Wow at the Ed Sheeran domination! :o I know it's pre-order tracks, but still. I'm just a bit worried that people who don't know what's going on might look at the iTunes chart and think he's died.
I've heard Music Week could be interesting tomorrow......

......

;)

Well what was it about then?

Well what was it about then?

I guess we'll have to find out later today.

I would lol if it was the announcement of streaming being included into this week's chart, Buzzjack's reaction would be priceless, and, of course, 5SOS would definitely miss #1

So basically this week's top ten will have 6 Ed Sheeran songs in it?

I suppose you could say 7 as 'Budapest' may as well be an Ed Sheeran song too.

The Big Top 40 show on Sunday will be a mess because all the Ed Sheeran song's will count on that.

69. Alt-J - Hunger of the Pine

^ g'wan ∆ <3

73. Cheryl Cole - Crazy Stupid Love (feat. Tinie Tempah) [pre-order]

^ the way this is holding up, I honestly wouldn't be surprised if it scores the highest first-week sales this year (with less longevity than Rather Be in the long run, of course)

Fixed for you.

Ed's domination of the top 10 really is incredible. The songs themselves are very deserving of the attention though.

Just think if it had been Adele instead...

It should definitely outdo 150k but I'm not sure if it'll outdo Problem's first week sales (assuming that Problem beats Rather Be)

Well what was it about then?

Sorry, I was told that an announcement would *probably* be made in Music Week on Thursday. But doesn't look like it has. Still, I believe the rumours to be true. Perhaps it'll be on OCC site tomorrow. They are cutting it fine now!

Oh I might have spoken too soon about us not getting 7 Ed Sheeran songs top 10 as 'Don't' has actually managed to climb back up to #8 despite the new track overtaking it  So Ed now holds 6 of the top 8 with only Ella at #2 and Tiësto and #7. Madness. I could actually see most of these tracks being top 40 next week based on how well they're holding up, so the chart show would contain practically the whole of 'x'

'The Man' has shot to a much bigger lead than 'Thinking Out Loud' ever had, I guess because sales are generally low on Thursdays compared to the other days of the week (in addition to the number of pre-order sales obviously being a bit higher than those for 'Thinking Out Loud' due to including all of yesterday's pre-orders).

Football songs have made a bit of a recovery again now as expected:

44. Three Lions - David Baddiel, Frank Skinner & Lightning Seeds

59. Vindaloo - Fat Les

95. Noble England - Rik Mayall

97. World In Motion - England New Order

Also this is back for some reason:

78. Say Yes (feat. Beyoncé & Kelly Rowland) - Michelle Williams

ALSO:

 60. Hunger of the Pine - alt-J

Let's hope most/all of them get a higher peak as legitimate singles down the line or we'll have multiple 'You and I'-type situations on our hands :(.

You & I wasn't an instant grat - it was an iTunes error that caused it to chart at #19 initially. Besides, if/when they chart next week, they'll only have one day of album pre-orders included in them (Sunday), so they'll be legitimate peaks anyway.

Oh yeah, I knew there was more to it and I phrased the legitimate thing badly. I meant moreso that I much prefer when the peak of a song occurs when it's a single rather than as a hyped album track on release.

I don't think the Ed tracks are comparable to 'You & I', they will still have some album pre-order 'sales' included of course but only those actually made on Sunday (whereas with 'You & I' (and 'Don't Forget Where You Belong') all of the album pre-orders were included in the week it charted). They're more comparable to 'Diana'/'Midnight Memories'/'Strong' which charted in the 40s and 50s the week the album came out.

I reckon the Ed songs, with the exception of Sing and perhaps Don't will tumble pretty quickly the moment the album's released. Not sure if they'll have enough firepower to stay top 40, I guess a couple of them might.

Is this week a record for most different changes at number 1 in one week, is this the fifth different change at the top ??
