87 Afrojack feat. Eva Simons 'Take Over Control' (54)

DOWN 19 {68-87}

i want you to take over control -> Riser (19)

Before Afrojack turned to shit, he was capable of songs like this. Featuring his signature dirty-Dutch drop, but also with the lovely vocals of Simons which really improve the song. I love how the verses are progressive house then it goes electro house in the drop, it's very well produced. Oh yeah and did I mention how Afrojack doesn't make songs as good as this anymore. So so sad :(

86 Supermen Lovers feat. Mani Hoffman 'Starlight' (56)

NEW ENTRY

starlight, can you give me the fame -> Jason (15)

Well I do like a funky house tune, and the early 00s did produce their funky house a lot. It's nice enough but there was better (such as Room 5 which we can expect later… oh wait we can't.)

85 Route 94 feat. Jess Glynne 'My Love' (56)

NEW ENTRY

my love, and my touch -> Ethan (19)

This is in my top 5 songs of the year so far, it's deep house at its best. And I'm sure when people look back on this trend this will be known for being one of the best. The piano chords really make this, but I also love the vocals and the way the 'drop' progresses.

84 Basement Jaxx 'Red Alert' (57)

NEW ENTRY

and the music keeps on playing on + on -> Harve, Jade (18)

Basement Jaxx did some good songs. And this is one of them. Always love a wailing siren in a song (also see Ciara 'Goodies') and we don't get it often.

83 Britney Spears 'Work B**ch' (56)

NEW ENTRY

you betta work bitch -> AdamAloud, Ryan (14)

With powerful motivating lyrics and a nice house beat reminiscent of Swedish House Mafia (well, Ingrosso was one of the producers), (plus the fact that it's by Britney), it's no surprise that it got major Buzzjack loving. I got into this for a while too but I don't really love it. The lyrics remain great though in a funny/iconic way.

82 Alice Deejay 'Back In My Life' (59)

NEW ENTRY

want you back in my life -> gooddelta (19)

So Alice Deejay weren't a one hit wonder. Yeah that surprised me too until I googled them a few years ago. Anyway this is quite a nice trance song, but it's very inferior to Better Off Alone.

Aww Starlight has been robbed :smoke:
"My Love" is one of the best No.1s this year. Glynne's vocals are simply great here. I'm looking forward to the new material of Route 94.
Lovely to see somebody to love reaching the top 100. Would have preferred it to be a bit higher though :(

To be honest he screams one-hit wonder to me. I know he had the MK remix but otherwise... although I'd like to be proved wrong!

Route 94 already has a new song

obviously, it won't be a hit single though. I'm sure he could get another hit if he tried but I don't think that is his aim. It's not like he made My Love whilst thinking 'this is gonna be a massive UK #1 hit'

81 Avicii feat. Salem Al Fakir 'Silhouettes' (59)

NEW ENTRY

we will never look back from the faded silhouettes -> Riser (16)

Avicii is back in the countdown, and this time it is with non-album single and follow up to Levels, Silhouettes. It's really good, and even though he's topped this many times it's still worth a listen once in a while.

80 Sash! feat. Peter Faulhammer & Adrian Rodriguez 'Adelante' (59)

NEW ENTRY

adelante -> gavindeejay (20)

Well this is more remembered on BuzzJack than I thought it would be. Quite a nice trance tune which passed me by until I was researching #2 hits of the 00s.

79 Shanks & Bigfoot feat. Sharon Woolf 'Sweet Like Chocolate' (59)

NEW ENTRY

you're sweet like chocolate -> Jade (13)

Not a big fan of this but it's quite nice. 2-step garage is one of my least favourite dance genres anyhow so it'd have to be really good to impress me. The vocals fall flat for me too and overall makes for a relatively boring song. Also doesn't help that I haven't listened to it a lot, it sounds like something that would sound better with time, like La La La which has a similar beat, except La La La actually has very good vocals.

78 Le Youth feat. Cassie 'C O O L' (60)

NEW ENTRY

as long as we're cool -> jsliv (17)

And bringing the quality back right up is Le Youth. Really like this as it sounds fresh and it's a nice mix of indie-dance and house. Plus the Cassie sample works so well with her voice sounding deeper than on the original.

Silhouettes and C O O L are bloody amazing and should be much higher. C O O L is probably my favourite 2013 track..

I've just realised, was Sonique nominated. I can't find her/their song in the semis.

77 Adamski feat. Seal 'Killer' (60)

NEW ENTRY

it's the loneliness that's the killer -> Insomnio (15)

The riff in this song is brilliant and is almost fully responsible for my love of this song. The vocalist is pretty good too.

76 Phats & Small feat. Toney Lee 'Turn Around' (62)

NEW ENTRY

got to turn around -> Jason (20)

Not very familiar with this but I do like it, well it is house so of course I do. It's not close to beating the quality of many other songs from this era anyway but it's a nice listen.

Yes, the riff of 'Killer' is immortal. :wub: Seal's vocals suits the song perfectly too.

Hey, what's wrong with you Buzzjack? I can't believe the masterpiece of a song called 'Turn Around' just missed out on top 75. :(

75 Sigma feat. Trevor Francis 'Nobody To Love' (63)

NEW ENTRY

loving with nobody to love -> Ultraviolence, Ryan (12)

It's a pretty good reworking of Bound 2. Always nice to have a drum n' bass song be a hit but I do feel like the vocals could have been better. Which is why I prefer Rudimental's hits Feel the Love and Waiting All Night because they're very similar to this but the vocals are better. At least Sigma have got Paloma Faith for their next single anyway.

74 Felix 'Don't You Want Me' (64)

NEW ENTRY

don't you want me -> AH Gold (20)

This is a nice tune. I know it's a dance music sin to prefer Guetta's version of this but I do. The riff is great anyway in both versions.

73 The Prodigy 'Warrior's Dance' (64)

UP 19 {92-73}

come with me to the dancefloor -> Ultraviolence, Iz (16)

And finally we get to our first climber in the countdown. This is yet another great effort from The Prodigy who have been missing from the UK Top 40 since this single. Apparently they're releasing a new album this year though yaaay.

72 William Orbit 'Barber's Adagio For Strings (Ferry Corsten Remix)' (64)

DOWN 37 {35-72}

adagio for strings -> Chez Wombat (19)

Buzzjack for the 2nd year in a row snubs the better version of this song from Tiesto for the original Orbit/Corsten version (well, not the actual original but you get the idea). That's not to diss this version of course which is an great trance instrumental, especially the inclusion of the 'strings' which adds to the general 90s trance formula that Corsten does so well. I find the Tiesto cover more exciting though, but let's not turn this into a review of that.

The Prodigy had a #38 hit with 'Take Me To The Hospital' after 'Warrior's Dance' :magic:

71 Example 'Changed the Way You Kiss Me' (66)

NEW ENTRY

cause you changed the way you kiss me -> JackJones (20)

The production in this is excellent, it's the type of song that really suits Example's voice, and he should go back to it instead of making sub-par efforts like All the Wrong Places, Kids Again and Say Nothing. He was kinda on the right track with One More Day even though that was blatantly cashing in on the 90s house trend. Everyone get ready for the drop :dance: And here it comes!!

70 Klingande 'Jubel' (67)

NEW ENTRY

save me -> jsliv, Ryan (19)

Well this is a brilliant song. With its saxophone use, it makes for a more classy and very fresh sounding house hit.
