October 21, 201410 yr Please don't. As much as you'd like it to be true, Gaga has not once cited Gwen as an inspiration, not even once. Yes a naturally gifted performer and entertainer, but this song and video does not manifest that in anyway whatsoever 100% Gwen is a pastiche rip off with quite dubious songs, such as Sweet Pukescape, Cool and other boring shit which does NOT inspire the GaGa!
October 21, 201410 yr What You Waiting For certainly paved the way for lots of pop we know and love, there was nothing like it at the time as far I can think of but there's been lots like it since. But again can we please not drag this thread down with whether or not she influenced Gaga?! Just because you don't like her doesn't mean she's a rip off, and it certainly doesn't mean she's had no impact (to use your favourite word), so there's really no need to act like it.
October 21, 201410 yr Shut the hell uppp about Gaga, no one gives a shit. ANYWAY, can't get over how laughably bad the video is! Oh well, the song is still a banger.

Yes a naturally gifted performer and entertainer, but this song and video does not manifest that in anyway whatsoever I wouldn't care if it was true or not, because Gwen was around long before Gaga and it already looks like she'll be relevant long after, but that's beside the point. It's very obvious that Gwen's outlandish fashion and the way it's been incorporated into her pop persona, in addition to the countless iconic music videos she's been a part of, have had a strong influence on Gaga's visual style. Even the way Gwen uses her range and her eccentric vocal inflections are mirrored in Gaga's music. I'm not dragging Gaga, calling her a wannabe or anything like that, so there's no need to come at me with your third grader-quality shade angling for a game of my fave is better than yours. I love Gaga to death when she's on form just as I love Gwen. If you could see things a little more objectively you wouldn't take unnecessary offence at the idea that one female artist inspired another. Regardless of whom Gaga has and hasn't cited (and let's be quite honest, she's not exactly renowned for truthfully citing her "inspirations" every time) there simply is not any doubt that Gaga's performance style owes a lot to Gwen. That's all. Edited October 21, 201410 yr by jark

That's all. Seeing things a bit more objectively seems to be the flaw of your argument tbh. You can't just go and declare that Gwen was Gaga's greatest inspiration when the only source you have for that is your own bias opinion? The only thing Gwen and Gaga have in common is well, they have their own unique style sonically and visually - of which are NOTHING alike, nevermind mirrored in Gaga's output. And on topic, that is my entire point - this song and that video does not do your opinion of Gwen's style being mirrored in Gaga's music any favours, nor does it do Gwen any favours in depicting her once eccentric style and influential music. There is also little chance that this will make her as relevant as Gaga now is, Gwen won't have a sell-out tour after her long solo hiatus or a #1 album or miraculously after 7 years just reappear at #1 on the Pop Index off the back of a single as throwaway and faceless as this. One can sing a previous Gwen hit by just looking at its title, while this song you can barely remember how it goes other than its cliche chorus.
October 21, 201410 yr For goodness sake, since when did this thread have anything to do with Lady Gaga? Poor, brave Gwen.

You Gwen fans are being completely blind to pop reality, which is Gwen is coming back from a MAMMOTH flop and a 7 year solo break, leading her deep ino the realm of irrelevance. Furthermore, there is nothing similar in GWen's, quite frankly, monotonous and flat singing voice compared to GaGa's belting voice, which is actually *technically* just as good as Adele's if you look at their supposed ranges. Gwen ha only really exhibited strange costumes in What You Waiting For?, which is her opus, and only came through to that based on Alice in Wonderland, hardly groundbeaking or inventive like GaGa's was eh! And she retreated from such a style as she was not trendsetter enough to pull off such dance bangers, and remember the strangeness was based on ALice in Wonderland. There is nothing at all similar between them. GaGa is more Madonna, Gwen Cindy Lawper.
October 21, 201410 yr For goodness sake, since when did this thread have anything to do with Lady Gaga? Poor, brave Gwen. SILENCE!! This is what happens when a popstar's relevance fades - even discussions about them get shaded out by the more fertile popforest overgrowth, reaching down even into the shadows with their buttress roots of fandom and relevance combined.
October 21, 201410 yr No Doubt sold out a 57 date arena tour in 2009 without even having had any new material in support of it at that point. Gwen's last solo tour was also a smash. Her new single is at 6 on iTunes with one day of airplay and zero performances. Claiming she does not have the fanbase to tour successfully is utterly absurd. It's strange that you seem to view things in terms of quantity over quality but I suppose that's your prerogative. If in some alternate world Gwen did not have the star power to sell out even one arena date, the show she put on would still be f***ing awesome. So just what is your point?! Anyway let's wrap this up because every new post I read makes me weep a little more for stan culture. But just to throw it out there, I do believe this album will sell more copies and spawn more hit singles than Artpop. Be interested to see which method of shade you switch to then. October 21, 201410 yr 2009 is nearly SIX YEARS AGO!! That is not relevance at all. And 6 on itunes for someone who is supposed to be a large popstar? Well, was, is not a stellar indication. She came back with No DOubt as she feared she was no longer relevant then found them to be no longer relevant and rushed out this old-sounding radio-trend-chasing-backwards to 2006 BEPs rip-off song.
October 21, 201410 yr I'm deleting any further nonsensical personal insults from Michael which are only posted with the hope to antagonise from now. Seriously there is no need as I've already said two or three times!
October 21, 201410 yr And Jark's WASN'T posted for the same end?? Delete mine and you have to with his too!
October 21, 201410 yr I did, if you gave me a chance! Anything else of that ilk will be deleted as we don't need the thread derailed by stan wars like this. To repeat myself, discussion of whether or not Gwen is influential to certain people etc. is fine as long as its vaguely intelligent and doesn't only serve to bait others or personally insult them.
October 21, 201410 yr The most ridiculous part of all of this is that I can't buy this song until 2015. I always used to chuckle when this happened to UK fans because the Irish release dates are usually not long after the US ones, but now I'm not laughing.
October 21, 201410 yr I'm deleting any further nonsensical personal insults from Michael which are only posted with the hope to antagonise from now. Seriously there is no need as I've already said two or three times! Can we just delete all Michael posts in here? It's not as if any of them are being done with the purpose of anything other than trying to antagonise people and get a reaction. Jark and Kath are at the least having a sensible conversation with actual points rather than slogans chained together with nonsensical ratchet culture phrases.
October 21, 201410 yr Kath makes her own points perfectly well and doesn't need them "re-inforced" in the way you re-inforce them, if you stop baiting and antagonising people with your posts they won't be criticised or deleted.
October 21, 201410 yr I was actually unnecessarily shady toward Kath in the last post there. Apols! It's only pop music. (If you can say "only" pop music when it comes to the legendary Ms G. Stefani, or indeed Ms. Stefani G.)
October 22, 201410 yr Instantly made me think of Nelly F. I love it. It wont last two months, though. There is a lot Te Amo in it. I don't know why but I keep comparing it to Froot, in my head and it seems to come up a lot stronger than that. And it's yet another song with a stronger verse than chorus.
