I'll be glad when they are over but I'm also glad they are causing some songs (although not 'Shake It Off' :() to lose the top 10 effect as this should hopefully allow 'Blank Space' to get into that top 10 easier!

It works in the same way as all instant grats now. Downloads of the song count, downloads of the album don't. It's impossible to tell from the feed what proportion of its 'sales' are which.

iTunes aren't reporting the sales of instant grats anymore, worldwide. They instigated it, the OCC has nothing to do with it.

The point of instant grat is to make people pre-order the album. Who cares if "Froot" is a top 30 or a top50 hit, it's not like she's aiming for the top spot, and in the end you will be all happy when the album gets a few extra thousands thanks to the instant grat strategy, and that's what matters for Marina.
