Posted July 18, 201410 yr hULUa9IecTo Let us not forget that this is a forum to discuss and appreciate The Other Minogue Sister. Mizz Dannii has a fair few tunes of her own and few of them as good as this GEM. Who can forget seeing our Dan on a spinny record and pole dancing on it? The song is damn infectious too. Appreciate people! Use this thread for all Dannii apprecition, as there is alot to appreciate Edited July 19, 201410 yr by Regina
July 18, 201410 yr Yes I totally agree, I remembered I loved this back in the day and still do, and other singles of Dannii I like are Who Do You Love Now, I Begin To Wonder, Don't Wanna Lose This Feeling, All I Wanna Do and even one or two of her earlier stuff like This Is It, which I still have a soft spot for. Plus her album Neon Nights was fantastic and her best to date.
July 19, 201410 yr Love it and prefer to I begin to wonder. My favourite is You won't forget about me.
July 19, 201410 yr 'I Begin To Wonder' was the one which made me take notice of Dannii and 'Put The Needle On It' did sort of pass me by when it was released, but when I purchased Neon Nights I really grew to appreciate it more. Sexy video of course, and I quite like the Mute8 remix (which for some reason does not appear to be on YouTube).
July 19, 201410 yr Author I might just change this to a general Dannii Appreciation thread, i have Am I Dreaming? on right now and OMG I forgot how delightful this is.
October 18, 201410 yr Always found Dannii to be the hotter sister, and funnily enough, her voice (although similar and thin) is not as nasally and sounds stronger than Kylie. I think Kylie tours more and records more so she is in practice though Kylie's voice is very thin and limited. Annoying at times without good production. Dannii although similar sounding, sounds fuller and not as annoying. Anyway, fans rave on about Neon Nights, yeh its a great moody / retro sounding album that isn't too camp. I personally like the chilled out sound of the Unleashed album. I know this album was unfinished and u can tell she polished it up last minute from the vault, though I like this album the most. Dannii is more B grade with a slightly different style to kylie. I like her songs in the background.... BTW the remixed versions of the songs from Neon Nights on Unleashed make them sound more modern if you tire from the retro sound. In order 1) unleashed 2) Neon Nights 3) I guess not many options if you are a casual fan, I don't like the old stuff, though Club Disco The cover is hot, then you open it up and see her with all these drag queens, no offence, though I am not gay. I have a gay friend who insists on buying me Dannii & Kylie albums, so i buy him stuff I like haha Anyway Club Disco sounds B grade and very plasticy shiny.... Some songs are ok, like I'm sorry, Gone, Sunrise etc.... Though she openly said she did not want to go back and do another neon nights retro sound... Guess this will be the last album from her though that's my opinion on her music. She def is the better singer though Kylie must be business minded and has done well with producers and her label etc. Doe not mean she is the better singer. Aphrodite / Kiss me Once / Body language all good albums that mask her thin nasally voice as much as possible and good pop / Rnb at times.
October 19, 201410 yr Kylie's voice is not limited. Yes she has a tendency to sound very nasal sometimes but she has a big vocal range which you would certainly hear if you listened to one of her live albums (Showgirl Homecoming and Live In New York have the best vocals). It's just that her recorded material doesn't often showcase her voice well. Dannii is not so nasal but has much less range and unlike Kylie can't sing live very well.
October 19, 201410 yr JARK- LOL kylie sounds like a helium balloon... As for bigger range I disagree, as I mentioned kylie definitely practices and actually sings alot more than Dannii Who is more of a studio singer who rarely gets to perform live due to being less successful. Otherwise, I think Dannii sounds fuller and stronger... Give us a review of her more recent output, would be interested to hear what you have to say :-) Other than Sensitized which is a cool laid back track and All I see & a few others, I actually found Unleashed (released same year) to have a cool vibe to it, i.e bad weather, no romeo etc. B grade but more listenable
October 20, 201410 yr Hey everyone, so I thought I would write about how I became a fan, or ended up having some of Dannii's music on my shelf. Also, I have some cool information which clarifies Dannii's UNLEASHED & CLUB DISCO releases for fans from Nathan Smith. A mate of mine who is into the Minogue sisters kept telling me how Dannii released some new albums in 2007 (Unleashed / Club Disco) I was in JB one time & noticed they had Club Disco in the new section. Dannii looked hot on the cover & without having any knowledge about her music, I looked at the back & the whole concept of the album looked like a "clubbing" album. At the time, I thought maybe similar to Ministry of Sound lol as apparently she was Dance. Anyway I picked up the album and also wanted some songs from her peak period. Looking back, I remembered I begin to Wonder & Put the Needle on it videos where I first saw her when I was younger & thought she was hotter and had better music than her sister. Something different, though never took a chance on the album when I saw it at the time in stores. So my mate mentioned UNLEASHED has all her singles from the last few albums and some new tracks / remixes. Listening to both albums, I automatically liked the sound on Unleashed, the remixes of the hits from neon nights sounded more modern in 2007 & I liked the cruisy feel of the unreleased tracks (her work post neon nights on the Warner Label) Club disco, although the artwork and theme looked way better than the overly camp unleashed cover (what was she thinking) though the music sounded very B grade and plastic. Didn't mind the album but really liked Unleashed. BTW, if you are a casual fan & like her recent stuff, if you purchase Club Disco & Unleashed u basically have most of her discography as they both include majority of her work with both Warner & AAW labels really. No need for the hits & beyond. Anyway, after reading up about her and doing some investigating (haha as her releases and decisions are quite interesting), I bought Neon Nights & Girl Re-releases as she was on X factor. I like Neon Nights re-release as that was her peak I guess. Still like the unfinished album on Unleashed. As for fans on other blogs continually whinging about unleashed and club disco etc, her management was smart to release all that she had as she isn't really with a label and u got what was in the vault polished up. Basically a few more albums I include Unleashed & club disco as album releases, more periods of time as the following is what Nathan Smith clarified about her music: "Hi, 'Unleashed' was not supposed to follow up 'Neon Nights'. The album was simply a collection of some of the best mixes of Dannii's Warner Music singles and some unreleased songs that we had permission to release. 'Heavy Disco' was also simply a collection of the AATW singles and a collection of unreleased songs from that period that we had permission to release. This was never the proposed album that Dannii was working on before the AATW project turned into a Greatest Hits collection. Best wishes, N. Unleashed, Club Disco and The 1995 Sessions were fan-only releases. Neon Nights remains Dannii's last studio album. N. Yes - the unreleased tracks on 'Unleashed' were recorded after Neon Nights, except for 'Blame It On The Music'. However they may not necessarily have made it onto what would have been the 2nd London Records album. Normally 50 or 60 songs are recorded for a new album. The tracks included on Unleashed were songs that Dannii loved but that we also had permission from the writers and producers to release. Sadly we were unable to obtain permission from some producers. Korpi & Blackcell being a prime example. Dannii would have loved to have included 'Healing On The Dancefloor', 'Karma Is A Bitch', 'Weak' and 'Fear Of Flying' - but we were, in a nutshell, not given permission. You'll notice the mixes of 'All I Wanna Do', 'Everything I Wanted', 'Don't Wanna Lose This Feeling', 'Who Do You Love Now?', 'Hide & Seek', 'Come And Get It' and 'It Won't Work Out' were previously unreleased or rare alternative mixes. Probably best not to over-think 'Unleashed' too much. It was released as a thank you to her loyal fanbase for their support as she was not going to be recording a new album during The X Factor. To pick up on a comment in one of your previous emails, the album was not released as a 'cash-in'. Given Dannii's increased profile after joining The X Factor, Warner Music wanted to re-promote Dannii's back catalogue. We did stop 'The Platinum Collection' being released as Warner 'forgot' Dannii owned the unreleased material and they also were including tracks that were unfinished. We feel we put together a better collection of music with 'Unleashed' and it's nice to hear you enjoy the album. Best wishes, N. Hope this clarifies more on her music, she may try release one final thing though in her early 40s, I think she has missed some opportunities, as fans at least we have at least 4 modern sounding albums that we can listen to, i don't get bored of her songs as they are slightly different to her sister and makes good background music. B grade pop at it's best. I own - Girl (Remastered) - Neon Nights (Remastered) - Unleashed - Club Disco (Physical) - THis is it Very Best of (I bought this as it has her older singles like baby love & Don't wanna lose this paid RNB sounding tracks) do not like the older albums to purchase them. Would be awesome to hear what other people own and also how they view Club Disco & Unleashed and which they prefer
October 20, 201410 yr ALSO THIS IS WHAT DANNII SAID BEFORE SHE RELEASED CLUB DISCO "21/06/05 Dannii speaks about her new material: "My new album will be really dance-y and lush. I can't wait for it to be released. It will bring other elements to my sound, but keeping in the groove that I found with Neon Nights. I try to walk the thin line between pop and dance and have spent a whole year writing, and have tried to come up with something fresh. I have worked with some of the same producers as Neon Nights, and some new ones. This album will not be the retro 80's electro sound of Neon Nights, as I feel I have done this already. My main aim is heavy-fat-bass-lines, I love that thumping feeling. Hopefully I have topped Neon Nights, which was made with lots of love." It is obvious, the work she did with London Records Post Neon Nights (unleashed) still sounded like Dannii but was a little more modern & experimental ... The Neon nights documentary on the Video COllection DVD cutt out one section which is still on youtube where she discusses what would have been the 2nd London Records album (neon nights follow up) though due to the record label issues etc she signed with AAW. AAW sounds like a cheaper label & it is very clear the quality of music dropped with Touch me Like that, etc... Perfection / Sunrise / Round the world / gone / i'm sorry & some tracks on club disco are cool but I still prefer the quality and sound of Unleashed / Neon Nights (Warner) Edited October 20, 201410 yr by casualfan
October 22, 201410 yr At the end of the interview, she sings "All I wanna Do" Live, sorry guys but a much nicer voice than Kylie. Not so whiney and also strong. Still similar but she def has the voice ...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zu_duYbX4KA & here a diff take on "All I Wanna Do" ...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZlkfobFL95k her voice is also strong, as u can tell she is out of practice as she rarely performs as much as Kylie. Her voice cracks once or twice. She should open for Kylie and release a new album. As for the Girl album, people rave on about it, I bought the deluxe remastered edition, the remixes are all dated. The only songs I like are "All I Wanna Do" & "Everything I Wanted" and mind you, the remixes on Unleashed make them sound modern. Going to sell this Rare album it's actually on ebay right now.
October 22, 201410 yr Author Well the Girl remixes are all from the 90's :P so they would sound dated compared to remixes done only a few years ago. Girl is her best album IMO. So good.
October 22, 201410 yr I listened to Girl last night for the first time in ages, there are five or six great tracks on there. It's Amazing and Am I Dreaming are heavenly.
October 25, 201410 yr Read this entire overview of Dannii's music career: ....... ..............http://theqhblend.wordpress.com/2013/02/26/mighty-fine-dannii-minogues-neon-nights-turns-10/ A great read & look back on Neon Nights (her most successful era) I like how the writer explains her work after Neon Nights... How she started a follow up (which is now Unleashed) and that the sound was a little poopier / R&B which can be herd on Unleashed. Based on what I've read, Neon Nights, although an intriguing and different album at the time, it was a small success. For such a big record label and the success of the singles the entire album has sold no more than a couple of hundred thousands all up. Luckily we got to have the Re-release which included everything from the vault / that era for fans. & it also discusses some of the decisions with AATW and how Club Disco finally appeared strangely after the Greatest Hits package. Dannii was on the money trying to follow up with another album immediately after Neon Nights rather than releasing another single (which the single version is now on Unleashed, "it won't work out single mix) though I don't think it would have done well hence why the label put her in a difficult position. AATW obviously stalled her career with a single each year rather than a follow up album After reading about her interesting music career, at least all that she has released, all that is in the vaults is all out should she want to start fresh in the future All the fans saying I wish there was more mileage with Neon Nights or other albums to follow, well we kind of got them... Her popularity might be decreasing but we ended up with 2 aborted 5th albums Unleashed & Club Disco which are a great sum up together of her overall recent work She mentioned in an interview that she raided the Warner vaults with Unleashed and now we have the best remixes that update the sounds on Neon Nights / Girl singles and the follow up work on the next album. 14 tracks in total if you include Viva La mour and the 4 Korpi songs that leaked Any thoughts / opinions on the above and the article?
October 25, 201410 yr One other thing, as you can see I have done a lot of investigating with her interesting releases lol I've included the info above from Nathan, though I asked him at one stage, even though Unleashed is my favorite of hers due to its more modern and laid back pop / rnb sound, I mentioned to Nathan, the follow up tracks to Neon Nights for the proposed next album (now Unleashed) flow nicely, though there are no tracks that standout to be singles should this have been released, & Nathan mentioned that work on an album consists of 50-60 tracks which tracks are selected from. As for the 2nd London Records album he mentions they may not have particularly made it onto the album though Dannii selected them for Unleashed. Based on what I have read, it sounded like the album was halfway done & not completed so it is smart of Dannii / Nathan to release most of the tracks she worked on with fresh remixes of her best singles from Warner (Girl / NN) as if they were not on there, there are no standout singles on Unleashed had it been released back then or on their own. As you can tell I was never a fan & then took a chance on Club Disco & Unleashed based on a friend's recommendation & i wanted these 2 as she was on x factor and her most recent output and they had all her singles basically on both releases... I automatically preferred the production and sound of her Warner work on Unleashed. Although club disco is not bad as a whole... I then bought the 2 re-releases of NN & Girl. Girl is ok.. though I still don't get why ppl rave on about it, maybe because i was too young and it has a nice retro sound nowadays, i don't mind everybody changes, ALL i wanna do, everything i wanted, am i dreaming etc. it does take you elsewhere this album though as i've mentioned, I prefer the radio / single mixes of the singles off girl & Neon Nights on UNleashed. Sounds more fresh and updated. Would love to hear from all Dannii fans on her last few releases and their opinions Does this clarify? ok, no more essays from me.
October 28, 201410 yr Dannii's covered That's How You Know from Enchanted for a random Australian Disney compilation out on Nov 14th: http://www.sanity.com.au/products/2284922/We_Love_Disney http://24.media.tumblr.com/99a09e884f53ad661b6703ea87bd0d15/tumblr_mpu6fdeuNr1sv7n98o1_400.gif
