Too many Jessie J haters here! :o

Invalid argument: there are never too many Jessie J haters.

Very average and generic this chart breaker
'Sunlight' kind of reminds me of 'Sonnentanz (Sun Don't Shine)' (might just be the title). Hope it can go top 10 next week, looks likely so far.
I don't think anybody really expected an album of jazz covers with an 88 year old crooner to set the charts alight. I'm relatively certain that a Tony Bennett & Katy Perry or Beyonce covers album would have the same, if not lesser, impact.

Beyonce would sells the shit out of any album let's be real. This would be top 3 at least with Beyonce attached to it.

erm.

WHAT DID I TELL YOU PEOPLE ABOUT SHADING MY FECKING SUNLIGHTTTT

Album chart top 5 post updated as alt-J pick up not one but two new top 100 hits - including 'Every Other Freckle' just edging out 'Hunger Of The Pine' from last week to give them another new highest peaking single! *.*
How far Lady Gaga has fallen is shocking really. This is the woman who a few years ago got a remix album to #3, now her fans seem happy she scrape top 10.

Get a grip. It's a jazz covers album with Tony Bennett who isn't huge in the UK, it was never going to even come close with Gaga's previous successes. And how has she fallen if she's still #1 this year on Guiness World Records pop index and has a sell-out WW tour (artRAVE).

If she had released this 4 years ago, it could have been a spoken word album and still gone top 3 at least. Her last studio album didn't go platinum and this going in at 10, surely it isn't hard to see she has fallen far from grace as of late in the UK.

Yes it's obvious that her career is in decline commercially at the moment - it's not breaking news - but personally as a fan I'm not bothered about it. She still has a clear top ten streak under her belt and I'm pretty sure her next proper studio album will go top 3 but if it doesn't I don't mind if it's as good as glorious ARTPOP

I really don't think even Beyonce could shift a jazz covers album with an old man in vast quantities. I guess we're unlikely to ever know (well, at least until her Jay-Z collab album comes out in 40 years).

Sorry sour plum but any artist, not just Gaga, will struggle to follow up an era like The Fame which sold 2.8 million. You can't honestly say with a straight face you expected Gaga to?

You can shade ARTPOP all you like but how many albums did go platinum last year? HARDLY much. Album sales as a whole, not just hers, have massively declined since her massive debut era.

It's hardly anything shocking and it doesn't make her any less of the power "she once was", especially when your basing your opinion on a side project jazz covers album, she's still the highest earning pop artist around at the moment and she's still selling out arenas all over the world and snatching those top 10s.

Oh dear god nooooo :P

I love Beyoncé and like Jay Z to some extent but somehow can't stand them as a unit. The Beyoncé singles featuring Jay Z are more than enough

By the way, Beyoncé's latest wasn't exactly a million seller either but I can see her fitting a bit better to those kind of duet albums in later stage of her career.

Yes! It's nice that we aren't phased by sales but are just in awe of the music!

Exactly! The fact she can excel in multiple genres as a mainstream pop-star is extraordinary! and the fact her Jazz Duet album can get a Top 10 placing in a country she's 'decling' in is a pretty good achievement too! The fact it makes her happy is worth a million number ones imo

I don't get the Jessie J hate.. She has so many great singles and Bang Bang is huge worldwide.

It's all about opinions and perception though but in my opinion she hasn't had a single good song in terms of lyrics or musical composition. The fact that "Bang Bang" is huge doesn't give it it big artist merit. A song is big because it's accessible, easy to remember and often non offensive or unchallenging, which is what most non-music obsessives crave. Adaptability is a song can be adaptable for radio airplay or used in a commercial. Although in recent times, music videos have played a controversial part in making a song more interesting because it can be gossiped about (Miley Cyrus).

Also some of the bigger artists produce a song very quickly without a consideration to it's composition, this is because they are under intense pressure to be in the spotlight. That is the difference between Rihanna (who keeps releasing albums rapidly) and Portishead (who still only have 3 albums despite being around for over 15 years). It's a perfectionist/conceptual quality.

I also believe that if a song is big, it doesn't need me to jump on the bandwagon and therefore instead I give attention to a lesser known song that I can reward for it's time and effort.

Jessie J is very successful though and became big very quickly. She scores an A+ in that department.
