A great start for James. Their last studio album charted at #10, so this one looks on course to either beat or match that one.

Their last new releases (the two EPs / mini albums in 2010) charted at #20 and #19, I assume you aren't counting these as 'studio albums'?

 at Mariah's drop. I heard "Thirsty" in HMV today aswell, clearly didn't entice many people to buy the album.
But 40k might not be enough to see Coldplay reach YTD #1 next Sunday.

Paolo for one more week at least!

That would be correct. 'Hey Ma' is the one I was referring to.

Just noticed Mariah's album is at 39 in its second week. Wow. :o

Did you expect it to be higher than that? I'm actually surprised it's still top 40.

I expected an artist with a career as long as hers to hang around longer, even with little to no promotion.

Luckily almost nobody knows this album exists so they won't know it's flopped so bad.

The elusive flop, if you will :magic:. The most deadly of all flops as it doesn't even get attention and potential pity purchases on account of flopping so spectacularly.

To be honest, this album has done really well to even end up being released. For months I thought it never would be, but her last album flopped mega style too so this was no surprise.

Just checked her chart stats in the UK and her career has struggled ever since E=MC2 was released.

I'm not really a follower of Mariah so didn't realise how bad it has got. No wonder people here aren't surprised by the performance of this album!

The thing is she actually had momentum and a hit single... this time last year. Then she just utterly failed to capitalise on that and delayed the album long past the point of anyone caring. I think she could get a hit album again if she manages to conjure a hit out of nowhere again and then actually releases an album when people are likely to buy it.

Ed will be on Graham Norton tommorow so that will no doubt boost his sales over Saturday.

Who did Hank knock out of the albums top 10 btw, Paolo or Paloma?

Paloma.

Expect Vera Lynn to climb inside the top 10, its the 70th Anniversary of the D-Day landings (6th June).

Forgot about that :) happy days could be more. Makes me wonder why on earth the album isn't out this Monday and not on the 23rd?!

5 James - La Petite Mort (8.7k) *

Is this James, the band that released Sit Down?
