Will the streaming inclusion be a grande problem for Ariana and #1?

The time we've either been fully supporting or completely dreading has come: streaming is now included in the Official Singles Chart! To commemorate this chart history is what may be the fastest 'selling' single of the year - 'Problem' by Nickelodeon star Ariana Grande, with the help of rapper Iggy Azalea. Also new to the chart this week will be Australian singer Sia, who has made a name for herself following her features on 'Titanium' and 'Wild Ones' and her song-writing for artist such as Christina Aguilera, Rihanna, Beyonce and Kylie Minogue. She'll be getting a hit in her own right as 'Chandelier' looks set for the Top 10. Other new entries to the chart include DJ Fresh's 'Make U Bounce', another Ed Sheeran song - titled 'All of the Stars' from the soundtrack to The Fault in Our Stars and Busta Rhymes and Eminem's 'Calm Down'. Expect to see some rises and entries from 5 Seconds of Summer too.

After receiving the highest sales for a #1 album of the year, it would seem Ed Sheeran would be able to hold on for a second week. However this isn't without competition, as the latest boyband in the charts 5 Seconds of Summer and Sound of 2014 nominee George Ezra both release their debut albums this week. Also, Glastonbury over the weekend will have made a huge influence on the album chart this week, which could lead to a new peak for Dolly Parton's latest studio album/greatest hits collection as well as many other climbs and re-entries. As for new entries, others should include Trey Songz, David Gray and Austin Mahone.

NO SALES INFO

I wonder could Ed Sheeran block 5 Seconds of Summer in the race for number 1 in the album chart, if Ed managed to decrease by 50% on last weeks sales it could still be enough to stay number 1.

A 66-70% drop is what should be expected for Ed, I believe. Really depends on whether or not 5SOS are album sellers.

Drop might be less taking into consideration Glastonbury.

Even if Ed's sales drop around 70% I still can't see him selling less than 65-70k and I don't think 5SOS will be able to outsell X, even though I don't like either artist I really hope Ed can do it!

Really happy to see Sia heading for her second solo top 10!

Early data indicates that Problem has already accumulated a total combined ‘chart sales’ figure of 55,000 copies toward this coming Sunday’s chart, with only 1% of those being attributed to streams. As revealed last week, 100 streams will be equivalent to one single purchase (whether download, CD or vinyl) for chart purposes.

Ghost by former X Factor contestant Ella Henderson holds firm at Number 2 today with 21,000 ‘chart sales’ (with a contribution of approximately 8% from audio streams). Meanwhile Australian singer/songwriter Sia is new in at Number 3 with solo release, Chandelier, while Sing by Ed Sheeran (4) and Budapest by George Ezra (5) complete today’s Top 5.

Waves by Mr Probz (Number 9 today) has been given a boost by the inclusion of streaming data, with 17% of its ‘chart sales’ figure attributed to streams, while 15% of All Of Me by John Legend (Number 10).

Following Sunday’s Glastonbury Pyramid stage set, Ed Sheeran’s Sing is also shaping up to be the most streamed track of the week, based on early audio streaming data showing 13% of the track’s contribution coming from streams since the weekend.

'chart sales' = the new sales :magic:

So in summary;

Ariana Grande 'Problem'

55,000 chart sales

55,000 streams

54,450 sales

Ella Henderson 'Ghost'

21,000 chart sales

168,000 streams

19,320 sales

--

1 Problem

2 Ghost

3 Chandelier

4 Sing

5 Budapest

9 Waves

10 All of Me

I assume Gecko is at #6 then. Ouch :drama:

So, Ariana got 55k streaming since the release and probably over 50k in sales so far?

EDIT - Thermo beat me to it!!!

Still, I wonder how it will turn out on Sunday?

Edited by buzz_person

Today’s Top 10 is as follows:

1 PROBLEM ARIANA GRANDE FT IGGY AZALEA

2 GHOST ELLA HENDERSON

3 CHANDELIER SIA

4 SING ED SHEERAN

5 BUDAPEST GEORGE EZRA

6 GECKO (OVERDRIVE) OLIVER HELDENS & BECKY HILL

7 MAKE U BOUNCE DJ FRESH VS TC

8 STAY WITH ME SAM SMITH

9 WAVES MR PROBZ

10 ALL OF ME JOHN LEGEND

On the bright side Jasoin Derulo is out of the top 10 :D
On the bright side Jasoin Derulo is out of the top 10 :D

I wouldn't be surprised if he overtook John Legend though as he's outselling and out streaming him at the moment
