October 2, 201410 yr it's pure cheese  . Well yes, but it's still pretty much widely considered as a classic?
October 2, 201410 yr Author Well yes, but it's still pretty much widely considered as a classic? We'll have to agree to disagree. I can think of other Cher songs that are classics, but "Believe" is not one of them
October 2, 201410 yr We'll have to agree to disagree. I can think of other Cher songs that are classics, but "Believe" is not one of them  At least tell me what basis you have for that though, rather than it being "cheesy"?
October 2, 201410 yr Author At least tell me what basis you have for that though, rather than it being "cheesy"? It's like a mickey take of all those autotune records that were being released. I just remember thinking "what was she thinking" Then again, she wanted to be relevant again.
October 2, 201410 yr We'll have to agree to disagree. I can think of other Cher songs that are classics, but "Believe" is not one of them  Erm, I think you are way off the mark with popular opinion here Britster. Believe very much is considered a classic by the vast majority, so you will have to accept that you are a minority :D
October 2, 201410 yr Looking at those 5 weeks from 1999, only 2 songs are really considered as classics...BOMT and Believe, despite Angel Of Mine being #1 for so many weeks  Monica was huge on radio for a couple years -- I think Angel of Mine was her third consecutive #1. No one here will agree with me but the Hex Hector mix of Nobody's Supped to Be Here is a TOTAL classic... one of the best of the 90s.
October 2, 201410 yr I agree with britster re: 'Believe' ~ (okay objectively not really but it's a terrible song that SHOULD be confined to its time)
October 2, 201410 yr Believe is definitely considered a classic, I still hear it everywhere and most people love it, not even ironically. Sarah McLachlan's Angel is definitely a classic too imo. Angel Of Mine should be one (the Eternal version that is...)
October 2, 201410 yr 'believe' is the only really camp as christmas song i've seen that even lad boys love
October 2, 201410 yr Comparing the first song which creatively used the vocoder as an instrumental effect with 'standard autotune parody' is so off the mark it's unreal - it's not like the effect was to disguise a lack of vocal talent, we're talking about CHER here! Total classic, regardless of cheese status.
October 2, 201410 yr Of course Believe is a classic... since when does "song quality" come into it, especially when opinions on what is a good/bad song are so subjective? It was huge. Its still remembered 16 years later. A classic.
October 2, 201410 yr No one here will agree with me but the Hex Hector mix of Nobody's Supped to Be Here is a TOTAL classic... one of the best of the 90s. I love the song, but in Europe that one is definitely not a classic. Barely a hit anywhere.
October 3, 201410 yr Author BILLBOARD HOT 100 43 46 Katy Perry featuring Juicy J - Dark Horse 54 weeks on the Hot 100.
October 3, 201410 yr Looking at those 5 weeks from 1999, only 2 songs are really considered as classics...BOMT and Believe, despite Angel Of Mine being #1 for so many weeks  I would consider 'Angel' to be a classic as well. Have yall seen these? They have depressed me for years. 9gspElv1yvc
October 3, 201410 yr I would consider 'Angel' to be a classic as well. Well not everyone lives in US. I have doubts that in other half of our world, Angel is remembered as BOMT or Believe.
October 3, 201410 yr 'Angel' is definitely much more well-known in the UK than its peak would suggest, I'd say...
