Ed Sheeran will certainly hold number 1, 5SOS needed to much further ahead to get number 1. Bon Jovi although will drop have done very well considering how expensive the album is. Ella Henderson still performing brilliantly.

There's nothing to suggest that Ed will keep the #1 yet :lol: It's hard to know how much they'll slow down especially when they've got signings this week too.

#12 is quite good for Coldplay at this stage, they're now top 10 on iTunes so hopefully they can clip into the top 10 officially by the end of the week! Great to see FAUL re-entering the top 40 again as well. And 'Jolene'. (Guilty pleasure okay)

That's what I thought too. I suppose streaming could have a bigger effect towards the end of the week, especially the weekend when people may create party playlists and what not (so the 'weekend effect' will be even bigger than it has been).

I don't think that'll make much of a difference tbh (since most people will probably just use the same playlists they use every other week). But I think the effects might be more visible further down the chart (like in the #101-#200 region)

Is anyone else amazed by 5SOS's first day sales?! I don't exactly understand how they're on course to beat The Vamps' debut sales by such a big margin (~25-30k) when I would have thought the bands have similar levels of relevance in the lives of British teenage girls :unsure: (They certainly have similar singles chart success anyway). 5SOS obviously has a huge die-hard fanbase due to being One Direction's support act but even 'Up All Night' 'only' sold 139k in November 2011. 5SOS (potentially) selling more than half of that figure in summer 2014 seems a bit disproportionate when they only have a fraction of 1D's exposure for their launch.

 

Maybe I'm over-analysing it all via quantitative terms and the sales are due to the music itself being genuinely AMAZING!!!!!! :wub: :cheer:?

 

Fair play to them anyway as their sales will be seriously impressive even with the likely massive drop-off.

5SOS definitely have a bigger fanbase than The Vamps do, going by social media etc. In terms of your query about how 5SOS may end up selling more than half the 139k that Up All Night sold in its first week, don't forget that it was released in the run up to Christmas so a lot of parents will be buying for their children (if we are to go by the general demographics of their fanbase) for Christmas Day, so there wasn't any particular need to buy their album on the first week.

 

It's also worth remembering that 5SOS will have some crossover appeal, as they are in fact a pop punk band and have appeared in the likes of Kerrang! (although from what I've experienced, anyone who buys Kerrang! is quite disgusted to see them in there :P).

5 Seconds Of Summer are going head to head with Ed Sheeran in the race to top this week’s Official Albums Chart.

 

The Aussie pop rockers’ self-titled debut album is currently in pole position in today’s midweeks. However, with less than 1,000 copies currently separating it from Ed’s latest album X, 5SOS have a fight on their hands if they want to hold onto the Number 1 spot come Sunday’s final whistle.

I love Milky Chance's song!!! It's excellent!!!! The album version is just sublime.

 

Ed should take the top album again this week since the gap closed even more.

Sorry... I literally forgot its Weds, hopefully some kind soul will post an update pretty soon as I'm multi-tasking with other things. :P
