358. Wait On Me - Rixton

Man that's poor, it's been on the Radio 1 A-list for 2 weeks already (and not out till the 16th apparently, what's with the huge Rixton push? ). It's a decent enough song, albeit a bit of a non-entity.

The Rixton song is a bit forgettable really, at least 'Me And My Broken Heart' was based on a well known and remembered song.
^^Indeed considering Clean Bandit is out that week and in the top 100 easily!

I think it's absolutely awful, and I quite liked the last one as well. But yeah, I think this is heading for a #24 smash.

As with many boyband singles, it'll most likely debut in the top 10, then crash out within a month.

Do Rixton actually have a fanbase though? I'm not sure I can see this song even making the top 10, complete hype void.
They must have some to have a number 1 to their name. I know it was a low-selling number 1 (comparatively) but I can't imagine the majority were casual buyers...
I suppose so, although it did get rather a lot of airplay IIRC and it does have the sort of mass-appealing MOR sound that picks up casual buyers. It's just I don't feel like Rixton fans are really a 'thing', unlike 1D fans, 5SOS fans, Vamps fans, even Union J fans. Maybe I'm just being ignorant to the stanbase though.

I do get what you mean, it's like their presence isn't quite there for a young boyband of their ilk and it's almost like hype sold their debut single, hype which is sorely lacking for the follow-up.

Rumours that Band Aid 30 is happening on various news websites today...X Factor probably want to pull the final forward a week to guarantee a No.1 then (although I do wonder if Band Aid 30 would be as big as Band Aid 20, there's only so many times you can keep releasing the same song with different artists I guess...)

Still a popular X Factor winner could still quite feasibly beat Band Aid. The 2004 version was selling 250k at its peak iirc.

In Physicals in 2004. In a download era with songs 70p and the years biggest hits selling around double what they were in 2004, this could be record breaking. Or it could flop miserably. Its a coin flip, it depends on the artists.

I really think the Band Aid 30 thing could well flop for the first time unless they change things a bit like make a NEW song?!

RE Rixton, the lead singer just sounds like Adam Levine on steroids

Band Aid 30 would surely be a decent seller simply because it being Band Aid 30 will get it lots of hype, far more than God Only Knows got anyway (that along with the OA/OS release was why it flopped).

Can't see it being as big as Band Aid 20 let alone the original Band Aid but it could get a big opening week if it is decently hyped.

I think if someone more current and likely to sell - basically one of Lauren, Ben or Fleur - wins X Factor then they'll probably clinch #1 as they'll appeal to more casual buyers probably. Whoever it is is likely to anyway, as I think all these charity cover singles will hinder each other. It's definitely going to be either Band Aid or X Factor anyway.

According to Dan Wootton, in today's 'The Sun', One Direction have already signed up to be on

the Band Aid 30 Single. He says that with them singing on it, it will be as huge as the previous

Band Aid Singles. Maybe even outselling them. (He thinks One Direction are bigger than they

really are, both in the UK & Globally).

Maybe he'd change his mind if he knew/remembered that One Direction were on God Only Knows, and that only made #20

Ain't people getting sick of the song though, as the track hardly gets top 20 when the track gets released over Xmas, people would think its the same track, unless a new track gets put forward. As I was out shopping yesterday the track was everywhere and it was doing my head in, whatever shop I popped in they were playing Band Aid, Wham! or Mariah Carey.

Simon Cowell might as well push the X Factor winners track into the new year.
