This is a fabulous album, better than the debut IMO. I enjoyed the vast majority of the songs, although as nice as it was, the I Can't Make You Love Me cover is so pointless lol. And I'll just pretend the Xmas song isn't part of the album.

Oh dear, the single drop is embarrassing. I guess the X Factor had a massive effect.
I'm listening to album samplers on Youtube and it's such a downslide in terms of quality from their debut. SO disappointed!
Cause You Flopped It Alllllllllllllll  it is a bit of a shame for them though as they shifted over 14k :o

CAMERON!

I presume the album 14k, not the single?

Both this week did 14k funnily enough.

Album - 14,724

Single Total - 60,026

I'd love to know what the record label are expecting / hoping for.

Wow that's pretty poor!

They'll probably change labels again! B-)

Or get dropped completely. This is definitely the end of the road for them now.

I did always think this second album would never materialise, but I bet the label wish it hadn't now.

Union J do intrigue me though.

Can Sony make enough non-music sales money from them to make it worthwhile? Merch, appearances, even a small tour...

They do have some profile (3 top 10 singles, You Got It All remains #3 on the radio playlist chart with 5500 spins, XF/JBB/Key103 appearances etc)

and it is convenient for the likes of Capital FM etc. to have a cheap 'One Direction lite' band they can fill the boyband gap at events and the like.

Interested to watch what happens, if/when single 2 etc... or will lack of hard £££ just do them soon...

I've just listened to the album and whilst it's not something I'm going to rush out and buy, there are actually 3 or 4 great songs on it! As cheesy as it is, 'Yolo' is catchy as hell and would make for a great third single. 'Song For You And I' is also very nice.
They'd probably do 5% better if their music was on Spotify.

It's not on Spotify?! :o

Will Union J with the male Saturdays, acts with bigger album sales than The Saturdays have been dropped but the Saturdays strangely seem to hold on.
I don't get the comparison to The Saturdays. The Saturdays started off with a Platinum album which spawned 2 hits and one really big hit. 'Up' spent 19 weeks in the top 40, Union J could only dream of such success at this point.

Surely they will be dropped now? They have had a major TV appearance, encouraged bulk buying and whored themselves around 26 Morrisons signing copies alongside selling the physical CD single at 49p and album for £7.99.

Their single chart runs make for tragic chart reading:

Tonight: 9-74-Out

You Got It All: 2-34-72

Really disappointed as they are a decent boyband but can't see the lable willing to invest anymore £££

As Joe said, they're two completely different circumstances. The saturdays had a much more successful debut with a Platinum album and several hits under their belts. If you compare their success now, the saturdays are having less but they've got a LOT of endorsements which is bringing in money for the company instead so no they won't get dropped (Frankie just raked in 75k for them through SCD and publicity ). Union J don't have these oppurtunities at the moment so they're more inclined to be dropped (although I'm not saying they will be).

The album has been reduced to £3.59 on Amazon and £3.99 on iTunes in readiness for the gift card effect - Got to hand it to their Management for doing all they can to try and salvage something from this!

In fairness the 14k sales for the album was decent in opening week and would have got them Top 5 most weeks of the year and I'm pleased it didn't exit the Top 75 this week although I'm sure the album signings saved it from doing a 28-97 drop :kink:

I think part of the problem with Union J is that as a band, none of them are as recognisable as the sum of their parts. By that, I mean you'd be hard pressed to find anyone who could name them individually outside their diehard fanbase, small enough in itself.

Most people I'd imagine could name at least one of say, JLS or The Wanted when they were at their peak. Hell JLS made that conundrum even easier by colour coding themselves from the beginning (even if they stupidly dropped it for 'Evolution'. It gave them a bit of homogeny from album campaign to album campaign I always felt, particularly when they did the whole individual slipcases with each new release).

If they are seeking nothing else but a bit more recognition as a band then it probably wouldn't kill one or two of them to do the jungle or Strictly this year coming.

I'm not sure if they're unrecognisable as such, perhaps their names aren't exactly very well known but I'm sure people could at least be like "the one with the hair" for George, "the gay one" for Jaymi, "the one with the kid" for JJ, etc. I think the issue lies with both the material and the lack of radio support. The material is good IMO but they have no USP compared to other boybands. 1D, 5SOS and The Vamps all stand out with their material, Union J's songs really could be anyone, which is a shame. And with regards to radio support, they have Capital of course but that only gets them so far, look at other artists that have only had Capital support - Elyar Fox (a total of three top 40 weeks across two singles, one of which went top 5) and Lawson, for example. Neither of them have made any kind of lasting impact and just Capital support is rarely enough for an artist. Union J had a little bit of Radio 1 support at first but nothing major and I think that's what's lacking. Not something they can easily rectify either :(

(oops that's a bit tl;dr)
