10 Taylor Swift - Speak Now

Kicking off the top 10 is another country album, and the second and final entry from Taylor Swift. This album features songs inspired by many notable people from Taylor's life, of course we all know most of them are taken from her parade of ex-boyfriends :P Back To December is an apology Taylor Lautner, Last Kiss is about Joe Jonas, Dear John is an open letter in song form to John Mayer... But it's this love and heartbreak that makes the album so great, even though they're so personal, so many of the songs are so relatable...

09 Katy Perry - Teenage Dream

Katy's only entry in this countdown is a perfect pop album, widely regarded by most as her very best. It was also a complete smash of an era both sides of the Atlantic, giving Katy a record for the most top 5 hits from one album in the US, and features her million selling self confidence anthem Firework. A perfect example of all killer no filler, even Peacock (labelled as hugely cringey by some) is ironically amazing.

08 The Saturdays - On Your Radar

The second and final entry from the girls is also the most recent album in this top 10, beating one of the top 5 by a few months! All of their studio albums have been great thus far but On Your Radar saw the girls really up their game, with a hugely versatile range of tracks that doesn't veer even close to the edges of messy or disjointed. From the stunning ballad Last Call to the club banger All Fired Up to the perfect pop moment White Lies, pretty much every track is just brilliant.

07 Lady Gaga - Born This Way

Parter the monster (:boom:) first era, Lady. Gaga proclaimed that this would be the "best album of the century" just prior to release, and she was only 6 albums away from being right! Even the tracks many people seem to dislike (You & I, Heavy Metal Lover and Government Hooker) are incredible, but Marry The Night, Scheiße and the polarising single Judas are the absolute highs. The album is so quintessentially Gaga it's surprising it didn't sell better than it did overall.

06 Carrie Underwood - Some Hearts

Another burst of country, but this is not the last we'll hear from the genre... This was Carrie's debut album following her American Idol win in 2005 and, despite being released that same year, has gone on to sell 7 million in the US. It's home to Carrie's finest moment and biggest hit, the essential country anthem for any angry bitch Before He Cheats, as well as one of her most epic album tracks Starts With Goodbye. Oh and a flawless singles run *.*

All great albums

Speak now is also one of my favourite albums ever. Every song on that album is amazing (mine, mean, better than revenge and haunted being my absolute favourites)

A huge YES for 'Teenage Dream' and 'Born This Way' Although for the former, an album that smells like candyfloss was always going to be a winner ;)
is an open letter in song form

Reductive. Alanis did that shit back in 98' :smoke:

05 Kelly Clarkson - My December

The pop/rock queen finally crops up again, this time with her raw and personal third album My December. The often slated lead single Never Again is personally one of my absolute favourite Kelly singles and was closer to classic Kelly than most of the album. It pains me that this album bombed in comparison to Breakaway, so many of the tracks just leak raw emotion and power. On the US only single Sober, every note exudes emotion, but the real magic is found on Irvine. If ever a song could make me cry, it would be this, you can just hear every bit of pain Kelly felt when she wrote this song whilst feeling at her lowest. If my songs countdown included album tracks, that song would honestly contend for #1.

04 Lady Gaga - The Fame/The Fame Monster

Yet again in the top 10! Firstly released in 2008, Lady Gaga made waves in the UK in 2009 with the #1 singles Just Dance and Pokerface, and later in the yesr the album was expanded to include the monster EP, which is 8 tracks of pure brilliance. That expansion gave her two more #1s (her career pinnacle Bad Romance and a Beyoncé collab, Telephone) as well as giving us the certified 14/10 moment that is Dance In The Dark.

03 Demi Lovato - Unbroken

Queen Demi's second and final entry comes very close to the crown! Released in 2011, this was Demi's third album and saw a shift towards the poppier sound as opposed to the pop/rock sound of her first two albums. Led by the stunning ballad Skyscraper, this album has possibly Demi's most personal track to date, For The Love Of A Daughter, which is about her alcoholic father and their estrangement. As well as the personal ballads, this album has some huge pop moments, particularly the title track and the string laden single Give Your Heart A Break. As great as she was before this, Demi seriously stepped up her game as a popstar here.

-------

So that just leave us with the flawless top 2, which will be revealed shortly :o

Absolute YES at the Fame/Fame Monster, definitely one of my favourite album(s) of all time! The Fame got me interested and The Fame Monster had me cemented as a Gaga fan. I hope one day she can craft something quite as brilliant as that again.

02 Carrie Underwood - Carnival Ride

Just missing out on the top spot is Carrie's second album to feature in my top 10, and it's now that I really realise the same few artists are filling it, oops. Anyway, this was Carrie's second studio album, following on from her 7x platinum debut Some Hearts, selling over 3 million itself. The album yielded an impressive 4 country #1s as well as 5 top 40 pop hits (all of the singles from this era!), including Last Name and Just A Dream. The album is also home to some of Carrie's very best album tracks, such as Flat On The Floor and I Know You Won't. Even with a flawless run of album like Carrie's, this is her best body of work - all killer, no filler.

So that means the #1 album is......

01 Kelly Clarkson - Breakaway

And here we have our #1, probably not a surprise to some! The absolute pinnacle of 00s pop-rock, Kelly Clarkson really broke out (:boom:) internationally with this album. Since U Been Gone remains one of her biggest hits, and Behind These Hazel Eyes and Because Of You were both transatlantic top 10 hits. I still remember the day I got this, it wasn't until 2007 despite me loving the singles since their UK releases 2005/6 but it's really stayed with me since and has become an integral part of me growing up, I can relate to so many of the songs. Nothing on this album is below an 8/10, it's just wall to wall absolute brilliance and I could listen to it all day! There's a reason this album sold 1.5 million copies in the UK and over 15 million worldwide, it's simply pop-rock perfection.

Our tastes correlate way more than we care to admit :smoke:

---

I'll be kicking off the singles countdown soon, a few stats beforehand...

- One artist has more entries than any other, a whopping 10 entries in the top 200 :o Loonage.

- The oldest song dates way back to November 1968!

- The newest song isn't even 2 years old - it was released in October 2012 (2013 songs are not included here).

- There are a staggering 47 UK #1s in the countdown, becsuse I am a mainstream whore. Although 33 of the songs that feature didn't even dent the UK top 40.

- English isn't the only language in this countdown, there are songs in Japanese, French and Korean.

Yay excited to see this unfold, and glad to see that this dates back to 1968! I also have a lot of UK number 1's in mine too, oops :kink:
Well that albums list turned out wonderfully! Great to see Carnival Ride as Carrie's highest and Speak Now as Taylor's highest. Amazing album tracks on Carnival Ride as you say! Flat On The Floor and I Know You Won't YES. I'd also add Twisted and Wheel Of The World :heart-old: Breakaway was never in question, leading a fantastic top ten though I haven't heard much from Unbroken or On Your Radar. Well done! The singles will be too I just know...assuming there's a lot of songs from those 40 albums :heehee:

200 Gwen Stefani - Hollaback Girl

199 Donna Summer - I Feel Love

198 Eminem ft. Dido - Stan

197 Paramore - Ignorance

196 Jessica Mauboy ft. Jay Sean - What Happened To Us

195 The Saturdays - Issues

194 Alesha Dixon - The Boy Does Nothing

193 TLC - Waterfalls

192 Fergie ft. Ludacris - Glamorous

191 Céline Dion - It's All Coming Back To Me

Kicking off my singles countdown is a quite urban/R&B set of 10, including Gwen Stefani's Hollaback Girl, to which I owe the fact I can spell bananas, and the TLC classic Waterfalls, which features a flawless rap from the late great Lisa Maffia. The one track here that won't be that known on here is What Happened To Us, which one of Jessica's best tracks, very akin to a Jordin Sparks ballad. It's not all R&B/hip-hop though, as Donna Summer's 1977 disco classic I Feel Love, to which a lot of dance music today owes a lot as it's one of the very first electronic dance songs, is at #199 and Céline Dion's epic ballad It's All Coming Back To Me is at #191. There is even some rock here from one of Paramore's best songs, but that won't be a genre that's too common here... :P
