who both make their second appearance, can relate to this. Eminem has 8 #1s in the UK and 5 in the US but only 2 of those in common, and Britney has 6 in the UK and 5 in the US but only one in common. Speaking of songs reaching #1 in both countries, ‘Fireflies’ by Owl City did the opposite of Taio Cruz by topping Billboard in 2009 and the UK chart in 2010. I intended to list Eamon and Frankee back-to-back but after re-listening to ‘F.U.R.B.’, it’s terrible! Instead Eamon gets to sit between Mint Royale and Lily Allen. I thought ‘Singin’ In The Rain’ would be just a cover of the original but it’s absolutely brilliant. As for ‘Smile’, I have fond memories of seeing the video on TV in the morning while getting ready for school.

Disturbia is one of my favourite Rihanna singles

Eamon's song is a great track too :D

100 songs down, 150 to go, and we just now get to two of the least popular artists of our time, Chris Brown and Nickelback. They should really consider collaborating. ‘Run It!’ and ‘How You Remind Me’ were their respective debut hits and I’m sure neither of them imagined becoming such a hate figure. I’m pretty sure I was the very last person to know that anyone hated Nickelback, so I’m not going to disown this song even if everyone else does. But they are a terrible band now, for sure. ‘Groovejet’ was one of the first British songs I discovered and loved right away, even though it was eight years old by that time. Also, a bit of a coincidence, ‘No One’ was #1 when I started following the Billboard charts, and ‘My Life Would Suck Without You’ was #1 when I started following the UK charts…and somehow they both ended up in this section together! Yay.

Some absolute TUNES mentioned - especially I'm Not Alone and Singin' In The Rain

From that last batch I love Put Your Hands Up For Detroit, Groovejet (If This Ain't Love), Beautiful Girls, My Life Would Suck Without You, 7 Days, Big Girls Don't Cry & How You Remind Me.

It’s getting harder and harder to eliminate songs! Out of this batch, only Eminem, U2, and the Sugababes will show up again. If you hadn’t realized, Eminem is responsible for the name Stan being turned into a verb and becoming a staple of the music-forum lexicon, particularly on ATRL but sometimes here as well. It took me a while to figure that out but I wonder how he feels about that  If you haven’t heard ‘Be With You’ before, it’s a refreshing bit of the OLD Enrique, not a stand-out track of his but the good hooks make up for it. The rest of these are more familiar—‘Mad World’, ‘Gold Digger’, ‘Call On Me’, and ‘Hey There Delilah’. The Plain White T’s have done well for a one-hit wonder; they’ve had a few other songs that kind of almost achieved something. In case you didn’t know that.

121. All Saints “Black Coffee”

UK #1

Next at #130 is ‘Everything You Want’, a midtempo pop-rock song from 1999/2000 that’s probably not well known to Buzzjack. LeAnn Rimes is the second country artist on the countdown (after Tim McGraw); but of course ‘Can’t Fight The Moonlight’ is decidedly not country, much like the song on which Tim McGraw was featured. They can do whatever genre they want, quite frankly. T.I makes his final two appearances here, on ‘Live Your Life’ with Rihanna and ‘My Love’ with Justin Timberlake. Twitter sensation James Blunt is #124, followed by ‘Temperature’, one of Sean Paul’s many songs to which linguists have yet to decipher the lyrics. Joking aside, he was brilliant back then and can still release something good on rare occasions. I love that ‘Black Coffee’ is one of All Saints’ #1s because it doesn’t sound like a big hit, just soothing and lovely with the help of William Orbit’s magic. Next to them is another girl group, Destiny’s Child with ‘Bootylicious’. They have a singles rate happening in the Beyoncé forum! I could use some help picking which song of theirs to give an 11.

Live Your Live is amazing! Down used to be one of my favourite songs back in the day too!

111. U2 “Beautiful Day”

UK #1 (USA #21)

‘Amazed’ Not a huge fan of Lonestar but I heard this a lot back in 2000 and loved it. But its beauty has diminished over the years, it’s really just a standard late-90s ballad. Also representing 2000 are Christina Aguilera, U2, and…Creed. Creed is every bit as unpopular as Nickelback nowadays but I have two of their CDs and can’t deny ‘With Arms Wide Open’ or any of their other songs. ‘Bad Day’ is another one that I really connected to at the time. Daniel Powter is perhaps the ultimate one-hit wonder of the noughties. Also here, ‘Drop It Like It’s Hot’ and ‘Ridin’ are undeniable jams. ‘My Boo’ seems very forgotten now…a great collab and a reminder of when every Usher single not only was a hit, but deserved to be a hit.

I thought Kanye West wouldn’t show up again but forgot about his verse on ‘Run This Town’, lead single from The Blueprint III which was probably my favorite Jay-Z era. If anything, this song is still so underrated. Also from 2009 are Britney Spears with ‘3’, the shortest title of any #1 song, and JLS with ‘Everybody In Love’. Out of their 5 number-ones I like this and ‘Love You More’ the best. Another highlight from this section is ‘The Promise’, the song that got me into Girls Aloud albeit five or six years late. I must draw attention to ‘All This Time’ as I love it so much! I’ve never heard Michelle sing anything else but this music video is so cliché with the most flawless hand movements ever *.* Once you see them, you can't un-see them..not that you'd want to! ‘London Bridge’ is Fergie’s last solo entry, one of my faves from The Duchess but ‘Fergalicious’, ‘Clumsy’, and ‘Finally’ would place so much higher had they been #1s. And just missing out on the top 100 is Nelly Furtado with ‘Maneater’ which at the time was my fave from Loose, but not anymore. Two other tracks from Loose did make the top 100 and have a chance of doing very well!

91. My Chemical Romance “Welcome To The Black Parade”

UK #1 (USA #9)

Finally into the top 100, where all of the songs are at least a 9/10 and will quickly approach 10/10 territory. It all starts with my earliest memory of Eminem, watching ‘The Real Slim Shady’ video on TV which probably wasn’t appropriate for an 8-year-old. Next is ‘We Belong Together’, a 14-week #1 in America and actually Billboard’s number-one song of the decade. I can’t disagree as it was absolutely everywhere, but I love it and can’t think of a song more deserving. The longest-running UK #1 of the decade is also here, ‘Umbrella’ by Rihanna with 10 weeks. That one was impossible to escape too. I have no clue how ‘Breathe’ managed a four-week run at the top but that more than makes up for rudely missing the top 40 in the States. The same goes for five-week #1 ‘Grace Kelly’, a song that really stands out for its originality and deserves to be a classic. But what makes me happiest is seeing that My Chemical Romance made it to #1 with a brilliant rock anthem, which used to be fairly common but only a couple of bands have done so since.

UK #1

A fairly rock-dominant section here, including Kaiser Chiefs, Evanescence, and—believe it or not—Kid Rock! I wasn’t following the charts at the time and have no idea how enough people could like ‘All Summer Long’ to make it #1, but I’m glad it happened. You might think it would do better in America, but he actually refused to put his album on iTunes there so it charted only on airplay alone, making that #23 peak very impressive. As a result there was a fake version that peaked higher than this at #19! The last of JLo’s Billboard #1s is at #82 but her two UK #1s from last decade are still to come. This is specifically the Murder Remix of ‘Ain’t It Funny’ but I think this and the original both make a perfect single. They’re two completely different songs, each with a flawless melody and fantastic production. I also don’t know how ‘That’s Not My Name’ got to #1 but it’s wonderfully quirky and 2008 had the best variety of number-ones.

71. Scissor Sisters “I Don’t Feel Like Dancin’”

UK #1

Gwen Stefani kicks off this next post, as rumors of a new solo album slowly circulate the Internet. Although she’s an incredible talent, I have trouble believing that her third era is going to happen. I’d much prefer a comeback from the Pussycat Dolls, who are at #76 with ‘Don’t Cha’. Just ahead of them is Lily Allen with one of my favorite music videos of all time, which helps ‘The Fear’ sneak into the top 75. J-Lo appears yet again, with her saxtastic hit from 2005. She was way ahead of the trend there! 50 Cent makes his second and final appearance at #72. It’s a shame ‘In Da Club’ was outpeaked in the UK by his atrocious song ‘My Life’, featuring Adam of Maroon 5 who are at #77 with ‘Makes Me Wonder’, easily the best of their #1s in either country. What’s even more tragic is that the Scissor Sisters have never had a chart hit in their home country. ‘I Don’t Feel Like Dancin’ did have minimal airplay and TV play so I was still able to appreciate it at the time. It was a massive hit everywhere else and would probably be just as big today considering how well disco-flavored pop is doing in general.

The Fear is amazing, all of her albums are amazing. She's so witty, definitely one of my favourite pop stars.

Get Right is also great, not my favourite J-Lo track though. That would be Love Don't Cost A Thing, Jenny From The Block or I'm Into You. All are 10/10 songs

A big yes at Say My Name and Welcome to the Black Parade as well, both amazing songs. Destiny's Child have such a good discography though
